Did your parents follow film ratings?

I remember watching rated R movies with my dad when i was 6. Then when i grew up i thought it was weird my friends could never watch pg 13 movies... i always thought it was kinda lame.

So did your parents only allow you to watch your age limited movies?

I could watch whatever I wanted as a kid as long as it didn't have nudity in it (typical Western philosophy).

And I grew up preferring R-rated movies as well. I always had a more mature taste in films than my friends did.

When I was a kid, maybe ten or eleven years old, my aunt and uncle were watching my sister and I while my parents were out. To this point I'd never really seen much by way of movies, and my aunt and uncle were watching Full Metal Jacket. I sat down near the beginning, watched a bit with them, and when it got to the murder-suicide part my aunt told me "Maybe you shouldn't be watching" BLAM!! "this." It changed my perception of movies.

Until three years ago I thought that that's where the movie ended.

Strictly. I had to con my parents into letting me watch a PG-13 movie when I was 12.

The second our community got HBO, they lost all of that control.

They used their own discretion, not ratings.

My parents let me watch whatever I wanted. Many of my friends couldn't watch R rated movies like me. Some of them couldn't even see PG-13 until they were 13.

Yes, very strictly until I was over 13. After that they just used their own discretion.

Not strictly, but they did follow it.

They wouldn't stop me from watching it at friends houses or anything, and if they rented something I could see it, but as far as theaters go they wouldn't take me to see R rated movies until I was around 13-14.

No, I watched whatever. Cousin and sister who are 5 and 8 years older than me watched movies and I watched with.

My parents had no problem with me watching R movies. My favorite movies when I was 5 were Terminator 2 and Predator. Meanwhile, my parents didn't allow me to watch Power Rangers or Ninja Turtles because they were "too violent" and the Simpsons because their "humor is too crude."

Eh. They based it on my maturity, not my age.

I had about the same treatment. My parents would much rather have me watch a decent movie that had a few bad words, nipples, or violence than some stupid cartoon. I always thought ninja turtles were retarded, as well as crap like pogs and pokemon. I prefered cartoons that were either funnier(the simpsons, ren and stimpy, animaniacs) or better written like some of the more mainstream superhero stuff. I can remember being denied watching a clockwork orange and maybe a few others, but my parents more or less encouraged us to develope taste. I heard cursing, knew what the words meant and understood why they were inapropriate, saw violence and understood that it sucked IRL, and had a vauge idea that adult men and women liked to kiss each other get naked, I got the living crap scared out of me by a few movies but it was enjoyable. I dont think it hurt me at all, and I think my parents did a reasonably good job explaining those things to me. It's probably the only think I think they really do a top notch job in.

no i always watched whatever i wanted. i remember i watched the headless horseman and the scene where he thorugh the piece of fence through the window and stabbed the guy with it had me creeped out for months. i would duck under the windows, and when i peed, i would kind of lean back so my body would'nt be infront of the window.

My mom tried really hard, but my dad didn't care. So depending on who's house I was, what I could watch changed. Needless to say, my dad was winning.
