so then my gun is okay....good

also it seems that my gun is not shooting very accurately.  it does shoot...but it doesnt seem to be all too accurate.  I am shooting with a stiffi barrel.  its probrably b/c the paint im using is too small (the paintballs are .687-.689 and im using a .691 barrel)(told my mom to buy a specific brand...but apparently thats too complicated for her).  neways it doesnt seem to be too accurate could there be any other reason other than the barrel or paintballs.  the gun isnt chronoed its shooting at the same speed that it shoots when it comes out of the box.

also..the last time i shot it it seemed like a lot of co2 was coming out of the barrel..in gas form though..this is ok right?

Yeah, you're going to see a lot of CO2 'snow' or 'fog' in the colder months. It's just because the CO2 isn't as expanded as it could be. Nothing detrimental, but you'll get fewer shots per bottle.

Your accuracy issue is either stemming from a dirty/fouled barrel (my have oil, paint, dirt, etc in there) or the poor paint-to-barrel match. I'd suggest cleaning out the barrel and seeing if that helps.

so its not even the slightest bit possible that the inaccuracy is related to the gun itself?

You're gun will be fine. CO2 coming out of the gun is common in the colder months, as mentioned. Try using a larger bored paint, like RPS Big Ball. A good paint to barrel match is the key to accuracy.

I had no idea you were supposed to cock your gun befor putting the co2 on I don't think i've ever done it so you should be fine.

Wait, so you were suppose to cock the A5 before hooking up the air?

I never knew that.  Does it say that in its manuel or something?

Kickass, your moms buys you paint. I wouldnt get down on her. You should be thanking her for atleast showing an interest in your hobbies.

Next time, go with her and talk to her more about the sport, and why you like it and stuff like that. Eventually she'll remember, and I think you both might have alot of fun.

What is up with the whole cocking before you allow co2 into the gun? I have never heard, read, or seen anybody doing that.

I know it's not good but I think if I tried explaining it I wouldn't do a good job.

So you should probably PM Bruce A. Frank cause he could write you a page on how it's not good for the valve.

the only issue is that the rear bolt (or hammer) rests on the CVX valve, sometimes compressing it slightly, causing air to leak. it's not a huge deal, but a good practice to get into the habit of.

I just read the manual's for my 98 and A5 again. My Bad, both do say to cock it before attaching air supply to help prevent an accidental discharge. Nothing about causing any damage to the marker though. I don't see how having a gun that is already cocked and then gassed up being any safer. Unless some one was to screw in a tank that was almost empty, and the marker did that full auto thing when your tank gets low.

There are multiple reasons.
  1. Constant Flow of CO2 can make seals brittle
  2. Potential accidental discharge (if the valve is open from a hammer lying on it, it will shoot paint)
  3. Allows you to make sure that all components are working prior to firing
  4. etc.

Umm you need to cock your gun before you put CO2 in it... not your cock.

My first Model 98 would shoot a steady stream of CO2 out the barrel if I did not cock it first. Did it from brand new. I've seen other guns burp like it was out of gas when the tank was screwed onto an uncocked gun.

I've had that happen with my 68 carbine and 98 as well.

Never bothered to figure out why, just cocked the piece and we were fine.
