Worst labor day weekend EVER. Story time... goes back to last week. I got a blister on my thumb from drumming, not a big deal. I popped it, it healed fairly well. This was maybe tuesday when it was healed. Now thursday. It started to turn a little red, okay i thought. I went on with my day as normal. Even went to basebal practice and did everything i normally do without pain. Next day, a bit bigger, more paingful swelling of the thumb. Told my coach i couldn't even hold a ball. THen it just kept getting worse. My girlfriend came over friday night, and just in the few hours she was over it got even bigger. Saturday morning. A tad bigger. Pretty painful now. Went to the USC game, all was well. It hurt at times, but was pretty tolerable. Sunday, things got bad. Woke up in the morning , my thumb now 4 times it's normal size. EXTREMELY painful. I'm talking the worst pain I can ever remember experiencing. Told my work i couldnt come in, and went to an emergency clinic. He gave me some anti biotics. That ngiht it doubled in size. Worst pain of my life. My mom drove me to the e.r., the put me on some i.v. antibiotic, and stuck a huge ass needle in my thumb. Nothing came out. Nothing. I still can't believe nothing came out with my thumb this big. Left the e.r. at 4 in the mornhing, they told me to come back today. I did, we went through the same stuff. I threw up when i got to the e.r. We switched anti biotics and now instead of taking tylenol + codeine for pain, i got vicodin. Tomorrow i have to go see my doctor, and then he's gonna send me to a hand surgeon , whos gonna tear the thing open. Excuse me if this post is long or confusing, vicodin is doing me well. Forgot to add, it's cellulits, maybe staph. It spread from my thumb to my index and middle finger. -------------

Pimp. I've seen cellulitis pictures posted in some of my science classes over he past few years (I don't know why...) but it does look very painful. Have fun with the meds. |

Yeah yeah, for sure. It's been god awful here though. We practiced in the 112 degree heat. Today was just a cool 107. But fresno heat is the worst, thats for sure. -------------

Wow, really, that blows. I've had staph before and it REALLY sucks, but once you're over it, you feel just great. With me, I just got these huge open sores on my arms. I went into the ER and, without pain medication, they had to "lance and drain" two of them. Having a knife shoved into an infected hole on your arm without anything to dull the pain is a VERY bad experience. Once they get you on the right antibiotics you'll be fine though. They cleared mine up in about a week and I'm good as new right now, minus the large part of my brain I killed with acid and E this summer. Edit: DON'T GET ADDICTED TO THE VICODIN! I love copping in opiate buzz off pills, but taking the whole bottle in a weekend, then buying more and more and more and more from friends leads to a hard decision to get off it all. Honestly, I'd rather have staph again than need to get rid of an opiate addiction. ------------- Something unknown is doing we don't know what. This is why you DON'T pop the blisters. Sure, you do it once or twice and nothing happens. You think its safe to keep doing it, and then BAM you get an infection. Good job getting yourself an infection. ------------- Suck, sqeeze, bang, blow, and GO!

Man, at the ER where I work you can literally at any given time hear the moans of people getting staph worked on. It's now my worst paranoia, I use so much and alcohol solution I think I'm going to have basically no skin left. Good luck though, hope it gets take care of relatively painlessly. -------------

I play drums, so i get blisters all the time. This one pretty much popped on it's own. I put neosporin on it along with a bandaid. IT healed fine, thentwo days later, bam. Good job being a **edited**. -------------

I had a Staph infection about a month ago. What you have sounds like a staph infection, cellultis normally will resolve itself with normal antibiotics in a couple of days. Staph infections have to be cut open. I hoped you got doped up on morphine before getting cut open, it hurts like hell.

No surgery. My doctor called the e.r. doctor an idiot for suggesting . He added another antibiotic. He tried getting some fluid to come out, nothing did. Hurt like hell. So I'm now on two antibiotics plus vicodin.

 In all likelihood, it is staph. It's only spread to my two other fingers. But Brian is right, I got it wayyy early and I have three doctors constantly calling the house to check on everything. I'm in good hands. -------------

I actually got myself one this weekend, and I usually pop them, but for some reason I didn't kn this one. Kinda glad now... it's actually healing a lot better also. That stuff is nasty. Take your meds on time, call the doctor if it looks like it's getting any worse, and don't scratch at it no matter how itchy it gets. Be thankful it's on your thumb and not your beanbag. You really don't want it there. |

OH GOD. Just got back from the doctor. After looking at it and squeezing it ( WHICH HURT LIKE HELL) he gave me a shot in the thumb to numb it. The shot was so painful, my god. Having a needle stuck in it made my arm go crazy, the nurse had to hold my arm down. Then he started to cut holes in my thumb with a razor blade. He squeezed it and some puss came out, but mostly blood. The puss was spread out in pockets around my thumb, so there are at least 5 holes in my thumb from the razor blade. About 20 minutes after I really started to feel it cause the local was wearing off. I'm in a ton of pain right now, waiting for the 3 pain killers to kick in. -------------

Nasty! And any needles in your digits is pure hell, lots of nerve endings there. When I lost the end of my finger, I got 6 needles on my finger; 4 on the base and 2 right in the end where it was whacked off.

cellulitis basicly turns your fat into a liquid im not sure what it does to muscle and other tissue but i had a friend that got it BAD on her leg and half her leg turned black and she had to have most of her leg gutted and skin graphs. (she dident go to the doctor until it exploded)
basicly it will eat you alive from the inside out and it can easily cost you your limb or life if you dont get it treated. but it is easily treated if cought early enough. im not sure if i posted it before or not but i have had it/staff in my face twice in the past few years... its really nasty and evil but luckly i dont think ive scared from it. mabe a little that looks like acne scars but that might be from me digging at stuff. ------------- saving the world, one warship at a time. |

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. I just took off the bandage, and wow is it disgusting Slice marks and blood everywhere. A tiny bit of puss leaked out on it's own, so I guess that's good. -------------
