Hey there, I stopped by the paintball field here yesterday to pick up a friend, and a guy I know was there and he was having problems with his ion. He asked me if I could take a look at it, and said I could have it for a week, so I have it here now. I'm not really sure whats wrong, which is why I'm asking here.

As far as I can tell, when I gas it up, I can hear it leaking (loudest by the feedneck) and it wont fire.

I've never dealt with an ion, or any other electro before in terms of troubleshooting, so if any more information is needed, just ask and I'll do my best to provide it.

Thanks

Have you broke it down to check all the internal airline connections?

I haven't done anything to it yet, because I have no experience with it, so I wanted to ask here so I didnt start looking for problems in the wrong places.
Thanks

You, of course, had the owner's manual to guide you through the disassembly/assembly for the marker, right?  RIGHT?

yes, I have the pdf in front of me. The power switch is working again, but even with the eyes turned off, there is no indication of the marker trying to fire.

*edit*

update: Ok, took it apart completly with sureshots help, put a bit of teflon on the 3 hose screws inside (was careful not to let any over the hole) and theres still no indication of it wanting to fire, and when gassed up, it still leaks

The leaking is probably coming from one of 3 major o rings in the marker

1. the one inside the feedneck, closest to the firing can

2. the 1 of 2 o rings on the bolt nearest to the feedneck

3. the o ring on and inside the small round... forget whats its called plastic piece that goes inside the firing can

those are the ones that mainly leak.. at least for me

Typical Ion leaks are because of bad bolt/breech Orings or the Banjo's are clogged...or the noid hoses are shot.

Lubrication for any Ion is DOW 33 grease only (whatever you have handy...shocker lube, sleek, shocktech butta...whatever).

Relace 3 bolt Orings all with buna. Bolt front, ring (top hat) tail. Grease all 3.

Replace firing chamber Orings. Grease them.

Grease and replace Bolt stop Orings. One inside, one outside.

Look to make sure the bolt stop is in properly. Insert the bolt into the bolt stop from front to back. The flat side goes against the bolt ring (top hat) to make seal.

Banjo's - dismount and use a can of pressurized computer air to blow out grease/debris. When replacing them JUST FINGER-TIGHT with the Allen wrench. Any more than that, you'll snap the fitting.

Open the noid by removing the metal retention clip (pull it straight out from the board) and pulling the noid head straight up. Make sure it's not clogged with grease. Clean with QTip and denatured or rubbing alcohol. Make sure piston goes in the same way it came out. Reattach the retention clip.

Now...you CAN air it up with the firing can separated from the frame...just be careful.

Standard operating pressure is (stock) about 160/180 psi. Modded, it can go as low as 110 (mine goes that low).

EDIT: PM'd you

well now that all depends on your friend's [lack of] upgrades, now doesn't it?

As I stated, the stock operating pressure is somewhere between 160 and 180 psi. My Ion is upgraded way beyond normal...pneumatic upgrades are (original Stage5), Spitfire w/MAC noid, TechT L6/v2 bolt, Clippard QEV, [long] CP reg, Trinity on/off. Operating pressure is 110 psi @ 279 fps and NO leaks. You can't do that with a stock, or even slightly upped Ion...

he has my AIM and hasn't contacted me...and he hasn't responded here either. I'm guessing he either fixed it or threw it back at his buddy in disgust.
