Thought so, but I was not sure after reading RJ45 and seeing that it was a "patch cable". Also, would it be worth the extra $30 to get a CAT6 cable instead? Thanks for the help, guys. |

No, the only difference between CAT5e and CAT6 is the transfer rate. CAT5e transfers at 100Mbps and CAT6 transfers at 120Mbps. But because most routers, and computers only have 10/100 ports the extra bandwidth is not used because the cables can transfer faster than the router/computer can.

What? CAT5e was designed for use with gigabit networks, but it is no longer recommended for such applications because it has noise and crosstalk issues. CAT6 is built with more stringent specs in terms of minimizing such issues. CAT6 is intended to eventually run 10GBASET networks. |

Halo 3 was what finally pushed me over the edge. When I got my LCD, I rearranged my room. I haven't had XBL since because my old cable wouldn't reach, but I didn't have anything that I really felt like playing anyway, so I didn't bother buying a cable. |

Every CAT5e cable I have ever made or used is certifed for only 100, all cat6 is have used are only certifed for 120.
CAT5e only will have acceptable SNR up to a little over 300ft before you need a signal repeater to boost the signal. This is why fiber is the bomb. -------------

So who has a house big enough to require a 500ft cable to run from upstairs to downstairs? I suggest you either move the router closer or quit being a noob and run the cable correctly through the attic and down a wall.

I don't know where you're getting 100 and 120 as maximum speeds, but that's not right. If CAT5 and CAT6 are incapable of much over 120, why are there gigabit ethernet cards available at the local Walmart? Why do mobo manufacturers put gigabit ethernet ports on their boards if no ethernet cables will support it? Edit: Highlight it. |

My 360 is all rigged up and I've been playing mad Live Halo 2 lately to get ready for H3.
I'm pissed though because the BestBuy I pre-ordered my copy at isn't open tonight at 12. I have to wait until at least tomorrow, and I have a feeling the line is going to be too long to wait in before I go to work. I'm thinking about just sitting in line at WalMart tonight once I get off and just waiting, but that'll probably take like 5-6 hours. Probably just going to have to wait until tomorrow or Wednesday.  -------------

lol@paying $40 for a cat6 cable. With that money you could've bought 1000 feet of cat5, along with a crimper, and 100 ends. Turn around and sell it for 50 cents a foot.
