Subject: Help With Silliness
Date Posted: 22 June 2007 at 10:22am

So I am working on organizing a social event for our interns, and I am thinking of a decathlon-style combination of events.

But unlike a regular decathlon, I don't want to limit myself to the narrow field of athletics, and I want events that are way more fun/goofy than javelin and high jump.

So I need help with event suggestions.  Criteria:  Cannot be overly dangerous, and must be something that anybody can participate in (they just have to be able to participate, not do it well).  The event cannot take too long.

So far I have:

- Bratwurst eating

- Proofreading

I want at least one or two purely athletic events, but preferably with a goofy spin - just a footrace is boring.  I also want events from any other discipline you can think of.  No restrictions.  My goal is to get the greatest variety possible.

All suggestions welcome.  Thanks.

We have been known to go to the MWR and get the dunk tank. Can you get a hold of a dunk tank?

I was definitely going to suggest the three-legged race.

How about target shooting with a water balloon launcher across a field?

That event where you transfer water between to large buckets with small cups. First to a certain amount in the tub wins.

Nerf archery.

Obstacle course.

This is an odd one: It's a race, with toilet paper. One person holds the end of the toilet paper and the other person runs the race holding the roll. If the paper breaks they have to start over. Especially fun with courses that turn.

Race with an egg on a spoon.

Paper airplane distance competition.

Rugby.

Office chair races.

Line up trash cans and toss ping-pong balls into cans progressively farther away. Like the game on the Bozo show. Ties at the end go until somebody misses the last can.

Spelling bee.

Race balancing a book on your head. If it falls you start over.

place forehead on bat spin around 15 times run 20 yards and place scattered files (scattered throughout the 20 yeards of course) in alphbetic order.
whoever does it the fastest wins!

OR! i had to do this for a school pep rally. (similar to above) we had to get dizzy (from the bat deal) then run to the freethrow line, put this XXL basketball shorts on run to the half court line, put this XXXL jersey on, run to the other freethrow line and shoot the basketball. turn that into a race. it was a lot of fun.

Rambino, have you ever seen the monty python sketch "Upper class twit of the year"? If not, watch it.

Other possible events:
52 pickup
Caber toss
Lawn ornament hurdles
Bobbing for beer

Posted By: The Guy
Date Posted: 22 June 2007 at 12:10pm
Fax Machine Toss
leapfrog
wheelbarrow race
egg toss/water balloon toss
craps
are Jarts legal where you are?

be careful with anything that involves launchers, or the paper airplane throwing event, especially if you work with engineers. You're asking for more trouble than its worth.

team flip cup to start, maybe some pong as well.

Tug of war, capture the flag(play the tag version if you cant get them to play paintball) sack race, fireman's carry race(somebody will certainly go down to much amusement) and dizzy izzy's(the bat thing) then an office obstacle course like diving over/under desks, wheelbarrow race, get those three man water balloon launchers as suggested, but just split them into teams and have them bombard each other from long range. Way more fun than using a target. Race holding an egg between your knees, catch the greased pig, etc.

How many people are going to be participating?

1 Metre (or meter) = 1.0936133 yards. You could do 500 yard if you want.

^^^those really don't work as well as you'd think.

how about a scavenger hunt?

better yet, a 3-legged scavenger hunt?

edit: another good one would be a photo-quote contest.  Get funny pictures off of the internet and get people to make funny quotes corresponding to it.  Funniest wins.
