A lot of people get songs stuck in their heads, but some people, like me, also get other things stuck in their heads. It could be a word, a phrase, a lyric, an image... Basically anything that seems to intrude on what you were otherwise thinking about.

What's been caught in your head lately? Anything you can't shake? Also, how do you normally purge the thing? Does it just go away on its own, or do you have some technique to rid yourself of it, like all the supposed cures for hiccups.

Right now, and I can't explain why, the word "poo" is in my head and I keep thinking it over and over until it stopped making sense about an hour ago.

I have the song My War by Black Flag stuck in my head.

When I want to clear my head I usually just go for a drive or mow the yard. I enjoy mowing the yard. But it turns my feet green because I mow the yard in flip flops because I dont have any shoes that fit no more.

With songs I can usually sing them through or listen to them and that gives it a sense of completion, making it go away faster.

I have this image in my mind right now of this guy I saw this morning riding his bike.  He was just moving along then for some reason he stood up and jumped off.  He landed on his feet but like the bike go until it crashed.  I kinda just want to know why he did it.

Usually when I get things stuck in my head they just go away after awhile.

A lot of times, when I've been having trouble falling to sleep I'll be laying there half-asleep usually with a word or phrase repeatedly running through my mind. It's always something completely irrational, maybe something that I thought of during the day, and I'll keep thinking about nothing else over and over repeatedly until it doesn't even make sense.

I don't know if that's what you were talking about, but I do it all the time.

I have that feeling fairly often. When I'm not actively depressed or manic I have that relief about me. I'm ok, and I feel pretty alright, but I'm waiting for it happen. Odd thoughts, random associations that I find incredible or funny, humor out of scope of what made me laugh.

Yeah, that's it. When I was a teenager it was horrible. I couldn't sleep at all until I was so exhausted I had to sleep. Now that it's calmed down and I've learned to turn off my mind completely I love sleep.

I was wondering about that myself. Go for it. How creative can you get here?

Edit: Incidentally the word is no longer in my head. Repeated intentional repetition did the trick.

I've had the word 'enter' stuck in my head for roughly four years.
Sometimes all I can do is spell it out in my head repeatedly, E N T E R.

It happens right before I go to sleep.  My mind will sort of drift into dream mode, and I will think of random things that make no sense.  Then 2 seconds after I think it, I forget it and can't remember the thought.  At which point all I'm thinking is "**edited** " and I'm wide awake.

I usually get unintelligable phrases from songs stuck in my head, like where someone is rapping to fast, or (usually only with Tech N9ne) when the producer has the track played backwards for a bit and I have absolutely no clue what is being said.

To get rid of it I usually just listen to the song so much that I don't care about the lyrics anymore or I look it up on the nets.
