Tae, this thread is definately not for you...

Regardless of the comments this thread will probably get, I'm lookin' for some good metal. Now, I understand music is entirely opinion (hence the reason Nickelback still has a fanbase), but I would like to hear what y'all think is good. I need some high-energy music. I'd prefer something more instrumental (like Buckethead), as opposed to the screaming stuff, which I'm not a fan of.

Thanks, yo.

Barely in the metal category, but would Nightwish and similar epic bands suit your needs?

Well, it doesn't need to be metal per se, but I'd like some high-energy music, stressing guitar. I just figured metal was the epitome of this.

The Cult.  The band has been around for a long time undergoing MANY name changes to finally become The Cult.

The roots of this band have been around as long as the Stones have been around.  If you've never heard of them give it a listen.

I am not sure who buckethead is but it sounds like your more into "power metal" as opposed to "black metal"

Try Tristnia
Epica
Therion

You might like epic metal.  I came to epic from the metal metal side.  Not as frantic as speedmetal, but certainly plenty of energy.

The main downside is that epic bands have more slow stuff mixed in.  They also don't emphasize the guitar as much.

Give Nightwish a listen.  Their album Century Child has a good number of faster tracks.  Their recent album, Once, is mostly slow and ponderous.

Between The Buried and Me
Darkest Hour
Poison the Well

That's as far as I go in the metal category. I'm really not much of a fan, but every now and then...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWDY3rD71Ic - Buckethead.

I don't know if he's actually "metal," but he's pretty heavy. I like him because he's a personality, not just another guitarist. Read his Wiki. It said he sometimes randomly breaks into nunchaku displays, someties while playing the guitar. That's awesome.

I will  stay away from adding much

I like some pantera and a little slayer

Most of the metal I like though is closer to classic rock though (sabbath, judas priest)

The onyl metal I can't listen to is hardcore (aka all screaming). I go to a local hardcore show with friends every few weeks and after like 5 minutes, it all blends together.

Would saying nonpoint make me less of a man?

Children of Bodom. Really amazing guitar work, the vocals can get a little annoying after continued listening but good for a 3-5 song stint.

Pantera, try songs like "Walk" and "Cowboys from Hell"

Avenged Sevenfold might have some songs that you would like, if your really into guitar work try out "Eternal Rest". For clean vocals download the songs "M.I.A" and "Strength of the World"

I never said their new stuff was good... like you said, it is Sub-par at best... but like all Metal bands, they make maybe 1 or 2 killer albums, then they get confused and start to suck. Kinda like In Flames, and especially... Slipknot, ugh... those guys used to be kinda good till their 3rd album

Vela together we await the storm is an awesome song but I can't remember the name of the band, and I am definatly not a metal maniac, I like metal but only in small doses. Metallica is definatly own for some old school metal and their instrumentals are pure awesome, call of the ktulu for example is the best 9 minutes of music I've ever heard, and orion is a close second.

Check out some Rammstein, Mutter and Reise Reise have some really catchy songs. Amon Amarth are pretty epic in a viking kind of way. Rhapsody (of fire*) are super epic. So is Gamma Ray. At the Gates are really good too (everyone sounds like THEM, not vice versa). But if you wanna brutality at it's finest, Nile. I know the screaming in all this can be a little too much at first, but you get used to it. I mainly love all this stuff for the guitar work.

Posted By: Panda Man
Date Posted: 21 May 2007 at 3:11pm
He Can't scream anymore, if he does he has a high chance of permently damaging his voice, and what I've heard it's bad enough to where if he screams again, he'll become a mute.

Rammstien = poser metal.

I can't see someone going mute from screaming like that, they'd have to scream a lot and give their vocal cords no break. You'd die of oxygen depriviation before you'd go mute for the rest of your days. IN MY OPINION that is. Before I get slammed for trying to act like a doctor.

Posted By: Da Hui

Yeah he had some serious surgery. His clean vocals are really good but without the screaming it just didnt feel right. Though MIA was still an awesome damn song.

I was going to Say... Scream when your voice is out due to "talking/screaming" to much, and you'll feel some pain, Also, with lots of metal the whole "growling" comes from your Stomach not your throat, if you were to do that... oh... wowzers that would hurt.

-------------

Posted By: Abaddon
Date Posted: 21 May 2007 at 3:41pm
The former singer for Cannibal Corpse (now in Six Feet Under) has had 6 throat surgeries and is still growling. Also, a lot of these bands that "scream" aren't even really screaming. It's more of a really loud whisper that is loud because of the mic. Real screaming would destroy your throat in no time.

Posted By: Da Hui
Date Posted: 21 May 2007 at 3:47pm
No screamer/growler can come close to Dani Filth.

I didn't say it wouldn't hurt, I know it would hurt it's happened to me. I just don't see ripping your vocal cords happening becuase you scream at some concerts. I mean it's not like the guy talks screaming.

If you want energy in a song you cant go wrong with Man O War. They are a bit show-y 80's metal, but the songs themselves are great. Earlier MetallicA and Megadeth, along with Hammerfall will all give you what you want.

I fully agree with this post, metalcore is not very metal at all!

Morbid Angel, Death, Kreator, Deicide, Venom, Sodom, Anthrax, Primus, Infectious Grooves
Deicide's only good cd was their self titled. Heh, Glen Benton has a inverted cross branded on his forhead.

As much as I despise Slipknot now, Joey was a good drummer.

Oh snap, a band in a metal thread I listen to.

I would consider ST more of a thrash-punk band than anything metal.

Godddamitt... here's the <poopy> list ok?

Nile
Cannibal Corpse
Dying Fetus
Pantera... of course
The Black Dahlia Murder
Behemoth
Job for A Cowboy (...is sick, i don't care what you say, see em live!)
Arch Enemy
Nevermore
At The Gates
Amon Amarth
In Flames
Hypocrisy
Strapping Young Lad

There's the metal that makes other metal look really bad.

I think you can say goddamnit.

I still think Children of Bodom has got some of the best guitar work out there today. And they have covered Britney Spears.

^see thats whats getting bizarre about "Metal/Punk/Scremo Queens/Hard Rock" It's getting so interlaced that no one even knows what genre of music they even are. I mean what would happen if a band had 3 diffrent styles on one CD?

I'll come back later and add my list of favorites but for now, look up John Petrucci. He has a buttload of instrumentals and he's very skilled. He played with Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment if you've ever heard of those bands. Dream Theater's vocalist is mostly just really annoying if you ask me but his voice works for a few songs. Liquid Tension Experiment has no vocals as far as I remember. I'll edit this later when I have time to list everything.

Nope, nothing "scene" about that list. I forgot to add Bodom. BDM can actually play their instruments, putting them anywhere near Norma Jean is blasphemy.

Thank you Lightning, go **edited** yourself.

No, No, hes right while it does sound "more deathy" they really are scene I've watched plenty of live videos seen enough hXc pits, and just everything about them is scene.
I'm pissed because I made the be all end all list of metal and no one is paying any attention.
/Scene kid style whinny rant.
