I have a friend with a '95 Civic that hauls major ass.
The problem is that there are entirely too many inexperienced drivers that watch The Fast and the Furious and all of the sudden become pro racers. Though I have to say they're fun to smoke at stop lights...

I won't race on the streets just because I would be a hypocrit for saying how I hate people when they race down the highway. I would rather go to the track because it is safer and not frowned upon or illegal.

I find racing dirt roads more fun, and in areas where there are no homes it's much safer.

Same times my friend runs. But as you said, there's a huge difference between a tuner and a random rice burner. Those were my favorite races-people who thought that ground effects and overstretched exhaust tips gave them godlike horsepower.
My other pet peeve-paint your damn four bangers. Srsly. It's not cool to drive around in a car that has three different shades of primer. Or better yet-install ground effects and leave them flat black. That screams I don't make enough money to actually make this car go.

anything fwd is a family/economy car. nothing else. period.
Although i am not condoning street racing, i can respect a nicely tuned car, as long as it is tastefully done, none of that crappy cosmetic stuff.
The main reason for street racing out here is lack of a drag strip. The nearest one is in St. Louis (2 hour drive). Now you have to admit, something that you have put a lot of time, money, and hard work into, you aren't going to not want to take it for a fun run. And you definitely aren't going to spend the gas to drive a hundred miles to run just a few times.
Edit: Oh, and Da Hui, i think it's funny that you call them goatse mufflers also.

Haha, it's funny this rant was posted because I had a close encounter of the ricer kind the other day. There were 3 cars that looked like mid-90's japanese cars (camry/civic/whatever) and they had the fart cans and the craptastic paint jobs. I pull into the gas station and as I'm getting filled up the convoy of retards pulls out. Of course, they can't just casually enter the highway, they need to make an exit because they're formula 1 drivers. So they pull up to the highway and proceed to cut off cars that are heading at them at about 50-60 mph assuming that they are fast enough to get up to speed before these cars reach them. Then reality kicks in. They floor it making a whole bunch of noise and go nowhere but they come ever so close to losing control of their cars and kind of dance around at low speed between the two lanes while traffic slows down to avoid creating the apocalypse in front of this once peaceful Hess station. And this happened with each and every one of them so I got to sit there and laugh at all 3.
And the best part is that my nearly bone stock 3.4L grand am (also front wheel drive) could probably smoke them. Haha, I can't wait to get my firebird on the road and start playing with the engine and exhaust. I'll be eating rice on a daily basis.

Not rice but just as stupid and annoying. I did notice that the idiots who usually drive the ricers are taking a dump on some other cars now as well. If it's not a japanese car, it's almost always a VW but they do the same thing. Slap a fart can on a small car with a 4 banger and drive like an idiot. It sounds stupid, looks stupid, and just plan IS stupid.

Yeah, us teenagers are pretty retarded when it comes to driving.
Story semi-related:
One of my friends rear ended a lady the other day. They pulled off the road into a parking lot to inspect the damage and exchange information for insurance reasons. Well, my friend forgets to put the car in park before he gets out, and the his car winds up hitting her car yet again.... .

| Gotta agree there, but as twards the main subject, there are drag strips for a reason, race there, the street is NOT the place to race*rhyme*, and there, you can see how slow your car actually is when you run a 17...

This entire time I have heard nothing but bashing, but what about the cars
that are tuned and actually made to go fast. My friend has a honda del sol he
has a vtec in it and new exhaust and not some stupid fart can either. He
hasn't done anything to make it look different it is just the stock dark green
color it goes fast and sounds good, so you can't just say all "rice" burners
are hideous.

Better than the simple "rice burner" exhausts being slapped on civics and such; are cars that usually carry a better potential at being a tuner car(RSX's and the like) that have an owner that thinks they are racing cars right out of the show room. It's almost sad sometimes.

I hate idiots with civics and while I understand a Focus is close to a domestic version of the civic but I still love my SVT, even if its a 4 cylinder. Of course this is only temporary until I make the money for an SVT Cobra. I can respect 4 cylinders more but they still dont come close to an American V8.
Im just happy I can still smoke those pieces of jap-crap.

For all of you V8>everything people, it's not about the engine, it's about the builder, and then the driver. Don't kid yourself-I've seen four bangers outrun plenty of V8's.
And that's coming from a person who prefers American V8's over basically anything. I've never even owned a rice burner. But I've had my tail end handed to me by a few.

QFT. Just look at the WRX, that's a 4 banger that will smoke a lot of 8's. I don't mind rice burners, if they are tastefully done.

Me too, if money is no object. But for like 25 grand, you can have a mustang that goes pretty good and has a lot of ponies. Of course if you had a lot to spend, it would be import no question-but most people don't have 150k to drop on a car, and if you want something fun and sporty for a fraction of the price, there are quite a few cheaper american cars that fit the bill.

