The "O" ring on the power spring hangs loose there as it is supposed to. It is the buffer cushion to reduce the impact of the hammer against the back end cap.

Sounds like you turned the velocity screw in the wrong direction. When you found that it malfunctioned when you did that, did you turn it back? Something else may be wrong because even with the velocity screw fully "closed"  the marker will usually shot the ball further than 6 inches. Try turning it counter-clockwise...which increases the velocity. READ THE MANUAL!

The problam is most likely that your detent is in backwards! No, I'm not going to tell you, read the manual...downloadable right here on the Tippmann site, if you have lost the original.

Silly question but is your CO2 tank nearly empty? If it is almost out of CO2 you might not be getting enough pressure. Otherwise Mr. Bruce as offered the only other real possible solutions.

When you go to re-assemble your gun use the diagram that came in the manual and find exactly where each piece goes and what way it goes in. If you mess up with the placement of any one piece, no matter how insignificant it looks you will stop your marker from functioning properly.

That O-ring is supposed to be like that. Make sure you rtank is full and double check that you turned your velocity up not down by mistake. The screw should be further out to raise the power.
