So, I'm actually considering getting homeschooled. It would be so much easier, I could just get high marks without even trying. Any opinions on that?

Yeah, why waste the effort in getting good grades when you can concentrate on more important things?

I'm not really "homeschooled" per se - but I've designed my own
curriculum, worked with tutors, and taken college courses rather than
complete my final year at highschool... I don't know what your approach
would be, but independant schooling isn't a walk in the park if you're
doing it properly.

The best thing about being home schooled is you don't have to get all those painful immunizations to attend.

I do virtual school. I'm currently re-taking most of the classes I failed in 10th grade (reason I left regular school...Total druggy loser). I have straight A's and will be done with my school year by Christmas and then I have an 8 month Vacation till senior year (back at traditional school).

Incorrect.
In fact, in some cases homeschooling can actually give you a leg up at
competitive universities - that is as long as you're not a total weirdo.
Just consider how many highschools there are in the country. For each of
those highschools there is a valedictorian, a salutatorian and a handful of
other students who are extremely bright.
How many people, on the other hand, are driven and passionate enough
to persue an education independantly? These applicants are put in a
completely different pool and can be very appealing to universities.
It sounds like the poster is looking for an easy out, so he'll probably just
end up screwing himself over, but homeschooling (as long as it's seperate
from religion) isn't such a faux pas these days as far as universities are
concerned.
.....Just for the record....

If there's one thing I've learned about traditional schooling in my
adventures as an independant study student it's that you absolutely can
not beat highschool for convenience. If you think homeschooling would
somehow be more efficient you're absolutely crazy.
Not to mention, the 'pointless' stuff you speak of is actually a really
important foundation to have.

I wouldn't trade my senior year in high school for anything. You really will cripple yourself socially if you decide that you don't even want to go and sit through school. Most of the stuff you learn in school(and in college, so far for me) isn't from the classrooms.
Find a sport, or a club, or SOMETHING that you're interested in at school. There's probably kids that feel just like you.

There's a stigma that comes with homeschooling...
A lot of the people who decide to homeschool do it for extreme religious
purposes or because they're so socially awkward that they can't stand a
typical highschool...

I should probably say what I want to be eh? I want to be an air traffic controller. When I finish high school, I will apply there and if they accept me I will go to their training center where you learn for 4-10 months. After that you get sent to a control tower anywhere in Canada where you do on the job training where you start getting paid around 30 000$. After the on the job training is complete, your salary increases depending on location... etc. anywhere from 50 000 to 100 000$

I've been home-schooled all of my life, and I know quite a few other home-schoolers. Speaking from experience I can accurately say this tends to be true. If you are not actively social, and you home-school. You will be a weird ass. Take me for example, I never properly learned how to pick up women.
Now I suffer.
As for colleges - You actually have a fairly decent advantage being home-schooled, pending your not a wierdo.
And for it being easier? Dream on. So much so, I see college as a walk in the park.

Yea, homeschooling is no joke, (from what I understand), and it's not just sitting home eating milk and cookies and telling mommy to put you down for a A. You have to constantly take tests and what not to make sure you're being taught properly and what not. And the social thing has got to be a huge disadvantage (like you said). I am shy to begin with, so I can't imagine what I would be like without interacting with people all day, not that I don't have a lot of friends, I just tend to feel a little awkward when I'm meeting new people.

I have two friends that are doing their schooling online, thus being "homeschooled."
The first is actually a really cool guy. He always hangs out with us on the weekends, but he does tend to be a little anti-social around girls. He is homeschooled because he is a nationally ranked amateur tennis player and will someday win the US Open. Right now he is in Argentina playing.
The second is being homeschooled because he didn't like regular high school. It was too hard for him, or at least that was his excuse. He sits at home all day and only talks to 2-3 people outside of his family on a regular basis. He is definitely a weirdo.
Unless you have something to keep you busy, like tennis, homeschooling will get very lonely and you will likely become depressed.

