So it's an age old debate, and that's not what I'm looking for. I will be purchasing a new console soon and I'm trying to figure out which one.
XBOX360- Has more of an established base, and alot more games, atleast right now. It is also cheaper and easier to come by.
PS3- The "leading Edge", which is costlier but I think it has more potential once people figure out how to exploit it's capabilities. The PS3 doesn't have very many games, but I could play my PS2 games. ( If I'm going to do that, then why buy a PS3 ?)
That's as far as Ive got... either way let me hear your 2 cents.

XBOX360 looks good on any T.V. obviously better on a HDTV. PS3 however to me looks really crappy and grainy on anything but full 1080 resolution. I do like the Blu-Ray player, that ups the value points on the PS3. On the downside theres no vibration.

Besides the demo's at stores I haven't been able to get real seat time with a PS3. Although dead rising and gears of war are GREAT! The 360 is pulling away..

I have both. My Xbox is used almost daily. My PS3 is collecting dust and waiting until the distant day when a game worth playing might potentially come out for it. I dust it weekly. I flipped off the power switch in the back to save electricity. A spider has used the back end of it to secure its webbing between the television and the wall.
I liked Resistance: Fall of Man, but that's about the best the system has had to offer me so far.
I feel that the PS3 has taken such a beating in the market so far that it's going to be tough to get any further off the ground. If Assassin's Creed would come out I'd buy it. The next Final Fantasy is no longer exclusive.
If you want to play games now, Xbox, no question.
I laugh because it's true, and I know it firsthand.

LoL. The comic was prety good.
I'm thinking 360 because like you said I can "play it now" and give the PS3 a little time to warm up. I hope it does, it's almost sad to see Sony getting kicked so hard. So then if I go 360 is the additional cash for the "Elite" worth it? or just go for the premium?

Depends on what you want to do with the hard drive. There is plenty to download, and for me, Final Fantasy XI takes up a buttload of hard drive space. If you want movies and junk get the extra space, or if you've just got the cash.
I wouldn't know if it makes too much of a difference.
Do get an off-console battery charger. Very nice to have.

I won't need the space for downloads as I don't/won't have Xboxlive. And I'm not a fan of Final Fantasy. So eh.. prolly just get the premium and a couple games to start and call it a day.

Somebody remembers me?..lol He's good. It's hard to believe he'll be three in November. But I guess that's life. Although I've gotta get into Barney or something. He does what I do: Builds little bombfires (hasn't lit one *YET*), loves fireworks, and loves to shoot my guns (paintball, Air Soft), he's a sweet kid. So I've got to slow down on corrupting him. He also likes the Air Force, so we now out number my wife. He's not going to like it when I leave for BMT, but in life you have to sacrifice.

I brought the 360. IMHO the PS3 is not only over priced, but doomed to go the way of the NEO GEO. FWIW my 360 died 6 weeks after I brought it. Microsoft had a new Xbox at my door a week latter, with a free month of Xobx live for my troubles. They won me over. & nbsp;

I am in love with my PS3. All of the great games aren't out yet, but I am kept plenty busy. I play Call of Duty 3, Oblivion, and Rainbow Six: Vegas. I also love being able to play online for free. I don't like the idea of having to commit to playing online by paying for it as you do on the 360. Also, if you add up the prices, the 360 and PS3 are about the same when you factor in the 360's cost for XBL and the HD DVD drive. I'm also not positive whether or not the 360 has WiFi, but thats another huge thing I love about my PS3. Running an ethernet from my modem to my PS2 in past years was such a pain.
I vote PS3. And for the games for the PS3, Q4 of this year is looking great. Unfortunately, however, GTA IV has already been delayed.

I will admit, the Wifi for the 360 is outrageous. $99 when I bought it. I played Oblivion on the 360 because it was out first, and that was a huge selling point for me.
I don't give a crap about the HD-DVD drive on the 360 because I have a dvd player and wanted a game system. While it's nice that the PS3 plays Blu-ray, it was in no way why I bought the system.
On the other hand the 360 at least comes with some degree of Hi-def cable out of the box. The PS3 Hi-def cable is $99, offsetting the cost of Wi-fi on the 360.

