Has anyone ever heard of JJ Ceramic Barrel shattering, breaking or being extremely fragile?

I went to the store to buy one the other day after some research on barrel types and it almost feels to me as if I were to accidentaly bang it angainst a hard rock or tree that it would break or crack. So I held off buying it till I got some feedback.

No, never heard of it.

I have one and I have put it through some rough times, never had a problem.

the barrel is not made of a ceramic material ... it is simply lined on the inside with a ceramic/teflon coating. they are not "fragile" but try not to be banging it around anyways.

haha yeah no I def. have no intention in abusing the barrel.  I guess the ceramic lining scared me a little.

As a user how do you feel about the barrels performance?

The J&J is so right about self cleaning! I was running up a muddy hill and fell! Barrel strait into mud, I was getting shot at hit both in the mask after 3 self-cleaning shots!

j&j are awesome barrels, very accurate, self cleaning is alright but it is no replacement for a barrel swab and the self cleaning depends on the type of paint fill, for the price they are great but if you have the money go for the j&j edge kit

All aftermarket barrels seam like they will break. The stock tippmann barrels are so unbelievably thick that you aren't used the the aftermarket barrels. I feel like I am going to break my pipe kit tip just holding it, but I know it is strong.

I know this is kind of a dumb question but, what do you guys mean when you say it self cleans itself?  Also, how does it do that?

The teflon coating on the inside of the barrel causes the paint from a broken ball to push itself out of the barrel by firing a few shots after a break. Also known as shooting through a break.

If you have a teflon pan at home then smash an egg on it. Then shake it up and down a few times. Over-all same effect. (other then having to scrub your kitchen down after!)

The Edge kit, that has different sized backs for differnet paint or for different guns? I saw a description about it but it was a little vauge. I'm still working on the barrel issue myself.

the ceramic is fine. if a ball breaks in the barrel you just have to shoot a few times and all the broken ball slides right out.

of course, after the game a squeegee run through is a good idea, but ive broken multiple balls in it in a single game and still been able to hit somebody at 50+ feet.

the barrel isnt actually ceramic, its aluminum coated with teflon and ceramic, the same stuff they put on non-stick pans. as for ceramic being fragile, heck no. why do you think we use ceramic tiles on floors? its tough stuff man.