I'm not bashing 4 cyls. Most of the cars i'm considering for my next car have 4 cyls. The others have V6's. And then the majority of the cars are also Japanese.
I'm considering getting a Subaru Legacy. I like the fact they are sedans, and have a lot of tuning parts. Also, they have more horse than my s-10 and get better highway millage. AWD is a plus, however i'd prefer a rwd. I'm going to start with respiratory parts first, then move from there.

Exactly! A Subaru WRX STI / EVO are both 4 bangers and will own just about any under 50k v8 car. Tuned/modified, they are extremely fast.

I'll take an empty street over the track, for the sole reason that if i crash, I'll be able to get insurance money. If you crash on the track, you gotta pay it all out of pocket, unless you tow it off the track (insurance fraud.) I don't see the harm in a stoplight race in an empty area with nobody around, but that's just me.

An insurance spike from a crash would be alot less than me totaling my car on a track, and getting no money. There was a guy on RX8club.com who was doing the quarter mile, hit an oil patch, spun out and crashed his car. Like 10k damage, all out of his pocket.
I have a radar detector and a pretty keen eye for cops, plus many lawyers could get me out of a street racing/speeding ticket. I do it when nobody is around, and I don't have any distractions.
I also received a gift certificate to do a Skip Barber High Performance Driving School course, so I think I'll be pretty safe in my "spirited" driving.

Yes, it's a corolla. However, it happens to have in-dash Pioneer navigation, bluetooth, infinity speakers, alpine subs, amps for all of the above, ipod integration, xm radio and nav traffic. I'm about to have the interior changed to leather i think.
I didn't say I drove luxury, just that i was in to it :-)

I'd much rather have a cloth than leather.

Hopefully I can get my hands on a scion tc. I really like the car. I don't want it for racing but that it has a nice interior and some really cool standard features. It's just a matter of convincing my mom to let me spend my money on it. When I test drove it, since I drive manual, I testes the standard. Sure I had a very little tiny screach here and there, but I was getting used to the power that it had. When my mom jumped in, she put so much gas on before letting loose of the clutch and had a good second of burnout. Now she hates the car and tries to make every little excuse about it. Right now she will say "why do you need that much power" and "the roof is soo low that if you flip, you won't have any safe crunch area." If the car is so low, I definately won't be flipping it and the chances of me flying off a bridge are pretty slim.
Any body have any good things to say about the tc? She wants me to get a mazda 3, but the tc wins out of every safety test I have seen.

A guy I work just bought one and loves it. It's really a nice car, and he's actually won a few races with it. I say go for it if you want it.
Have you driven an RSX? I love those cars.

About...$20k keeps me from a lexus. Use your head. And I am a car stereo installer, so I get all of the stuff I have in my car for super cheap.

I have my heart set on the scion tc right now. My mom said go ahead and try to get a better deal on the tc I am looking at right now. So I guess that it is a yes that I can get one. I haven't really be a fan for the tc look alikes. Never really cared for the rsx or civic. Well I liked the older civic, but not the new ones.
It seems like a lot of cars are looking more and more the same. The 350z has so many cars that look the same as it.

350z's are radically going the way of the chick car. I'm more of an Evo fan as far as tuners go.
But yeah, the TC's are great cars. I only said the RSX because I drove one and loved it. Like Snipa, I'm starting to go for luxury and features more than anything else. I'm almost afraid to post the truck I bought a couple days back for fear of the flaming that shall follow...

^Post away chief.
And BTW they do not deal on new Scions at all. Though you can pick one up used with around 30K miles for around $14-15K. They are great cars.

It's an 07 F-150 FX-2.
Yes, it's a Ford.
Yes, it's underpowered.
Yes, it's incredibly huge and luxurious. It's a freakin Cadillac on the road, and I love what they did with the exterior. I'll post pics later-cue Ford bashing

| I've been to the dealership and they said the price is what it is and it won't change no matter where you go. I'm not trying to buy from the dealership. I'm buying privately owned. I'm looking at an standard 05 tc with 32k miles. The guys asking for 14k. I'm asking him to bring it down to 12.5k. It's a long shot, but no harm in asking.

If I can just get over the fact it's a Ford...I feel weird driving a truck that can't match the looks with the power. Maybe later on down the road when I get a better job she'll get a supercharger and a chip...
Either way, Ford's giving awesome deals on them right now. I got mine $6000 less than sticker, so I decided to swap out the granny Jeep and get something a little less humiliating...

All scions are very nice my dad owns an xb and my friend owns a tc I love the new xb a little better than the old because they changed the body style and gave it a newer engine with more power. As far as scions go brand new they can't and won't try to jack you around on the price, I was with my dad when he bought his and we had trouble finding a dealer to talk to us do to the fact they can't jack around the price. I love the stock stereo it is hard to drive my moms car because she has the mazda stereo in her car and it sounds like crap compared to the scion. I also like the fact that it comes with power windows and locks, most cars for 14 to 15k won't have any of those options. Also they are quite comfortable to ride in lots of reg room and head room well in the xb at least.