You can't, that's all. The wii is turning into a massive disappointment for the owners, it's lineup is nothing but low-grade ports and lazy third party development. The most use I get out of mine is the Virtual Console, playing Mario and Wave Race.
Buy a PS3 now and you'll feel like those of us who picked up our 360's last year for 400, and now the Pro has dropped to 349 plus comes HDMI ready.
And any game that's ported from 360, or codeveloped, so far has been the inferior of the two. The 360's lineup is pretty amazing at the moment, with four or five big names (i.e. Stranglehold) coming out this month, and plenty more as we hit the holiday season.

Killzone 2.
I "thought" the 1st of august was it's release(thats what my "release schedule" said) and I turned it into our Market manager, and I maybe rewarded $50 for finding such bad mistake.
But yea, go to youtube.com and look up "killzone 2" there are two versions of it... the 2005 and 2007. The 2007 is going to be the exact look of it. Killzone 2 is going to be running 2 graphics engines and sice the PS3 is a bit more technological advanced compared to the 360 it'll handle all the renders shown as the same as gameplay... everything you see render/real time is going to be the exact same.

If you're referring to my post, I meant that the PS3 games were inferior. The 360 ports have been far superior in almost every situation. Even FEAR, which graphically suffered when moved from PC to 360, degraded in frame rate when moved to the PS3.
It makes sense-it's hard to develop for two drastically different systems at the same time, so they're focusing their attention on the more popular system. Until the PS3 gets out into the public, the public isn't going to get the big end of the development stick.

The 360 is also using the same technology of a few years ago, PS3 is using a different platform, hence why lair and heavenly sword has been delayed twice now... damn glitches.

Maybe it's just me, but the Blu-ray drive doesn't mean a lot to me when it comes to watching HD movies. The real advantage comes into place when the designers can store extra graphical detail on the larger Blu-ray disks, making the advantage of having a Blu-ray/HD DVD drive significant.
Also, I'm not sure what "PS3 Hi-def cable" you're talking about. Any HDMI cable will work. I bought one for $20 from Target and it's working great.

^it's because their still learning.
look at the automobile... do you really think it was going to stop at the model T? it's the exact same way with blu-ray... The designers have to figure out how to use it. I know for a fact when designers get out of their caves and figure out the potential of blu-ray, I see alot better titles coming for sony then microsoft, 2 to 1.

FFXIII is no longer exclusive to the PS3, but that's likely what I'll be playing it on.
My perspective is that I do currently own both systems, which I think is better than simply saying that I hear one is a good system, and I play the Xbox far more, and will until PS3 has a standout game that I really want to have.

I wasn't really making a huge generalization, I'm going by what I hear from Wii owners. And the quality of games out for the Wii just isn't great-of course it's personal opinion, and that's awesome that you're happy with yours, but it's undeniable that the Wii is receiving the short end of the development stick. Not saying we won't see some great titles in the future, just not in the immediate future, so it would be hard for me to recommend buying one to somebody just based on the experience I've had with mine.

well, well.... looks like microsoft is a little worried about sony droping the price of the ps3... Now the elite is only $450, pro $350 and the core is now $270.... hehe this is getting better and better... I might pick up a core system for just "what the hell"....

hmmmmmm. This thread is getting me thinking, because my brother in-law can get me a ps3 for $300 new from his air force base store(the BX) for 300 which is an amazing deal. Also it would be a 60gig.

He's in Korea everything there is extremely cheap. He got me a Gretzky Jersey priced around $250 for $50 at the place that makes jerseys for NHL.com and such. But The ps3 doesn't appeal to me that much but the price might change that. But what really turns me off is I heard about a lawsuit against the ps3 due to the processor it uses and if the lawsuit goes through all ps3's will be destroyed sounds a bit sketchy but scares me.

if you love the 360 get the 360, its a great system!
i mean, i absolutley love my ps3 and im going to stick with it, but everyone is differnt,
if you know for sure you will like your 360 and think you might like a ps3, i think the choice is obvious

Yeah, Killzone 2 is going to be amazing. I can't wait. And if I remember the correct trailer, Little Big Planet is basically a little physics engine-type game.

I chose an Xbox 360. Right now the games out for it are much better, Xbox Live is much more user friendly in my opinion, and I have no need for an HD format.
People that say the Xbox is cheaper are wrong.
If you add the HD DVD player and a wireless network adapter it comes out more expensive.
I also like rumble in my controllers, something sony did not feel was necessary to integrate.
There is also a possiblity for modding the xbox in the future, this is doubtful for the PS3.

