Are you going to get when you live on your own/ able to get one?

This  time next year im hoping to buy a dog, and I think i have chosen what i want. I want a dog that is big enough that he can go hiking, camping, and back packing with me, yet dosnt have to need constant care if i cant walk him for a day or two.

I have decided after some reasearch to get a great dane, I know a lot of people think because there such big dogs they need to be walked alot and that they eat alot, but its actully quite the opposite, there slower matabilism makes them not eat a whole lot, and there kinda lazy, yet very strong, they dont shed, they dont drool, and there intelligent, i cant see a down side to this dog

Im super pumped, I kinda wanna name him scooby, cuz i love scooby doo, but thats just to cliche, ill prob give him a human name, lol

Get a Lab...

They are great family dogs, and they can be put outside all day by themselves and you don't have to worry about them getting hot or cold.

If you get one with a good bloodline it will be a great bird dog also.

I don't mind a mutt so long as it has personality.

They're also totally insane until they get old and mellow out. There's no better dog than a good german shepard, then again, a bad german shepard is about as bad of a dog as you can get. I'll probably get a cat instead since they're low-matainance and often free.

I don't plan on getting any kind of kind of pet that needs daily attention.  I want to go out and do thing without having to worry about feeding or letting my dog out.  I also don't think its fair to a dog to leave it home alone all day long.

We had a German Shorthaired pointer named Archie. He died about a month and a half ago. 14 years old. Absolutely great dog.

I think that may be a little bit besides the point.  Considering dogs love being around humans, they can get lonely and can sometimes even lash out because of it.

Samoyed:

I've had two and loved them completely. Probably the happiest and most loving of any dogs I've ever seen. Very affectionate, but they love to run and exercise. They're Russian sled-dogs. Next one I have is going to be named Aння (Annyah)

^Huskies need alot of attention and exercise to be healthy though. They are great dogs, we used to have one.

Some border collies are absolutely amazing dogs, they are loving and super smart, and can entertain/exercise themselves when you put them outside. But they tend to need to come inside in colder weather.

Right now we have a Black German Shepard at my dad's and a Chesapeake Bay Retriever at my mom's.

The GS is probably one of the two smartest dogs I've ever had, but he eats alot, and needs alot of attention.

The Retriever, well, I think we got a less than normally smart dog.  She doesn't bark at the deer or other animals, but barks at people she knows.  Besides that, they love all kinds of weather, and NEVER have to come in when it's cold because they love it.  They're also one of, if not the only, breed of dog that "smile" at people they like.

We had a great dane when I was little, and I loved it, but he was really energetic, and I think he got bitten by a copperhead.

Dogs dont have a sense of time.

Want to explain the rational behind that statement?
