Pardon the rant but I've had enough. I hate cops. This was the final straw (after having many incidents with cops) the events that transpired this weekend. Long story short is that I was driving with my girlfriend (having a discussion about our relationship so we really didn't have a destination, just driving so we could have time to talk and don't worry it was her car that I was driving so her gas :-)) and we got lost on a country road. The road dead ended and as I was trying turn the car around and car pulls in and blocks my path. I can see that it's a cop so I wait, 30-45 seconds later he's still just sitting there and so I try pulling forward (because I thought maybe he was trying to turn around as well at the end of this street). Soon as I start to move he flips his lights on, and I'm thinking “what did I do?” He comes up to my car and asks me what I'm doing, I tell him that I got lost and was trying to turn around to which he shoots back “try again buddy.” I was a bit thrown back by his comment so I said “excuse me?” and he said “what are you really doing here? Going to Hell Town?” I tell him no, and that I've never heard of 'Hell Town' before and says “O really? You mean to tell me that you're 'lost' on this dead end street way out here?” I didn't really see a correct answer to this question but I tried anyways to explain to him that I was and that I really didn't know where I was and I had never heard of Hell Town before. He runs the plates and takes my licenses, and when he comes back to the car apparently he thought I was laughing because he asks “What's so funny about this?” and once again, I don't know how to answer this question, so I told him nothing and then I told him that my girlfriend had just been asking me if it was ok that I was driving her car. I guess he didn't like my answer because then he question my driving record and threatened me with a ticket. Finally he let me go on my way. Why did he have to be such a jerk to me? It's not the first time some jerk off thinks he's king-**edited** because the city was dumb enough to give the pompous jackass a badge and a gun. And Yes, I understand not all cops are like this but it seems that I have some luck finding them considering the 15 or so odd times I've had to speak to a cop and they all like to treat me like dirt. |

Are you from Northeast Ohio? Boston Township is locally known as "Hell Town" due to some creepy stuff down there.

I used to go down there at night with a few friends back in high school from time to time. Never saw anything weird, but there are some creepy/questionable people lurking around out there. Basically it's all a bunch of urban legend. It basically looks like where Resident Evil 4 took place. I met a state police officer today to discuss my stolen phone. Everything had gone down as I had expected, he just took my information and suggested a few things to help me out.

That's what you think... Riding around with one of my friends that gets pulled over all the time, I've seen my share of cops that are just <bums> The only time I've ever been pulled over the cops were <bums> They arrested us without reading us our rights, then had us write statements (still without reading us our rights). They smoked all of MY cigarettes, but left 1 in the ashtray after tearing my car to pieces looking for dope. They found about a $10 bag that my buddy had, and a single seed under my seat, along with a pipe in the trunk. Tried to tear my bumper off for some reason, then loaded it onto a towtruck by the bumper, bending it more. To top it off, I later found out that the highschool I attended at the time had worked out a deal with the police and court that any of their students would get a one-time free pass. Any misdemeanor charge was supposed to be referred to the school's liason officer and dropped after performing 30 hours of community service and attending a class. Well, the cops knew about it and refused to write the ticket that way, meaning we had to go to court and pay somewhere around a grand apiece, whereas another group of kids who got arrested 2 days later for the exact same thing got written up for the charges to drop. I was cooperative the whole time, and nonviolent, and one of the officers wanted to just let us go, but his ass partner wouldn't allow it. I know we did something wrong, but at least the cops should treat everyone fairly, and have written it up to be dropped. Wow... Now I remember why I hate cops so damn much. |

Meh, even after my brush with the legal system, I still respect the police as an essential part society.

Police may request biographical information such as name, date of birth and address without reading suspects their Miranda warnings. A statement by the suspect will not constitute admissible evidence unless the suspect has been advised of and waived their "Miranda rights". Confusion regarding the Miranda warning Due to the prevalence of American television programs and motion pictures in which the police characters frequently read suspects their rights, it has become an expected element of arrest procedure. In 2000, Chief Justice William Rehnquist wrote that Miranda warnings had "become embedded in routine police practice to the point where the warnings have become part of our national culture" (Dickerson v. United States, 530 U.S. 428). However, police are only required to warn an individual whom they intend to subject to custodial interrogation at the police station, in a police vehicle or when detained. Arrests can occur without questioning and without the Miranda warning — although if the police do change their mind and decide to interrogate the suspect, the warning must then be given. Furthermore, if public safety warrants such action, the police may ask questions prior to a reading of the Miranda warning, and the evidence thus obtained can sometimes still be used against the defendant. |

| That's a good point. I tend not to believe someone going on a rant about police and their "abuse" simply because people do not understand the law like they always believe. However, I am extremely apt to stand up for civil rights against injustices of all shapes. Ironic that I am anti-death penalty. |

My theory on this particular fact scenario: 1. There had been a rash of minor crimes in that area, apparently committed by teenagers, or the cops were on the lookout for somebody specific, perhaps based on a tip, or they were on "high alert" for some other reason, making it perfectly reasonable to grill you carefully given the circumstances. or 2. | A lot of circumstances here. I've seen cops do some pretty disgusting things to teenagers, and it was tough being there at the time, so I won't say they were just. However, I have seen plenty of people complain about events that didn't actually take place as told, so it's very tough to make a clear assumption. |

