I have decided the time has come for me to get one of these systems. My only delima is which one. I am upstairs, so for online play I would have to crawl through the attic to wire the 360 to my modem. That would pretty much suck. I am more into the games for 360.
Xbox 360: Halo 3, Gears of war PS3: Resistance
So what should I get?
Edit: Could I connect the 360 to my laptop and use my laptops wireless connection on the 360?
Double Edit: I looked into it. I can connect the 360 to my laptop to share my wireless internet connection.

I say 360 because it has/will have more stand out games.
As for the laptop thing im not sure my friend wondered the same thing, but he hasn't tried it yet.

Heh... Sorry if you miss out on Killzone 2 buddy...
Halo 3 = Same Crap you did in Halo 1 & 2
Killzone = Whole new graphic engine, completely new weapons, make your plot as you go(Squad leaders will give you things to do as you strike farther and farther in to Helghast Capital.)
oh.. forgot to add a little more.
Lean & peek moves, shoot threw weak terrain, hardly any enemy dies the same way(enemies die in the enviorment that you gave them(Shoot in the foot they fall forward, shotgun to the back of the causes them to fly forward... etc...) I can say more but no one wants to listen.
Also with the PS3, there is alot more internet options, the PS3 can take outstanding ammounts of game play time without hurting or phasing anything(I'm talking Days). Blu-Ray, yea... it really does add to much, but thats just a little "sweetener" to add to the whole thing.

I've never even played the original Killzone.
Also, Resident Evil 5 is going to be on PS3. Thats gonna be really good to. But I have also heard rumors of it coming to 360 as well.

PS3. I've got mine, and I love it. Plus, PS3 has all the games I want. Killzone 2, GTA, COD4, Medal of Honor, etc. Plus, the Wifi, Blu-ray, and free online play is real nice.
And if you upgrade the 360 with all the features that you would get with the PS3, it'll come out to cost about the same.

GTA is october this year?
I'd go for 360 because it has Gears, Halo, GTA. R6: Vegas. Amazing games. It's also cheaper. Only problem is paying for Live
PS3 is getting good games like Killzone and GTA. It also has R6: Vegas and Resistance. I didn't play alot of resistance, but I was not that impressed. The good games aren't out yet.

You don't need to hook your 360 up to the laptop - you can get a wireless hub at Best Buy for a few bucks (assuming you have Wi-Fi).

CoD 4, GTA, RE5, Medal of Honor, and Unreal Tourney are all coming out on 360 as well as PS3.
I hate to be a fanboy, but if you buy a PS3 you'll either be playing downgraded 360 ports or Resistance for a while. There is a very small lineup of exclusive good content for Sony.
As for the Blu Ray, you can get the HD attachment for the 360, and voila.
Killzone looks awesome, but unfortunately it doesn't really justify a $500 purchase for me personally.

Strat... Well the Xbox still had the same "lame" games when the 360 first released, CoD 2 is just like Resistance for the PS3.
Perfect Dark, Condemned, GUN, PGR3 etc... where their launch games, are they still played or praised today? No. Lots of people didn't like them either when they were released...
Just have to give these game consoles time... instead of wanting everything "I can't wait a year for you to make sure the bugs are worked out... I WANT IT NOW! then I'll give you a bad review for the bugs it has."

No, I agree with you completely, I really think 2008 will see a massive rise in PS3 development. However, it depends on your reasoning for buying a console-do you want an investment, or do you want to play now? It's much easier for me to recommend a system that already has a high quality library and an excellent fall/holiday season lineup.
And just remember, this is coming from a Sony fanboy. I refused to buy into the X-Box, and in fact never bough one. I just recently gave away my PS2 in fact.
As for the 360 launch games-Condemned, Perfect Dark, and PGR were all great games, and in fact you can get them in the bargain bin at Gamestop now. But you're right-the 360 had a pretty slow start. Don't forget Oblivion though.

^yea, if 2008 is a bad year for Sony, I really think Xbox will take over the market, then out of no where another company will compete against Microsoft, and like Sony to Nintendo, and Microsoft to Sony, it'll fall.

