Well, I like writing. I've been wanting to write a good horror story for a while now. Problem is, I think it's one of the most difficult genres to write about, at least for me. You need to capture the reader's imagination and fear, tie them together, and manipulate them to feel whatever you want them to. So, background aside, I need a "monster" for the story I wish to write. Not so much in a literal sense, but I need a basis for the ground fear in the story. It can be psychological, supernatural or physical. I figured the best way to create said "monster" would be to ask the masses. So what would make you check over your shoulder? What would make you hesitate when walking into a dark hallway? Try not to be limited to the terms of human reality. I need beyond that. Basically, I need you to help me scare the crap out of you. So, you're looking for a figurative bogeyman, right?
Because when I think real fear, I don't think of monsters, as it were. That said, all insects and arachnids can be scary when done right. |

Well, that's the thing. I want to create a fear. A fear as a self-substantiating existence. It doesn't have to be limited to a physical being, it can be a curse, an invisible presence, a psychological terror, a haunting or, yes, the proverbial boogyman. ------------- Evil Elvis: "Detrevni is definally like a hillbilly hippy from hell"

Ooo. Psychosis and paranoia. What's real and what's not? That would be a good one to work with. More so for a good reading story though. I don't know if that would relate too well with the reader. i don't like the idea of killer ghosts. like if you a person, atleast i see you coming and can get ready for it-if your a ghost, i'm sitting on the crapper and you could come at me with a bloody hatchet like through the door.

A series of violent murders in your community. Everybody is paranoid. You then find it that its yourself. Kinda like the green goblin in the spiderman movie. And you would be paranoid of being killed everynight. Thinking your seeing things.

The most effective horror for me is that which is rooted in reality... Graphic descriptions of tortue, rape, and other such heinous, inhuman acts.
So if I were writing it, I'd probably go with something along the lines of Silence of the Lambs, 8MM, or Memento... Mind twisting and cruel, but very real. ------------- Real Men Love Cheeses |

What is done in alot of horror stories is a horrible event (ie: murder, mass killing, ect.) happening in an isolated place a long time ago, Then switch to a current setting in which people who have nothing to do with it end up at the same place and are forced to find out what happend because of strange events occuring in the area. (or somthing like that, it's pretty classic but effective)

Also, you could write something about Captain Howdy. Demonic manifestations have always created a creepy feeling with general audiences.

In my opinion, to have an effective horror, someone important/good has to die in a very sad way, leaving others to mourn. As for a "bogeyman" I will leave he forum to decide that. ------------- X |

Write something that plays off of both angels. Use the macarbe/satanic demonic imagery and combine it with human horror. Play off of the "feeling your being watched" or "what if god really existed" type things.

Losing ones mind for whatever reason. My granpa had dementia, during his lucid moments he was terrified of slipping back into dementia and you could see it in his eye - it freaked me out. ------------- Imagine there’s a picture of your favourite thing here. |

One of the craziest movies I seen to date is Jacobs Ladder. I think that Blur of real and sureal is by far scarier. With more Hostel and Saw movies people become used to that kinda stuff. -------------

Anything that disfigures the human form/mind into becoming inherently evil.

Sometimes around Halloween at like Haunted Houses and what not, there will be guys on stilts walking around with the Grim Reaper outfit on. Anything tall like that always freaked me out.
