hold down the middle button and the play mutton at the same time for like 10-20 seconds, it usually resets it and then it works. if that doesn't work, hold down the middle and menu button, that does something else to reset it. usually one of those 2 key combo's works.

once they fix it, call creative.
once they answer, buy a zen vision of some sort.
one done, profit in your superiority complex because you chose not to conform to the "popular" products on the market.

happened to my buddys after puttin it through the wash. What ya got to do is upgrade itunes to the latest version. It has some kind of usb recovery built in. That worked for his, so try it.

Well, first flip the lock button on and the off then try the middle and play button, you may have to do this more than once. If this doesn't work plug your usb chord into you computer and then into your ipod, push the play button and shine a light on the screen so you can see if some dark gray text has shown up that says something to the effect of ipod battery is to low please wait. If this doesn't show up try to recover your ipod through itunes but you can't do this if you ipod isn't showing up on your computer so if you can't get you ipod to show up you will have to call apple and see if they will fix/replace it for you. Your problem may be that the docking port on the bottom is messed up, my sister had that happen to her ipod nano and they fixed for her but we had to send it in which meant we had to pay shipping and she had to be without her ipod for a week.
___EDIT___ If you have an apple store nearby, go there first especially if your ipod has no special engraving. Because if they can't get it to work, sometimes they will just go in back and grab you a new ipod at no cost to you.

Brought mine in. Didn't turn on. They played with it for like 5 seconds.
They were then like
"Here, I am giving you a new one." I was like "....cool"

Make sure yours usb cord is working. The same thing happened to me, and I had to get a new usb cord. Everything is fine now.
And it is weird hearing all of these iPod malfunction stories. I have had mine for 2 years now and never had a problem.

I have a 2 GB nano and for some reason it had gone blank on me so I had to reset it. Then we got some new cd's and put them on itunes and when tryint to transfer it to my ipod, it said they comp and ipod weren't synced. So my ipod had to be reset because all the songs weren't working. Now it will only let me put on so many songs at a time before I have to unplug then replug the ipod into the comp to let it get recognized.
Glad I got it free from my orthodontist.

I just bought a new 80 gig iPod classic last night, pretty nice.
My old mini would freeze up all the time. You have to toggle the hold button and then hold the center and the menu buttons.

I'd like to say my zen has frozen once, and that was my fault for trying to make it do too much at once.

I'd like to say shut up.
And is there any reason that you know of that explains why creative has discontinued sales on the Zen you bought and were trying to convince me to buy so long ago?

I think he was the one that won a drawing/raffle of some sort at his orthodontist. Though, I oculd be mistaken.

Ah. My orthodonist gave points to kids for showing up on time, not rescheduling, and whatnot. I had like ten points, it was sad. I hated going to the orthodonist.
