hey! just got back from paintballing for the first time, and im hooked! trust me, you are not wasting your time by replying to this, im up for it for as long as im able to run around.
ive been doing alittle research and decided on a A5 stealth but i have afew questions...
1) ive read afew threads here on flatline vs apex, and im wondering what the majority of you guys run?
2) just to make sure, i went with the a5 because i like the idea of "sniping" and then with the change of a barrel (im thinking??) go to more of an "assult" setup. the a5 stealth would meet both these needs? recommend barrel for closer shooting? how hard is it to swap the barrel?
3) suggestions for a new guy?
TIA
another expensive thing to do!!!

Welcome to paintball and the forum.
Glad you had fun. :)
Some thoughts:
1. Use the search button. People around here get annoyed when you don't. They can't help it - it's their nature.
2. Flatline vs. Apex is a discussion that has gone on for some time - if you run a search you will find many threads. The consensus, however, appears to be that the Apex is more versatile. But then, I own 2 Flatlines and no Apex. Go figure.
3. Never say/type the word "sniper" or "sniping" again. Seriously. You will thank me for it.
4. Changing barrels is not something you can do mid-game, regardless of barrel. And with a Flatline, it will take a couple of minutes to swap out anyway. Most organized fields, however, will require you to re-chrono after switching barrels.
5. Switching barrels isn't really necessary anyway. The Flatline/Apex is short enough not to be in the way, and as accurate at short range as anything else.
6. Which barrel to use? Perhaps the most asked question on the forum. A search will show dozens of threads. Most people tend to come down to J&J Ceramic and Lapco Bigshot as the most popular.
Good luck.

lol thanks for the input/advice. i just registered so i havent sat down get and done the searches. the "search" comment is big in the VW/car forums also, believe me ive said it
ya after reading afew threads i knew the "s" word is taboo. i know once i get it (even if its a stock a5)i need to just use it and over time change what i dont like. the more i think about it the more im going ot just go with the regular A5 and possibly a longer barrel? i dont know. like i said, ill just do some good reading on here when i have some down time.

Welcome to the Forums.
You've got the idea. If you're set on the A5, pick up a stock one. GO play with it a few games to decide what you think needs improved. As for a barrel, I would reccomend a JJ Ceramic. They're awesome barrels for the price. There are tons of upgrade possibilities available for the A5 and you can take it in any direction you want.

Just a word of advice, earlier I heard you state that you want a longer barrel the thing about this is, you don't want to long of a barrel most recomend a 14 inch barrel because any longer may actually hurt your performance.

12-14 inch barrel are premium choices. I like 12 inch barrels because they are small and as accurate as a 14 inch.

yea, go get yourself a stock A5, you'll thank us later.
play around with it stock, its not a bad choice, and you'll develop a playing style, once you know what your marker can do, and what you want it to do, come back and tell us what you want and we'll gladly point you in the right direction.
Note: Black_Shadow is very pleased that a new forumer used a search, if you want to continue to live (err... i mean, uh... something...), continue to search before posting. Thank you.
BTW: Clark is right about the "s" word. saying that around here will likely result in a flame war. (i'm sure you know forum rules since you have forum experience. so i won't bother explaining any further.)
I would highly recommend you look at the sticky at the top of the page entitled "** First PB Gun? Check This Out!**"

Aww ... we aren't all 'Rocked Cocked and Rifle Ready' but you still gotta love the boys in blue.
SSgt, I wrote a thread on what I felt was good advice for people who were new for the sport, it's not gospel, simply my own observations, check the link on my sig, and again, welcome.

Hey, no worries, you already seem to have an idea of what you want, and It's fun discussing the different markers. I own a Tippmann 98 Custom ... and I swear by it, but it's all about what tastes you have rather than what is the 'best' marker. I take it you're looking more into woodsball than speedball?

ya definitly more woodsball. i read the new pb gun newbie thread, and now im alittle confused. ill do some searching on it, but (from that thread) it seems like the cyclone gives more problems then helps possibly? ahh choices.... im still looking at mask/goggles also im thinking Dye I3 pro thermals or empire e-vent. my other joy is cars and ive always believed in the "you get what you pay for" saying.

Some people have had problems with the Cyclone, but most of us love them to death. I have many hoppers, and prefer the Cyclone over any of them. If you play a lot you might consider buying an extra to keep around, but I think it is one of the very best hoppers around.

I don't know directly about the cyclone due to the fact that I've never played with one, mostly it has a good reputation, despite the fact that it is a gas-fed force feed mechanism. You're certainly more likely to break paint in a cyclone than a simple viewloader, but doesn't that apply to pretty much any advanced feed system?

Nice web page ... and the feild looks decent, the rental equipment is pretty nice. I've never heard of any feild providing pods as rental equipment before. The markers they use appear to be Tippmann 98's ... I've already stated my own feelings as to what an excellent and upgradable marker that is. ... Wow ... that place is pretty near RAF Lakenheath ... I spent three years of my childhood there as a brat.