Only a home-schooled kid would be honest? Grow a sac.
It's just a typical offset of homeschooling, you always tend to lack some sort of social awareness. For me, I never really became confident around women.
May as well tell the guy how it is, he seems to want to know.
As for it not being worth it. I run my own business, carry strait As in college, I am a supervisor at another business. I've worked for AT&T, Marriott hotels, and Johnson control. I have recommendations and ties in all those businesses.
I'd hardly say homeschooling isn't worth it.
If you stay critical about stimulating your social awareness by staying active in various clubs or sports... You're typically fine.
It's the kids who's parents lock them away for 18 years who are crazy.

If your doing homeschooling to avoid social situations, you'll be screwed. I agree in some situations it can help you a great deal, such as if your dedicated and focused. It can only hurt you though when your just trying to avoid high school. No matter what though, homeschooling will mess with your social skills, there is no avoiding it.
I have two friends my age who have been home-schooled. The first did homeschooling for his entire middle school years because the parents were nervous about his going to a public middle school (not a terribly invalid feeling as the middle school he would have gone to had, only a few years previously, been host to the worst school beating on Maui that I know of where the kid had to be airlifted out.) Today hes fine, but he missed some social aspects and as such he irritates a lot of people.
The second friend is the perfect picture of poor homeschooling. He was home -schooled his whole life, he has zero social skills, hes horribly annoying, his education boarders on maybe a 7th grader's and his very slow mentally.

Wow...the ideas about homeschoolers out there are pretty ignorant.
I fell into the category of people who got ripped out of school by their parents for getting in too many fights. My mom was pretty much a religious extremist at the time (she's changed now, go figure), but really the religious aspect had no impact on me whatsoever.
Anyway, point being, I turned out just fine IMO. I had a distinct lack of social contact for a few years, but I started work at 16, and eventually caught up to everyone else. There's a slight barrier to overcome, but honestly, how many people in here were hanging out with the entire school when you were in high school? It's a pretty safe assumption that most people have a limited group of friends that they keep throughout their time in school, and those friends are just as easy to come by in homeschooling as they are in high school, unless you're just a complete anti-social nutjob.
As for you homeschooling-what's your reasoning? If you're having an akward time at school, you really need to step up and face the issue. Trust me, you'll regret it if you don't. Once you run from one issue in your life, everything else goes down hill, especially social problems. Homeschooling will only compound any social issues you have. I'm not saying you have any, I'm just throwing that out there.
What grade are you in? If you're close to high school, it's going to be tough to coordinate your homeschooling to your current academic situation. It's alot harder than you think to complete switch learning styles several years into schooling. For several months it's like first grade all over again, you're having to pick up on new things, you'll be relearning alot, and likely there are alot of things you may never learn, because homeschooling differs greatly from public school in pacing. You'd have to mix and match several curriculums, and then you run the risk of not actually getting a diploma when you're finished, and having to take a diploma test somewhere else, or else get your GED. Things to take into consideration.

Practice kissing on your sister, it'll help.

I agree most homeschool kids end up weird due to lack of socialization.
However I think my opinions on this are skewed, as I never went to public school, so I cannot really say.
If you are simply smarter than what they are teaching in high-school, duel enroll in a local community college. At least then you get to be around people.
If you do it for religious reasons...then you are screwed for life.

I would have to say I definitely think regular school is better. Not only do you get more social experience, but you get so much more knowledge from your teachers. I've learned as much from my teachers outside of class time than in class, and that knowledge is more applied to my interests and life goals than what I learn in school. Having connections like that are always good things.
I would say you really need to go to a normal school. If you want to be an Air Traffic Controller, homeschooling is not going to be good for you. Is it really smart to go through your teenage years without friends, only to be sitting in a pitch black room as an adult talking to people through a microphone?

A friend of mine was home school until recently. He was basically spoon fed everything he now believes, such as religion.
It's ridiculous.

Find out about the duel enrollment program in your area.
If you really do feel you are advanced academically, it is the best way to go. USUALLY it is completely free, including tuition and books.
You will probably only take basic core classes (Comp, college algebra, intro to economics) but they will boost your high-school GPA, plus give you college credit if you decide to go to college full time somewhere else. If you decide not to go to college full time, you can have damn-near an AA degree by the time you leave high-school.
Plus if it is the people in your high-school you don't like, you will be around college level people all day.
