Subject: My turn for a rant...

Friggen fashion. I hate "fashion." My sister was watching one of those stupid fashion shows one E, and everything I was hearing is crap like, "Now I'm not afraid to go out in public," and "Now I have the confidence to do well in life!" I'm sorry, but that's friggen rediculous. I'll allow personal apperance can help confidence, but the degree it is taken to is insane! If you don't fit in with the crowd, if you don't own a friggen $500 dollar hand bag that's no bigger than my wallet, if you don't own the latest shoes, you are obviously not a productive member of society. That's the belief behind this TV, and people who have great potential are ruined by it. AND THIS ENTERTAINS PEOPLE! That's the part that irritates me the most, the following this culture has. I hate 'em all.

[/rant]

I know the subject is kind of a dead issue, but after being exposed to that show, I had to say something.

[/vent]

Edit: HOLY GOD! Some girl on TV was crying because she didn't like the way she looked in a bathing suit. FREAKING CRYING. I hate people.

why would it boost confidence. Everytime I watch one of those shows, the people already think they look fine. They are already self confident.

Instead the designers come in, make them feel like crap, and then make them spend all this money on new crap.

I'll be completly honest. I have a matching Dooney and Burke wallet and purse. It's an expensive purse. When people see that purse on my arm...they treat me differently. It's weird. But then I wear my favorite one-of-a-kind (worth more than any dooney) shaggy shag purse, I'm treated like any joe schmoe. just because there isn't that expensive label on it. it bugs me sometimes on how people can judge me by my purse. I mean...I'm still the same. So it is kinda different for girls.

Dude, you're not sexy, you're gay. A fashion sense is completely instinctive to you- you just don't realize it cause you've always had it.

Naturally Torn Jeans (I refuse to pay ANYTHING for already-trashed clothes); grease, paint and drywall mudd stained t-shirts; and either a pair of rank (but comfy) new balance, or my dirty steel toe with the "holy crap I'm about to get hit by a lexus" soles (i.e. burn to hell beacuse of foot braking on my bike).

I may look like a hoosier but I'm not [lie].

My GF looks best in jeans and a t-shirt with no make up IMO.
I don't think women need to get super dressed up every time they leave the house.

Brave: I wasn't talking to you, nub.

Guy: Well, yeah. It's the same principle though. If they are already confident with the way they look, tear 'em up so anyone similarly dressed watching the show can spend ub3r millionz on a useless outfit to make them a value to society. It's rediculous.

Cedric: Why should it be different for guys and girls? You cannot convince me the way a person views fashion is in their genes (punny).

Sporx: Honest question, not trying to sound condescending. What made you want to buy a matching designer handbag? I really want to hear first hand imput. Thanks.

EE: Hey, I like those fedoras. They are VERY far from "fashionable" where I live.

Jeez. After looking back on all this, I'm a lot more punk than I realized...

Yeah, I guess you could loop in the "agg" dolts over on PBN into this discussion.

Disclaimer: That is not a comment generalizing everyon on The Nation, or even limited to The Nation. It simply refers to the people who sincerely believe in the "agg" culture and are willing to spend $200-$300 on a JT headband...

Appearance means a lot. I know some of you hate that, but it's true. It won't ever change. Wear nice clothes and get treated better. It's how it works.

Hehe, forgiven

I'm not a 'fashion guru' but askmen.com is my life and I just enjoy looking
sharp when I go to work.

I have to wear suit pants a shirt and tie when I work and I look forward to
it like nobodys business

I just love playing around with color combos and seeing what looks good

but at the same time i look damn sexy in jeans and a white t shirt. so who
knows.

Ummm I think I almost stooped to the agg nation level today.

I asked some guy if he was willing to sell his old school Flex 7 IZE Green mask. I wanted the Hunter green frames(none of this lime crap). It was only because I have a green frame that's spray painted, and red and green= favorite colors.

Anyway, these shows are ridiculous. I have nothing against fashion(except pb fashion), but these shows tell people they are hideous and give them crazy fashionable clothes.

I wear whatever I think looks good, I can honestly say I dont give a crap what anyone else thinks.

During summer I just wear jeans and a t-shirt. Preferably one with some witty saying, like my "Theres no place like 127.0.0.1" shirt.

During winter I look more "stylish" I guess, black pea coat and a black fedora.

But I agree, fashion is retarded.

I have two pairs of pants(one jeans, torn to hell, one khakis, stained with paint and such) about 4 shirts I'll actually wear, and the foot gear WAS a pair of 3 year old Adidas sandals I wore day in/day out(rain, sleet, snow...when we have any of those in Texas) until because of a friend's drunken shenanigans they were lost. Now it's Reebok classics covered in paint, some glittery paint(makes em look like they're shoddily candy painted) and paint pen(Paint Pen=Custom shoe paintjob machine). Superfashionable? no... convenient? Yes

I buy clothes at thrift stores. But really, this is another reason I can't stand TV anymore. Reality TV blows. Everyone is just so fake and superficial, it's sickening. Just look at "My Sweet 16" or whatever it's called. Ridiculous.
