I own a couple barrel kits and one flatline and i love the kits, and love the flatlines range, but i cant hit a thing with it. what if the flatline was in 2 pieces, so you could insert barrel inserts. i know you wouldnt want a perfect fit, but you oculd adjust your fit to better your range and accuracy. like split it down the middle, so you could insert inserts and put it back together. i wonder how much this would cost and how much this would affect the flatliens performance. im also working on an idea to put a 12g in a pistol and have a little valve in it so it is refillable, throwing away metal never seems like a good idea. |

The biggest accuracy problem most people have with the Flatline (F/L) is caused by excess velocity. Besides bieng paint-picky, they are also fps-picky. A good starting point to work from is 275 fps for the 98 F/L and 265 fps for the A5 F/L.* Adjust from there** in either direction and see what kind of results you get. Other things to do would be to make sure you're using small bore paint, holding the marker perfectly level,*** and thoroughly cleaning the barrel after each day of play.**** *The X7 F/L should be treated as an A5 F/L for these purposes. **Very small adjustments in velocity. ***No tilt to either side. ****The rough surface on the inside of the barrel can collect shell residue even when there are no paint breaks. This reduces the friction of the surface which decreases the spin imparted to the ball. Edited to correct amusing spelling error. -------------

You have to really understand how barrel inserts work to know why they would do no good in a Flatline. A barrel's accuracy is only determined by the first 4-5 inches of the barrel- anything beyond that is just there to allow the compressed gas behind the ball to escape before the ball exits the end of the barrel. Barrel inserts are there to make sure the first few inches have the best paint to bore match possible, which increases gas efficiency and accuracy. The Flatline works by putting a backspin on the paintball. It does this by sending the ball down a slightly curved portion of the barrel. This forces the paintball to touch the inside of the barrel in two places: at the bottom of the curve and the top of the curve right before the ball exits the barrel. The paintball is forced to change directions twice during its trip down the barrel. Because the Flatline has to touch the paintball before it leaves the barrel, it negates any effect that barrel inserts would have on accuracy. Barrel inserts could theoretically be used to improve gas efficiency with a Flatline, but the Flatline usually only uses one bore size of paintball, so barrel inserts would not help that much. Inserts could be effective in an Apex to improve gas efficiency and accuracy, but the accuracy would only be improved when the Apex backspin paddle is set to zero (no spin). ------------- WAR EAGLE!!! |

wouldnt a larger ball that fits snuggly in the flatline work poorly? small bore paint is needed for optimum performance out of the flatline, so what i meant was to use the barrel kit to allow all size of paint to work as well as the small bore paint. |

It has to use smaller bore paint to make the direction changes in the barrel. Larger paint busts because it is too big to make the turns. An insert would not help. Another Flatline with a larger barrel size would work, but then you just have another barrel, not an insert or an interchangeable back piece.