I don't think sony will fall. I don't think microsoft will fall. Once games start coming out for PS3 it will sell. I will buy it for Killzone and whatever other games come out for it.
And another company? What the hell more can you do to a console.
I never had an Xbox before and then I got a 360. It amazes me the way Live works

Yeah, and that isn't really much of a concern for me. I've been playing Oblivion, COD3, and RB6: Las Vegas. I'm also really busy with school. Basically, the 360 and PS3 will both have all the major titles, but the 360 will have some additional titles for you to play until the major ones come out on both consoles.

Right. And this was where I was also implying that if you end up buying these upgrades for the 360, you'll end up paying just as much as you would for a PS3 with the same features.

Though, personally at our Wal-mart we don't carry HD movies, I know you can basically get any HD movie anywhere online but I know our store only sells blu-ray. So thats another reason I'm getting a PS3. Alos the HD DVD Drive is external and the blu-ray is internal, so I guess that adds another little "co0o0oL" Factor. Also, I don't think you can answer your phone with a Xbox 360... I know you can answer your phone with a PS3, with a blue tooth headset. Answer the phone during game play

And he forgot to mention taht you actually can't play any online games with the Xbox Live Silver.
I just paid $19.99 for 3 months of live. It's $29 for 3 months, a headset, and like 400 microsoft point.
If you got a basic 360 then that $29 is worth it for the first time.

Hardware wise, people will argue one being better than the other. Really both are pretty much equal in performance, graphic possibilities, etc. It all does come down to simply what games they each have.
360 owns. Microsoft has more exclusives, obviously fan favorites being the Halo and Gears sets (obviously GoW will have a sequal, it sold too good not to!). And some of the Sony ex. are now or going to be available for both!
However for the Final Fantasy, MGS, and honestly I'm a huge fan of Killzone! For those the PS3 would be worth it. That's down the road.
I say get the Elite 360 now, then a year or two down the road pick up the PS3 is you're still fiendin for it. Because by then you can find a good used set of games for cheap, and the pricetag of the console itself will drop. Or a used one again cheap. But for that year+ of waiting you'll have 360 sex with Halo 3!

For those who have a PS3, how much do you like it now?
I think I am going to buy a Xbox 360, CoD4, Halo 3, Gears of War, all games I want to play. And Xbox 360 is 1/2 the price. But I am still considering going with the PS3.

I've been playing more PS3 lately. Older games, but still, Resistance is fun on-line (fewer options than Halo, but much nicer environments) and a better single player game than Halo 3.
The 360 is great, don't get me wrong, but I had Halo burnout after a couple of weeks and needed a change of pace.
Which system for Call of Duty 4... I'm torn. The PSN people seem nicer overall than XBL.

I have been borrowing a 360 for a couple of weeks now, and I am quite enjoying it. Haven't tried the PS3.
One note, though - I would definitely not get the "Arcade" version of the 360, and I might even push for the biggest HD version available. The way the 360 stores your games/achievements, it takes up a fair amount of space. And if you plan on downloading demos (one of the coolest features of the 360), then you will need space for that as well.
The 360 also doesn't come with wireless capabilities, which I believe the PS3 does.
So I wouldn't count on the half price part. By the time you are done spending money, the 360 will still be cheaper, but not by that much.

PS3 is a good system, just doesn't have the games at the moment. Once MGS, Kill Zone, and Grand Turismo comes out I might pick it up.
PS3 UPs- Better machine - More reliable - Good games in the future Downs- Still is a little bit pricey but has dropped substantially - Good games will take a while - Requires a $50 blue booth mic - The online gaming doesn't compare to XBL, there is a reason your paying the money.
360 UPs- Great titles, COD4;2;3, H3 (if you like halo), GOW, the list goes on - XBL, yes you have to pay for it, but it allows for almost flawless gaming and constant updates. I also like the market place. A lot of stuff to play around with - Cheaper, for the most part. Although I suggest getting the elite if you really want a 360. Well worth the extra money for 120g's and a little bit better graphics. I also like the color
Downs- Reliability; I can't speak for everyone but I am on my 3rd one. You have to take precautions when using them. Mainly, you power supply should be plugged into it's on socket. Try avoiding laying it on carpet flat. I have mine in a entertainment center standing up. With a fan on, blowing at a angle at the side towards the back. To circulate the hot air for the back.
A lot of games are available for both 360 and PS3. I personally like the control layout of the 360. Most noticeably the sticks and triggers.

