What pressure do you run at?

Subject: What pressure do you run at?

I just went HPA and have the Palmer's.  Just wondering how low people set their pressure.  I know it varies gun to gun but wanted an idea. Do I turn my velocity up or down when adjusting the reg?

what gun are you using. the 98 custom can run as low at 600 psi or so ive heard. i've also heard the A5 can get down to about that pressure too if you upgrade the cyclones stock 1/16th fittings to 1/8 fittings.

dont know much about what pressure will yield the best performance, but i figure if you get a chrono and just start turning down the pressure and shooting with the velocity screw backed all the way out (flush with the inside of the powertube) you'll find you can get down to a decently low pressure and still shoot whatever your field limits are.

Higher pressure means higher velocity with no change in the velocity screw, or the RVA. Ideally it would be great if you could adjust your velocity screw out until it is flush with the inside of the power tube then reduce pressure from the Palmer until the marker fails to cycle. Then add back 100 psi. Then use the RVA to get into the desired velocity ball park. After that I'd use only adjustments in the Palmer to regulate the velocity.

You can play with a balance between the RVA and the pressure to see how low you can go on pressure and maintain the ball velocity. If you are going to save any gas, this is the realm. But, getting the marker to give you adequate velocity at the lowest possible pressure reduces recoil and may also reduce the loudness of the report.

Bruce is right, of course.  But since you have a Cyclone you will have to adjust for that.  The Cyclone requires some air to work, which means that Bruce's hyper-efficient settings may not work for you.  You have to "waste" some gas to get the Cyclone going, so you will have to turn something up a little higher than what is needed just to operate the gun.

Oops, I missed the cyclone in his signature. And I was looking at the list to see if there was some indication of which marker he had.

The pressure adjustment "low point" will have to provide enough pressure for the marker, including the Cyclone, to cycle correctly.
