18 for a rifle/shotgun, 21 and have a pistol permit for a hand gun. A lot of places have their own rules though, because some gun shops make it 21 no matter what, but the law is 18 for anything other than a pistol. -------------

<3 pennsylvania, 18 for all, need a permit for a pistol..and unbelievably easy to get permitted for a gun, can have it within 24 hours of applying -------------

You need a restricted weapons license, and have to be member of a shooting club. That's the only place you can use it. It's doable, but difficult. ------------- "Abortion is not "choice" in America. How do you go about getting a pistol permit/liscense? Once you get it do you ever have to get it renewed or anything? ------------- NASA and the Americans spent millions of dollars and hundreds of hours to develop a pen that would write in space.....The Russians used a pencil. |

I just walked in to the local sporting goods store on my 18th birthday here in Washington and bought my first rifle. Walked out the door with it within 20 minutes or so.

Also, be aware that there is a difference between how old you need to "BUY" a gun versus how old you need to "OWN" a gun. For example... here in Virginia, you must be 21 to purchase a handgun. However, an 18 year old can legally own one, and open-carry. I'm sure you could actually own a gun long before your 18th birthday. But purchasing one is a different story. There should be several sites available with specific gun laws. If all else fails, a search of NRA.org's site should provide info. Also keep in mind different localities will have different ordinances in place. Read up on your county/city's specific laws... and if no information is available, do yourself a favor and contact your local law enforcement office to ask them. |
