I'm more of a woodsballer, but rec-speedball is fun sometimes.

24hr and Big games are the most fun IMO. There isnt the pressure to make it to finals and win like in tourny play.

It's played with inflatable bunkers.

He was clarifying what the question to the kid was. He knows what Xball is, and was obviously not asking the question himself.

it's fast paced, u run a lot, dive a lot, shoot a lot.  i like having lots of people to shoot at and aksi have a lot of people to get shot by at the same time.  and i also like the fact that you have so many bunkers to move around to.  i like it best when the x is flat down.

Okay Ton Ton, what we are asking basically is what makes X-ball unique compared to other fast paced game types (such as the hyperball choice in the poll).

well i never said that it was completely different from hyperball or other fast paced games that are similar to either of the two.  accually, they're almost the same thing but xball has an x in the middle of it.  i like any fast paced paintball.  i just like xball more because of the x.  i dont know why.  i just like that bunker because sometimes its hard to know who is behind it and where they are behind it.  ive never played woodsball before because there are allways a lot of people waiting to play it there.  so i dont bother waiting in the line, i just go and play on some other field.  i look foreward to play woodsball.

If I'm not mistaken Xball is played as a constant game, with layers being re-introduced after every X number of minutes (and yes there is an X).

While hyperball/ non descript speedball is played in a set time period with final eliminations.

X-Ball is a game/structure type, Hyperball is a field type. Both fall under the category of speedball.

That said:

Speedball is an overall category, it can be broken down into two major styles: X-Ball and Classic Center-flag Speedball.

The FIELDS can be broken down into the categories of:
Pallet
Sup'Air (classic)
Hyperball
Ultimate Airball/Airball/Sup'Air (new)
Spool
etc.

Pallet Fields are made up of wooden pallets and aren't seen as much anymore as straight-up speedball fields, but some of the older places still have them (Cousin's in Plattekill did/does, for example)

Classic Sup'Air is the original inflatable field, the only drawback was the fact that the material used for the bunkers was gas-permeable and required tubes to provide them with air from a fan to keep them from deflating. This caused a lot of tripping/slipping.

Hyperball fields are made up of corrugated plastic pipes/culverts of various sizes. The fact that it was cheap and could be constructed in various forms made it very popular in the older days.

UA/New Sup'air/Airball fields are made up of inflatable bunkers of an air-tight material which doesn't need constant re-filling. They can be staked to the ground in any field configuration and allows for more versatility of bunkers.

Spool fields are way-old and don't exist much anymore as straight speedball fields. They are made up of old cable spools of various sizes that are arranged in a mirrored configuration.

X-ball is a game, speedball/centerflag is a game, hyperball is a field.

ok, all of these names are confusing to me.  and where i play, (hogans alley) the way xball is played there are two teams.  one at one end of the fiels and one at the other.  the ref says go and the games starts.  the game goes on until one team doesn't have any players left.  the team that has players wins.  and there is a field that is like xball but has no x in the middle of it.  there is another field that is the spool style.  and another field that has these big pipes (i dont know what the pipes are originally used for) wich is played the same as the other three.  finally, there is a woods field that i have never played on but want to play on.

Then you are NOT actually playing X-Ball.

Does that clear it up a bit at least?

Thank you for proving my point. You really don't know what Xball is.

They are playing speedball on an Xball field. The field that I go to calls it Xball instead of speedball because it is easier to distinguish by calling it Xball.
