Hmmm...I'm a junior, and will be in DC next week...highly unlikely I'll be drinking there though, and I'm not even going to try to sneak some pot. Only there for three days anyway.

I stand by my statement. I went to both, back to back on a trip up the East coast five years ago, and I prefered the DC vendors for quality.

Granted, New York vendors have more personality and they're cheaper, and of course, if you're there, you should try them out, but out of the several I tried across Manhattan, the hot dogs just were not that good.

I love New York. That city feels alive, and of the very few places I've been to that I think I could live, it's one of them. (DC is not.) I happen to prefer the hot dogs in DC. I would love to be proven wrong, to come to New York some day and have the most incredible hot dog in the world from a street vendor.

You're going to the nation's capital and all you're concerned with buying firecrackers?

My advice, head north of DC, about 45 minutes up Route 15 until just south of Gettysburg Pa. you'll find a place called "Keystone Fireworks" Its a warehouse of all kinds of stuff that they won't even let you into if you're a Pa. state resident. They check ID's and stuff to make sure you don't live in the state of pennsylvania. They're so close to the Maryland border that they do a pretty good business there, and they've got all kinds of stuff. You'll even get a 'preferred pyro' card for future purchases. Great little place and not too expensive either.

Surprisingly, some of them are made of meat.

Anyway,  I suggest you rectally smuggle a few 6" salutes across the border.

To be frank, (yep, pun intended) the best hot dog's I've ever had were at Camden Yards for an Oriole game.

I've had dogs in NYC, DC and Baltimore, but the SK dogs at Camden were the greatest dogs anywhere, ever.

So, I'd say:

Camden Yards Dogs>NYC Street Vendor>DC Street Vendor>Poo>Gas station dogs.

Posted By: reifidom

For awhile we had some good gas station hot dogs at Quick Trip. They've gone downhill, but for awhile they were definitely above poo.

Maybe regional taste has something to do with it. All six people on our trip agreed about the hot dogs.

Ball park hot dogs are just awesome. The buns are perfectly hot and steamed and somehow they just taste better than everywhere else.

I hate the leathery skin that gas station hot dogs always have on them. And I'm sure that's the very least of what's wrong with them.

Here's a guy who knows that he's talking about.

Street vendor cheese steaks are fantastic especially in NYC. My father told me that the best Philly cheese steak he ever had.....was indeed in Philly, from a street vendor.

Hope your not talking about dirty water hotdogs. I only eat the grilled ones (when I can find them). But really, if you want a snack in NYC get a gyro, they are amazing.

If you are born in D.C you cannot be president because they are not part of the United States.

DC was named right after the famous Columbian prime minster Juan Lopez took a visit to the USA, his visit was shortly after France gave the USA the statue of Liberty.
You really need to get educated about other country's.

Andy, i'm sorry but you're quite wrong about a lot of those things. The District of Columbia isn't a state, it's a district. And it's half in Virginia and half in Maryland. I live in Northern Virginia, well Fredericksburg which is about 50 miles from DC and 50 miles from Richmond, directly in the middle. The best place in DC = 9:30 Club. I saw Flogging Molly there and I go to Warped Tour at Nissan Pavilion.

Yea DC isn't in any state.  It is between Virginia and Maryland, but the borders of the states go around DC, meaning it is seperate from states.  When you go down there you will see that their license plates say "taxation without representation", this is because they have no representation in congress, even though the Capitol building is in DC.  Go figure.

The District of Columbia has nothing to do with the country called Colombia(notice the "o" in place of "u").  Columbia is a recurring place name in North America, as Christopher Columbus is credited with discovering the Americas (he was NOT the first European visitor, however).
