Why buy a reg to put on your HPA tank when you already have one on your marker?

Will it really do that much, lets say I have a PMR (gun I'm looking at).

Is it really needed and really worth like another $100?  What will this reg do that the one on the gun isn't doing?

Huh? the reg on an HPA tank is the one that takes the 3000 or 4500psi pressure inside the tank and brings it down to a "safe" level to use. If you don't have the output reg on the tank, you'd never be able to get the tank off of the marker until it was virtually empty for one thing, and secondly, it'd be farking dangerous to have that much pressure coming out.... period! So, the Tank reg drops the pressure to a usable level (usually around 800psi, sometimes as low as 400 psi) then it goes to your inline reg where it can be brought down more. Some tanks DO have adjustable regs on the tank that allow you to vary the output from 0-1000 psi. But the engineering of said on-tank regs makes the tanks with them far more expensive. Also, on-tank non-pre-set regs tend to be bulky and heavy. Here are some examples though:

http://www.pbreview.com/products/reviews/160/ - A.A. Armageddon
http://www.pbreview.com/products/reviews/630/ - C.F. Dynaflow
http://www.pbreview.com/products/reviews/4370/ - Empire Fuel Adjustable

P.S. a 4500psi blast of air to the valve of virtually any marker would probably make it blow up in your face btw.

Okay sweet, thanks tallen.

But why are there regs http://cgi.ebay.com/Paintball-Nitro-Duck-HPA-Adjustable-Reg-only-NIB_W0QQitemZ300083115538QQihZ020QQcategoryZ36287QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem - like this  that cost so much.  Aren't the ones that come on the HPA tanks good enough?

What would a Nitro duck or Crossfire Reg do for my HPA tank. Let's say if I already have bought a Crossfire 68/4500 tank wouldn't it come with a good Crossfire reg on it?

Or does crossfire and nitro duck etc. make better after marker regs for their tanks?  If so what makes them better than the ones on the tank already?  Are they worth $100 more?

Those regs you see sold seperately are for people with broken regs or want to change their regs from let's say PMI to crossfire. The regs sold seperately are the same that are on the tanks. Crossfire sells regs seperate but they are the same that are on their tanks.

Either way, like Tallen said, tank regs are needed to bring down the pressure to 850 psi or lower.

Well, the regs do cost that much (roughly) when you buy the tank, so the tank price includes the price of the bottle and the price of the reg. People replace them if they break irreparably or if they want something new. That one is adjustable, and some people want that feature. I know of zero new tanks that come with adjustable regs.

Yes it would, but see above point.

Crossfire makes one type of reg, but it can come in LP or HP output. If you want to switch, you have to send it to Crossfire and they will swap the regs out for you. Nitroduck makes quite a few different regs, preset and adjustable, so if the one you have (ie, an Xtream) you don't like, you can buy one like in the link.

I must have been out of my mind last year, the guy was going to sell me an AA Apocalypse tank, with an Egg for $70 because he needed the money, and the tank was out of hydro.

HOW STUPID!

And AA doesn't even make tanks anymore, they got snatched up by NPS who only makes HP and LP pre-set regs now

I've got an Armageddon. 88ci 4500psi, half-way through it's first post-inception hydro. I'd sell it for say..... $2,000 or trade straight up for a new ego and a pre-set 68/45

/Love my 'geddon
//even if it does make up half the total weight of my marker.
