I was cleaning up my gun after a big game and i noticed in my stock barrel there is something stuck in it, its rough and i took a Qtip and rubed some of it on and it was a red color. Can i take steel wool and just clean it off like that or will it ruin the honing? its an aluminum barrel.

steel wool will damage it. Put a squeegie through it.

It sounds like a burr. Run it through really hot water with some soap. If its still there, its a burr

a burr is a small, jagged piece of metal that sticks out on an otherwise smooth, metal surface.  it probably got the red color from paint going through it.  i guess it wouldn't chop paint too bad if the burr was small enough...

Well then, send the stock barrel back to Tippmann for repair.

Don't say never. Otherwise the next game you'll be cursed to hit a tree/rock/soda machine and bust your new barrel up.  I carry my stock barrel around in my case JIC something happened to my precious Freak Kit.

If its reachable, Take a long stick shape file (A chain saw blade sharpener will work) and just file the burr itself. Try not to hit any other part of the barrel with the file. Once it is smooth enough inorder to pass a ball through, you shouldnt have no trouble using the barrel as a back up.

If it came off that easy, than it could have been a flake off a ball that dried to the barrel. I always try to keep in practice of cleaning my tippmanns and inspecting them after every long day of use. That way theres no dought that thier ready for next time if on the spur of the moment.
Well, good for you. Even if you arent planning on using your stock barrel anylonger, there may someday be a time or a buddy might have a problem with the one he is using and could borrow yours inorder to continue playing.
