HOW DO I MAKEZ A SILENCER?!?!?!?

But seriously, I do a lot of testing on my markers, and a lot of it is fairly late. I don't want to buy one of those "muffler" things either, as they are expensive. I was toying with the idea of getting some socks/washcloths, layering them up and doubling them up and then taping them to the end of the barrel. Any of you people got any ideas to get the sound as quiet as possible?

Legal note: I do NOT condone making functioning silencers, as this is not what the thread is about.

I'm confused, for several reasons.

Okay, I thought you of all people would be able to piece this together.

I test alot of markers + late at night + lots of bad noise = I need to silence markers for testing.

THNX!

Sound deadening material on the walls. As some of the noise is from the barrel. Alot is just from the gun cycling alone.

Take the barrel off, and tape socks/undies/shirts/etc. over the hole.

Other than that, it really depends on what you are testing and whether or not you HAVE to have a full cycle.

I haven't thought of that. Duh. Oh well, just trying to find the best way, figured I'd ask what y'all do.

So, uh, what are you testing?

I haven't got a battery for "it" yet, so I'm just tweaking with my Rainmaker and 'cocker.

Cant you tweak them both with a shop compressor? Alteast I thought you can do the timing with one.

Well, the 'cocker might be LP enough (haven't tried it), but there is no way in God's green earth the RM is gonna work on a shop compressor...

When I am testing (to keep the neighbors from complaining) I use the contraption below. It is made from a piece of foam pipe insulation. I make a donut piece out of the same foam and glue it to the end. The hole in the center of the donut is a little larger than the barrel.

If I am shooting paint I take care to align the barrel so paint doesn't break inside the "Quieter." I use it a lot when working on finger speed. I find the foam does not interfere with my radar X when checking velocity or rate of fire (walking speed).

I use a small frame work consisting of a straight 4' long stick with X style legs attached to hold the device above the table top.

If you are not shooting paint but need to operate with air, you can really quiet things down more by inserting another donut piece in the opposite end.

The foam pipe insulation I am using has a wall thickness of about 1 inch. I find that the noise is attenuated down to about 1/3 of that without the muffler. I discovered recently that if I stick the whole foam tube inside a piece of 6" plastic pipe the sound is cut even further...down to about half of what it is with just the foam alone.

For short air only firing inside the house just to test function after reassemby I stick the end of the barrel into a doubled over bed pillow  or thickly folded towel. Quiets it enough so the cats don't end up handing from the overhead light fixture.

Does it need a special battery or something?
