The detective entered the room to find Harry and Grace laying beside each other on the floor, dead. Beside them was a small pool of water and some broken glass. Above them on the counter was a cat with its back arched. Without any further investigation the detective decided that the victims had died of suffocation. He was right, but how did he know? -------------  |

Well, apparently we're all supposed to already know these because they are supposed to be required material for all elementary school children....But yeah, like you said, most of them have way too many possibilities to ever really figure them out. Sonex's answer works too, as would others if you took the time to think about it.....I just find the answers entertaining....

It could be the decetives fish.
But these things always piss me off. They never give enough information and then the OP gets to lord over the others when you guess "wrong" when there are a million different reasons. Someone could have broken into the house and murdered the two humans. Doesn't say anywhere this didn't happen. They could have been living near a volcano and there could have been a Carbon monoxide gas cloud that seeped down and killed everyone in the house. It doesn't say the cat is still alive. It could have been reacting to the gas and died with an arched back. Both people could have been allergic to cats and the new neighbour just moved in and they were having an anaphillactic episode and Harry went to go get Grace some water and they both died from their throats closing. Harry could have been pissed off about Grace buying a cat and strangled her, then taken a bronchial inhibitor or some peanuts (he's allergic) and also died from suffocation, dropping the glass of water he used to swallow the tablets/peanuts. Harry and Grace were on a space station wich decompressed and they died from hypoxia. The cat with it's smaller body mass survived with the reduced oxygen content. The glass fell to the floor when Grace droped it. The idioic part about "without any further investigation...." Maybe because human lips turn blue, or cyanotic when someone suffocates? These so called "riddles" are just an attempt by people to go "My e-penis is bigger than yours" KBK |

The point of the thing is to make the point to not assume anything....People automatically assume that the detective is on the job investigating the murder of two people....that's all...and chill kay, it's just something to make you think a bit. It's not about epenises, especially seeing as how I got it from a movie made in the '60's....

If you do a search for "riddles" on this forum, there are 14 hits that go back to 2004.
Most of them offer incomplete information and then expect you to arrive at only one answer which is considered the correct one, while there are many many different answers, all of which are also correct. Without supplying all the information, you can't exclude the answers you don't want. Yet people still DO lord over the others when the "magic" answer isn't reached. The point isn't to "not assume anything" because you HAVE to assume plenty to get to whats considered the "correct" answer. You've got to assume that Harry and Grace are fish, and that the cat knocked the bowl off the table, and that the Inspector isn't there investigating a murder. The answers I gave are just as plausible, and more plausible than an inspector investigating the death of two fish. Unless you assume the fish are his pets. Now the jet on a moving runway, thats a good mental exercise. The rest of these are crap. KBK |
