Anyone play? What are your armies?

Tyranids pwn joo.

Reason I bring this up is I was cleaning up my room and found my old army. I had Old One Eye, the Red Terror, and a Hive Tyrant. Everything else is just various Hormagaunts and Termegants and a few Genestealers.

Need some more heavy units and artillery units.

For those that don't know, it's a table top battle game where you build models that represent your army and battle and such. Picture Starcraft on a 4' by 4' table. It's ungodly expensive, but fun. Plus, I like the ability to customize my army.

Always wanted to plau, could never justify the expense though. My friend and I made up a nearly identical game when we were little, using Army Men and lego.

I used to play Warhammer classic. I had a pretty good Elvish army, an Orc army, and I was building a Merc army before I got out of it....pretty cool stuff...Still have a couple of my elves sitting on my dresser cause I liked their paintjobs....

I used to play Mage Knight, but I've never played Warhammer.

Yeah, I remember that.

Still, it's fun. Way too much money, but I enjoy it. I may have to get some more models if I can find out who all still plays where I live.

Years back I traded in my Yu-Gi-Oh cards for something that sounds like a knock-off of that.  It was like Mechwarrior or something, and gameplay sounds about the same.

I play Saim-Hann Eldar, although the craftworld armies are no more since the new codex came out.

I am also taking over my brothers small band of Blood Angels.

I've still got all my miniatures. Haven't played them in over ten years but I burried too much cash and too much time into them to sell them.

Besides, with the Apocalypse rules comming out, might dust them off for a final fling before I have to grow up properly.

KBK

PS I mainly run Smurfs and IG.

Battletech was actually really cool....

Yeah, I had some Battletech things.

Grow up proper. Psh. Warhammer was meant for people who don't grow up. You think little kiddies can afford a single model that costs $40?

That's the one thing that bugs me about Games Workshop. While it's cool they are tweaking the rules based on fan-feedback, I have the classic rulebook, and that cost me $35. Now they have a new one that costs $50. I hope I don't need to buy it to get the latest...

But that's why I play the Tyranids. They adapt. If I need more hive synapse nodes, I can glue a Warrior head on a Gaunt, throw him in a unit and be done with it. Evolution rules FTW.

Took my a while to figure out you guys were talking about the tabletop game...

My only experience with Warhammer is Dawn of War on PC.

*edit* Good lord that's an expensive hobby right there.

Sup gaiz?

Just bought the latest 'Nid codex. God prices are soaring. $22 for what used to be $15. Also, I learned I have to get the new rule book. Turns out, there have been 2 new editions since I stopped playing last. So, chalk up another $50. I'm probably gonna grab a Tyranid Battleforce while I'm there (Games Workshop store) tomorrow, which is $90. Yee-haw for spending more than I should on plastic models!

Oh well. It's something I've been wanting to do for a while.

That must be a great way to meet girls.

I played something similar, it was called dirt clod. You build up a large pile of dirt clods and then throw them at each other.

I paint the figures with my son. We have a huge collection, our idea is to have a huge diorama of a futuristic battlefield. My son likes the 'nids because they look like monsters.  I like the IG and Astartes.  I don't like the table top. Watching grown men argue over obscure rules and and points is disturbing.  I do LAN party DOW with my Bro's when the wives OK it.

FTW.

Dawn of War is a badass RTS, but I've never been one for board-games.

I think back in like 6th grade or so, one of my friends was into Warhammer.  I think the painting and whatever of it appealed more to me than the game itself.
Of course, I went out and bought a box of soldier guys.  When it came around to painting them, my lack of patience got me frustrated and I gave up and never got around to finishing them or ever playing.

My brother's friend gave us like a 500 dollar set of Space Marines when I was in like sixth grade.  It was pretty sweet, but it costs so much money to play.  Fun while it lasted though, until I realized that I would never win the ladies by showing them my dreadnaughts...

i had a friend that used to play that, he used to make his own molds and sell them to people lol, the only game i used to play back then was "magic the gathering".

I always wanted to get into that game, no one else here plays though.

I'll settle for Warhammer Online

I mean, beyond the fact that there would be 40 year old men in games workshop, just going to town on all the kids who paid for their sets through allowance, the time, rules, and all that made it lame after a while.  Plus, I saw those 40 year old men and thought, that will NOT be me.

I have a secret past too.... I loved giant mecha models.

But I dang sure never threw any 16 sided dice and cried over hit points.
