I dont have to die to go to heaven...just move to Montana...
anyways i have an aunt that lives out in butte. she lives like 2 miles from montana tech so i might go out there next summer. im in the process of selling my 68 stang and my 97 malibu and im not sure what to get. im thinking a jeep cherokee.
1st is ideas on Montana?
2nd is ideas on vehicle? must be 4wd (truck not soccer mom suv), hard top, in closed cabin (no pickups) preferably chevy but i dont think GM makes a truck without a bed for under 150k...(soft top and most pickups will be out of the question due to the -35*F temp in the winter)

Nuclear you fail at funny, and this is coming from me and I know I am not funny.
As for Montana I love it, I have a grandpa and uncle that live outside of libby. I spent a month of my summer there and it was amazing.
As for a vehicle I suggest a hard top wrangler or something small, I suggest something small because it will be better on gas and it is a lot easier to get off on some of the logging roads with a smaller vehicle.

1500 GM with a canopy.
A wrangler is going to be COLD due to the lack of insulation inside the cabin.

ive been trying to figure this out for a while now...
i have seen a few jeep wranglers that look ALOT larger (wider) than most jeep wranglers. what model is this? they look about the same otherwise just scaled up a little bit.

They are called spacers, after market upgrade that go on the axles I believe to widen it. The rubicon might be a little wider, but the spacers are what gives it that squatty look.

Selling the stang? Did you ever finish fixing her up? Anyways, I've got a 95' Jeep Cherokee (first car), and I love it. The pickup is great, but it does seem to fly through gas like it's nothing.

You had me on the beauty of Montana until you said "Butte". You have managed to find the only ugly place in that whole state.

No, not quite, i won't say for fear of thread lock and a possible strike since the mods like to pick on me along with everyone else.

People don't like to pick on you. Enos pinned up a thread warning people to STOP picking on you! But it seems that you go out of your way to annoy people sometimes!

Okay, as a 13 year resident of Montana and someone who has owned a CJ, two YJs, and a TJ here's what I can tell you:
- Wrangler heating
- Anything before approximately '91 will suck in the heating department
- The fan/venting/body was changed in '91 and it was a definite improvement
- Owning a Wrangler in MT
- I drove a '94 soft top for 3 years here, year-round, without a problem (climate control wise)
- However, I was smart enough not to use the plastic soft-top windows in the winter and thus avoided breaking them in half due to the cold (like a friend of mine did)
- Also had a '97 hardtop for a couple of years and it handled the weather even better (and I could roll down the windows)
- If you haven't owned a Wrangler before, MT is not the place I would recommend getting used to one in the winter
- The short wheelbase makes abrupt evasive action challenging when someone else gets stupid
- On slick surfaces, the short wheelbase is very easy for the unwary to lose control of and almost impossible to regain control of
- Gas mileage is very poor.
- Jeep got rid of the inline 6 engine and replaced it with a V6-I really liked that engine (had it in every jeep I owned except for the CJ) and this is the reason my latest vehicle wasn't a jeep

All of the (newer) Jeeps are the same width. The only difference is the Length.
Heres what I would look for: Mid 90's Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 Mid 90's Lexus LX450 4x4 Mid to late 90's or newer Toyota 4Runner 4x4
Edit: look at a Toyota Sequoia 4x4. If I was you thats what I would want. They drive EXCELLENT both on and off road. I've taken my moms 2x4 Sequoia through soft sand where other 4x4 SUV's got stuck with no problem at all.

Anyone who doesn't own a TJ Wrangler (97-06) and tries to tell you that you will be cold in it has no idea what they are talking about. The heater in my Jeep works better than any other vehicle I've ever driven, and that's with the softtop, and even the plastic front door halves.
