So I'm going to school in a couple weeks, and I never really have liked laptops that much, but I figure it will be more handy. So I have no idea what constitutes a good laptop these days, and my budget isn't gigantic as far as laptops go. I have between 650 and 800-ish dollars to spend on one. So help would be great. -------------

I picked up a HP for around $750 and it's really nice.

You don't need much, unless you plan on using demanding programs. 1 gig of ram should be sufficient, and any processor now-a-days is going to be fine. You don't need a good video card, unless you plan on gaming with it, but for internet, pictures, word documents, you will meet your budget with a decent setup. Hard drive is all up to you, but usually 80-120 gigs is enough, and that is ample room for a lot of stuff.

If you're on a budget, Sony Vaio is a horrible brand to be looking at. They're premium PC's at a premium price. My laptop's a Vaio, but it was $4k.
For budget-conscious quality, I always suggest Dell. Best bang for the buck from my experience and the hardware support is still decent. Dye Playa's in the right ballpark... 1GB RAM should be fine. I would strongly suggest an Intel Dual Core processor myself. 80-120 GB's on the HDD should be fine. Make sure you get integrated WiFi.. They've almost all got it these days, but you'll end up wishing you had it if you don't get it. ------------- Real Men Love Cheeses |