I do prefer the analog quality of the 360, but I like everything else about about the PS3 controller more. It's light and has great spring to the buttons. I also like getting to use my own bluetooth device for the PS3. Find one that's comfortable and you're set. I haven't found a nice option for the 360 that beats the standard headset.
I do need a better bluetooth piece, for comfort, or a way to pad the cheap one I've got, but it works great, gamewise.
And while both systems have backwards compatibility, I play a lot more PS2 games now than original Xbox games.
PSN is free, but has fewer features than XBL. I hate buying points and then spending points however. That's just a stupid system.
With current game selection, a PS3 is far more likely to disappoint than the 360.

Hmmm. Could I put the 360 on a laptop cooling fan?

My first 360 burnt out because it was in a entertainment center cabinet. Now I keep it out on a table, and the power brick is on my new tile. No heat problems at all. Air flow is your friend. They make special fans for the 360, and, around here at least, it comes in a pack with a charging station and extra battery packs.
An off system charger is a bigger boon than I would have thought. I love it.

I guess you wouldn't classify them as a headset. But these things are pure awesome. I play a lot of COD4 Search and Destroy. Where being able to hear everything is a huge advantage. It gives you the performance of a home theater surround sound. But allows you to still talk to your team seeing the noise won't interfere. Also good for late night gaming.
Any type of cooling fan will work. Just make sure the fan isn't stealing juice from the 360. And for the love of god don't buy a inter cooler. All it does is force the hot air back in.

That looks like a good set. They have a similar piece at Best Buy, and I thought about it, but most times I like a smaller set.
If I were to go all out, I'd get the one you posted. Probably sounds amazing. If I could get it to work with the PS3 as well we'd be in business.

Question for you headsetters...
How does that work with the main speaker sounds? If I am getting blasted by game noises from all angles with my volume way up, can I still have meaningful team chat? Or do I turn down/off the main speakers?

It has a optical connection, to the 360 itself. You don't use your tv speakers at all. My room mates thought I finally cracked. All they heard was me in my room with no sound talking to myself. " Pick up the bomb! Ahh damn it you dropped it! Son of mother I'm dead!"
You still have the 5.1 surround sound, but your mic only picks up your voice. Like your sitting in dead silence.

How long is the cable? I sit about 15 feet back from the tv.

I think the cable is 10'. I know you can get extension cables if that's going to be an issue.

I like my PS3.
I was also torn between the 360 and the PS3, but in the end the PS3 won out, simply because all the crap you have to buy for a 360 to match the PS3 out the box would have added up more expensive.
And the games for the 360 are about 50% more expensive than the PS3.
I'm slightly upset that some of the games are only 360 (like Crackdown, Ace Combat 6 and a couple of others) but for out the box useability, the PS3 had absolutely everything you could want (HD, wireless, hard drives and I got a second controller with mine).
I'm happy to wait for some other games to come out for it. Besides, if my new job comes through I'll be able to pick up a 360 and a Wii with no worries :)

I say 360, I'm in the same boat as you right now. I figure the xbox is cheaper, the bumped up the warranty time. People say it's got good games.

I love my 360, I did buy the arcade and the memory card works fine for one game that should be known. But I am unaware of how it will do with two games, but the only downside is I can't look at anyones file share or anything of the sort. I also can't play online campaign with other people. But if you are looking for a cheap solution, the arcade will be fine because then you can get the console a 50 dollar used hard drive and a ten dollar mic all for a little over 300, and the plus side of doing it this way, is you won't need the money up front. But if money is not an issue and it doesn't sound like it would be for you I would spring for the pro or even the elite.
EDIT:Just read comment about intercooler, my friend and I were talking about it and he works at games stop. He told me not to buy one because it does in fact push hot air back into the console. But that is not all that is wrong with it, but some of them also have soldering problems so they burn up and quit working.

I have also heard of extras fans causing issues, I would just leave it out in the open.

That's most probably true.
However the console was sitting on the shelf, in a box, next to an Xbox quite happily waiting to be purchased.

I just noticed that I still have Goldeneye for N64. I borrowed it from a friend five years ago, he moved 3 years ago. Heh.