So if I was put in handcuffs in the police cruiser, and they were asking us questions about the crimes we were accused of without having read our Miranda rights, that could have gotten us out of trouble?
Or does that just mean that your statement is inadmissable and the cop's story is the only side that gets told? -------------

The only slightly negative run-in I've had with the police is when I got pulled over on my birthday cause we had our music rather loud. When we got pulled over he could smell alcohol because my friend in the passenger seat had been drinking at dinner, which we had just left. He asked if I had any, and I told him that I had a beer with dinner, over an hour ago (which was the case) and of course he doesnt beleive me (fair enough) so he was asking me questions and such, trying to confuse me or get me to screw up/ admit to drinking, etc. He told me to go back to the police car and wait in the back, which I did, then he ran my license/ plates, etc, then explained that he was going to get me to do a breathalizer, and how its done, etc. I of course agreed, and blew a big fat 0. After which he just handed me my license and said I could go.
Really...not bad at all, just took up 5 minutes of my time, when I wasnt going anywhere in particular in the first place, and gave me a story of some sort to share? |

| Our after prom party got broken up Saturday night. Well not really broken up, more of crashed. I heard cops so my friends and i grabbed a keg and ran. Came back 15 minutes later and I guess they had just said to keep the noise down. Dutchess County cops ftw... knock on wood. |

The latter is the pre-Dickerson rule. The cases weren't automatically thrown out, but all evidence gathered as a result of the 5th Amendment violation was thrown out. Post-Dickerson, it's not that simple. I couldn't tell you the details, but basically unless you can convince that court that you have never seen an episode of any cop show, they don't have to Mirandize you before questioning. The reason for the old rule was that many people didn't realize that they had a constitutional right to shut up. | An officer I worked with, who is now a detective, actually arrested Ernest Miranda back in the 70's out in Arizona. He even has a signed Miranda warning card. Ironically enough, he was also the arresting officer of the man who stabbed and killed Ernest Miranda, only to later have to read the man his Miranda rights. |

Well, I got pulled over by 2 cops and I did NOTHING! I was at a hotel with a convenience store across the street. I went to my car because I was lazy and tired and drove over. I took a right instead of a left. This brought me to a rotary which has a state police barracks right on it. I go around the rotary(A little fast) and see both cops sitting at the exit of the barracks. I then pull into the convenience store and both turn their lights on. One was behind me one in front. Conversation went something like this: Oh, and it was only 9 p.m. Cop #1: License and Registration Me: Here you go Cop #1: Do you know why we pulled you over? Me: No Cop #1: Well you went around the rotary and as soon as you saw us you turned and ducked in here. That seems kind of shady. Me: ok... Cop #1: So why are you here tonight? Me: I need a drink (Cop #2 shines light on case of water on my passenger seat) Cop#1: What about that? Me: I want soda (Cop then shines light on old bottle of pepsi in my cup holder) Cop #1: That? Me: It's been there since 7 a.m. Let me rephrase. I would like a cold drink. Cop #1: Where are you staying again? What Room #? Me: Across the street room 502.. Cop #1: Your answers make no sense. What are you doing here? Me: I need a drink Cop #1: Alright I'll be right back I left out the beginning where I explained why I was in Cape cod. Right now the cops switch sides on me. Stupid staties. This is where I do get mad(Extremely) and rude, but I was screwed with first. the cops switch sides on me. Cop #2: Where are you staying again? What Room #? Me: Dude, you already asked me this. I'm not drunk Cop #2: i didn't ask you that Me: Yes you did. Cop # 2: No I didn't Me: Fine, then he did. Why did I get pulled over? Cop # 2: because you ducked away from us Me: no I didn't. I left my hotel room to get a drink. I was too lazy to walk and went to the rotary by accident. Cop #2: Well it seemed odd that you would turn in here as soon as you saw us. Your answers make no sense. You tell us you need a drink while you have a whole case of water right there. Me: Ok....but I didn't. And I told you I want a cold soda. Cop #2: Well now you know why we pulled you over? Me: Yeah sure Cop #2: here's your license.... they then walked away and left... i don't expect anyone to read that, but if anyone does there was no more to the conversation. he got all rude towards me for no reason. And yes, I am bored enough to type that. ------------- Que pasa?

Actually last night a cop came hang out with my and my bro at my house.
Talked about cool stuff dealing wth polivce and whatnot, for no reason whatsoever. its good to be freinds with cops  ------------- Sig is WAY too big. |

| The cop that got me doing 57 in a 40 did a real good job of being an asshole. Of course I was speeding, but the questions that insude were ridiculous. Talk about trying to instigate. And what's worse, I could see my apartment from where he got me, after being on the road for hours. |

I hope you're not trying to justify that cop's actions. He was clearly wrong, so, whether or not he followed proper procedure, there was no reason to have use mace or place her under arrest in the first place ------------- u dont know what to do ur getting mottor boatted Men are from Magmar, women are from Venusaur. |