I'm not sure what XBL Arcade is, but being named "Arcade," I think I have a decent idea. And yeah, PS3 will have something like that when Home comes out in... October or November I think.

its hard to say,
alot of people are saying there is a rumblie six-axis in the works
others say it will never happen
Six axis if used rights, works and feels great, I never noticed rumble with my ps2 or xbox, so i dont really care though.
as for the controlers them selves, again i play both tons, and dont notice a differnce after like 5 minutes.

XBLA is where you download games straight from the internet, most of them are Independent companies, a majority of the games are worthless (i.e. ports from older systems like the Genesis), but there are some really awesome games to be found, and most of them run about ten bucks.
The Wii Virtual Console is a little more useful for me, since I love old N64 games, and they're starting to add the classics (Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64, and Wave Race are now up).

Supposedly Sony hooked up a contract with a company that will add rumble to the Six Axis, but I don't see it happening soon. Besides, it won't do you any good on the games that are already out.
Agreed that I never notice the rumble myself with the 360, though with a light controller like the Wii Remote, it's more distinct.

Live is a great service, and not terribly expensive. I've never played the PS3, but I've loved having XBL.
The best thing you can do is take a look at the lineup for both companies, and weigh the cost. Right now the PS3 is in its earliest stages, so you don't have a good idea of what kind of exclusive development you'll see, and worst you're really not seeing the amazing quality that Sony promised yet, so it's hard to judge whether you'd be happy with your investment. Again, with the 360 you already have a decent library, and even quite a few excellent $20-$30 games floating around out there. Up to you entirely.

You went somewhere to buy a PS3 and they didn't have any? Thats actually kinda surprising... most stores anticipated a large sale and ended up over-ordering them.

since the price cut ps3 sales have gone up like 135% or something crazy like that,
to bad it wont last for long once all the 60 gigs are gone
edit, also psn (playstation network) is very good, basicly everything you can do on xbl, but its free, (not like xbl costs very much but its something)

ive been fallowing out quarter sales of the PS3, though I could only compair x-mas(Nov. Dec. Jan.) and (Feb march april) compared to ( may, june july) and actually there was a heavy spike a little before x-mas(dec. 10-18th) but sales were breaking even at best, then when the price droped I saw that same spike agian, accept after it left off in December it went on to just go above it another 10% which is telling me, people don't care what it does, as long as it's cheap.

its because when a 360 breaks you just get a diffrent refurbished one. a friend of mine had a core, and he went threw 12 of them(not exaggerating) he then sent it back one last time and told microsoft don't bother on sending me another one.

ill just post this here cuz i dont feel like making a new topic
I was reading the article how the guy put a ps3 in a 50*C sawna (sp?), and it ran for 108 hours.
any way a bunch of 360 fan boys were saying in the comments "omg, 50*C is barely hot all, my sawna is 100*C"
It makes me cry when that would be hot enough to boil your sweat...
do americans still not know that Fahenhiet is basicly unused by the rest of the world?

Most of the problems with the 360's have been overheating issues. The issue of the three rings of death has now been fixed with a better heatsink and apperently cooler 65nm chips. It also now comes with a three year warenty I believe.
I have heard the stories of people going through half a dozen xboxs but its probably solved now.

i have both and regret buying the PS3. its just collecting dust for now.
the intercooler is great but in my case wasnt really necessary. i bought my 360 1 month after release and a intercooler the next day. but my intercooler burnt out and i never replaced it.
i suggest dont put it on a entertainment center's shelves if its gopnna be blocked on more than 2 sides from moving air. mine is sitting on top of my stand away from anything that creates heat.

Some people swear by them, but if you Google it you'll find that alot of people are blaming the intercoolers for **edited** 'ing their 360.
Plus, I'm pretty sure it voids your warranty.

If your 360 is defective there's not much you can do to avoid problems. In fact it's better to run the hell out of it and let the problems show so they're fixed before the warranty runs out.
I've left mine on for hours by accident, never had any problems with it. It has one issue with freezing, but it's not obnoxious enough to send it off to MS just yet.
I believe that MS just changed out quite a few of the parts, and did a complete overhaul on the cooling system for the new line of 360's, so hopefully this problem will fade away, but nonetheless it will always be a huge black eye on the X-Box performance history.
