Well, I just got back from shooting the longbow I got from my sister. It's way too weak. I'm now officially looking for a good recurve/longbow, about 45-50 lbs., to target shoot/small game hunt with. I'm all about tradition, so the less knick-knacks the better, but anything recurve/longbow will do fine.

I may just build my own...

What? Rabbits and 'coons? Ya think so? Wouldn't mind keeping it recurve, so I should still have some options.

It would kill them, but it might not always drop them. And if you end up with a compound bow, never shoot them wooden arrows from it, to much power, i have seen them shatter and the shooter gets a face full of wood.

I'm a recurve/longbow fan. I've always been "oldschool."

So what, for small game I should look for a 40 lb. or something? I've never really been bowhunting before.

40lbs would be plenty, but if your going for rabbits 32 would be fine, rabbits are very soft critters, some say if you swing em under your legs real hard their guts will fly out their butt, not hard to kill one.

I'm sure it would take down any small critter if you got a good shot on them, i have heard of kids deer hunting with 35 lbs bows.

I only hunt deer as of now with my bow and the lowest i shoot is 50-55lbs, i got my bow at 55 with now and i wish it could crank it up some more. But also i'm hunting more of big game type stuff.

Yeah, there's little to no deer or any bigger game on my grandma's property. So this should work.

I've hunted turkey with 30 before. You have to get them close, but it works.

I stick to guns...bow hunting is darn expensive.

I use guns and a crossbow. My crossbow has a draw weight of 175 lbs which is good for moose and apparantly elephant - take a look at this video of a guy shooting an elephant: http://www.summerfield.ca/excalibur/elephant_high.wmv - http://www.summerfield.ca/excalibur/elephant_high.wmv

32 is like boarder line of hunting somthing like that. You will probally hit it, and it will run and die a slow painful death.

More specifically, a medieval bow.  That was my first thought.

You can wrap crap up in a newspaper, and its still crap on the inside.  Quit ruining stuff.

To answer questions:

Yes, the medieval bow was obtained at our annual Ren Fest from Bitteroot Bow Company. They make exceptionally nice bows, and my sister wanted one, and this was one of the cheapest they made at $100 for the bow and about another $100 for the accessories and string. It's all authentic, well, except the arrows. They were hand made, but with more "modern" parts.

Pics of sister = no. I don't think you'd want them...

N00dz of sister = no no no. Obtaining said n00dz would be rather awkward...

I hated bow hunting-I'm way too lazy for that. One of my uncles bow hunts wild hogs in east Texas, he walks on foot and doesn't even carry a sidearm. I think he's actually had surgery to repair his nads when one of those wounded pigs jumped up his leg and got him in a sensitive area. Crazy people.

Yeah, that actually sounds fun, minus the whole 'nads thing...

Well, now I'm now officially looking for a good recurve/longbow, about 45-50 lbs., to target shoot/small game hunt with. I'm all about tradition, so the less knick-knacks the better, but anything recurve/longbow will do fine.

Any suggestions? I may just build my own...

That elephant thing was interesting, but boo crossbows.

Long/recurve bows are cool. They'd be good for anything other than turkey hunting. Holding your draw for that long on anything but a compound bow would be pretty daunting.

Making your own would be very cool. Not sure if that's something you could just go to a local lumber yard for. Might make some calls though. If you do end up making you own, keep us posted. I'd like to see how it comes out. Best of luck.
