I like both these surefire flashlights but i dont know which one id rather have. which would you get?
http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/co_disp/displ/prrfnbr/24437/sesent/00 - 6P Defender
http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/co_disp/displ/prrfnbr/1132/sesent/00 - E2D Executive Defender
I like the Executive one because it has those I think they are called Bezels, on the bottom for striking someone as well as the top. But I like the 6P (the larger one) because it would have more weight behind it, also cheaper, and slightly brighter. I just dont know which to get though.
EDIT: added pictures

I have a Mag Lite in my truck. It is pretty good.

Wait, are you buying a flashlight to beat someone with?
I'd go with the Executive. It lasts longer, and is nearly as bright.
*That is unless you get the high output lamp for the 6P.

Why would you spend so much on a flashlight?

Are you going to be mounting this on your rifle? If so, get an M2 or an M3; they're designed for use on rifles. If not, go with the brighter one. Getting smacked on the head with either one is gonna suck, but bright light gives you some standoff distance in self defense. Getting one of those shone in your eyes at night really sucks; I've tried it on myself with an older 90 lumen light I used before I got my M3. That will buy you several seconds to haul ass out of there.

Yup, he actually said that.

yeah but these two are 60 or 65 lumen. still bright though. its not for my rifle. they'll issue me one. this is more of self defense crap at night. and you always want a good flashlight handy.
also i dont want anything big, because i do security, and we are supposed to carry a flashlight. i dont, because i aint gona carry something big on my belt. screw that. so a little flashlight like these with the belt thing works great for that as well.
i like the 6P because its bigger and brighet. but the E2D has the bezel's on both ends which is definitely cooler. and potentially more useful being able to bash someone with either end.
also, the different bulbs or whatever you can get for the flashlight mean you need to take the strike bezel's off, so then it wont be a defender model.
EDIT: At least i think you need to take strike bezels off completely and not use them

I'm kind of a flashlight whore. I don't have any really nice ones like that though. My dad gave me a lower-end Pelican recently. I like it a lot.

I bought the 6P. Its amazing how bright just the regular 65 lumen lamp was. But I did upgrade to the p61 lamp assembly which outputs 120 Lumens. It is very blinding I must say. I didnt have to replace the bezel with the new lamp though. The lamp assembly is just the reflector and lamp. The bezel stays the same. At least for the 6P.

do you like it paintball? do you think just the single bezel is effective or would you like the double bezel more? also, is it hard to switch lamps? and how long would you say it takes to do so?

I would go with the brighter of the flashlight. For one, how often do you think you'll have to hit someone with it? And two, will the extra bezels really make that much of a difference? I'd think that getting hit with a flashlight would hurt whether or not I got hit with the bezel side.
** On a side note, I never thought a flashlight could actually look 'cool', but these ones certainly do.

alright i ordered the 6P. the lower cost helped the decision along with slap shots wisdom. thanks for the help. and for $3 more than the E2D which i was willing to buy, i ordered the super bright lamp for the 6P, and a holster for it.

As long as it takes for you to unscrew the bezel. Then you just pop the new lamp in and your all good to go. I use to love my mag-lite until I bought a surefire. I will not ever buy another brand again unless its a Surefire. For buying batteries its actually cheaper to buy the surefire ones. Just a word to the wise.

Damn, I wish I had seen this post earlier.
I am a torch whore. I love them and I swear by SureFire.
My "collection" consists of two large Maglights, a 4 D cell and a 2 D cell. Both are emergency flashlights. the 4 in in my car, the 2 in in my house.
I have a 2 AA cellMini Maglight for DIY and general "where did that go" light.
I used to own a 6P, but it got lifted by one of my friends. When I found out who....
It was replaced with one of the G2 polymer lights. This is for home defence. It gets it's batteries rotated every 2 months. Nice and bright and compact. This lives on the side of my bed.
I also have the weapon light version of this light. It's very useful, when it's on a gun. But it spends most of it's life in the gunbag.
I used to own an E2E Executive, but I gave this to my brother as a present.
I replaced this with an E2D Defender and have never looked back.
I carry my E2D in a pocket, using the built in clip like a pocket knife clip. The rear bezzel prevents it being activated by things in the pocket. Bight light, long battery life (compared to the 6P) and it's lighter too boot.
This torch goes everywhere with me, and gets it's batteries replaced every month.
Seriously, get the Sure Fire batteries. They last longer than any other similar sized battery, and they are so cheap even if they didn't it's fine.
The only thing I've noticed with them is they give no hint they are running out. Your torch will be 100% bright one minute and dead the next.
The bezels don't make that much of a difference, but wielded like a Kuboton they will protect the lense and the bulk from breaking. The rear bezel on a E2D protects from accidental activations.
The 6P with the high intensity output is a fantastic piece of equipment and I hope you will get years of good service from it.
On a side note, I was doing some low light shooting with my .45ACP and my E2E, and I was shooting a little sloppy on my last string after a reload. I didn't have a two handed grip on my gun (obviously, onehad a torch in it) but my supporting hand wasn't even close. The torch was behind the slide.
The slide slammed back into the front of the torch and nearly knocked it out of my hand. It gouged the metal, but the torch carried on working.
I've only ever received good customer support from SureFire as well.

alright awesome. eventually i'll probably get another surefire but they are expensive so i'll wait. the cheaper price of the 6P contributed to my buying that. i ordered a 12 pack of batteries today. damn lithium batteries are expensive haha. but i got sick of my minimag constantly dieing and not working correctly so i'm hoping this'll be a good investment but you seem to really like your surefire Kayback and ive never heard anything bad about them so i dont think i'll regret it. i just hope it comes in the mail soon.

Yeah, I really want some of their more expensive torches, but we have to pay roughly 100% markup on imported stuff, and the local currency is R7 to $1. I like the Dominator for a house torch :)
I'm looking at getting a SureFire frontend for my Remington 870 shotgun.
I used to own a couple of Streamlights, but they just aren't in Surefire's class IMHO. I palmed one of those off on my brother and the other two to where I work.
The Surefire bulbs also last a nice long time, and seem very resistant to damage, even when hot.
I once produced my Surefire at a braai (BBQ) after a couple of glasses of whiskey. We needed to check the meat with it. They ran the batteries on the 6P flat. The bulb got so hot it melted the lense of the torch. The bulb lasted a good couple of uses after that ( roughly two years of owning the torch later and I had to replace it).
Since I bought my first torch I've replaced two 6P/G2/weapon light bulbs and one E2E light. The one that got hit by the slide eventually stopped working, but it burnt long enough for me to finish that shoot.
My minimag is useful for incidental things. I still sometimes use the G2 and the E2D for looking at night. The twist top of the Mini isn't as useful and the light it throws isn't anywhere near tje Surefire's. The Minimag lights where it's pointed. The Surefire lights the room :)
Don't worry you won't regret it.
I've had stuff arrive from SureFire in the States to South Africa in two weeks normal mail.

Funny because my dad said the same thing. He would not stop giving me grief over buying a 60 dollar flashlight. He had to use it one day since he was working in the pentagon and he lost his mini mag. He actually admitted it was really nice and brighter then his maglite.
