The family is interested in buying a new ATV.
around 400 to 550 CC utility model, thinking Polaris or Arctic cat but other brands welcome. My family would not be able to handle a manual transmission so automatic.
Any suggestions?

either yamaha grizzly (my dad has the 660 CC and what a reliable machine!)
Or a Bombardier.

I ride 60 mile runs all the time through some tough trails, and I can honestly say polaris'es don't hold up. For every yamaha grizzly or brute force pulled over, there are like 5-10 polaris-es. I would go yamaha grizzly or kawi brute force, those things are amazing 4x4's. And when I say break down, I dont mean a flat; I mean like over heating, steeering coloumns busted off (the guy was holding his steering wheel and walking around with it), more overheating, and axles snapped completely off, where we literally flipped the quad on it's side and ratchet-strapped it back together so he could ride off the trail. Polaris for the loss. This guy we ride with is huge, and rides his brute like an animal, and it has 4000 hard and painful miles on it and still runs strong lol. I would definetly go with one of those 2.

Thanks for the help you guys, I was looking into the grizzly and brute forces. I originally went to Honda's website but noticed they have a small selection of automatics in the engine size we are looking at.

To be honest i would go with a Can-Am. I race in the WPSA (proffesional fourwheeler races around the country) and they have a utility class that they beat the living piss out of those machines. Can-Am is usually first being able to take the beatings and having sheer power to pull away from everyone else. Arctic Cat is also a good utility in that class. They are dependable and are alittle smaller in size and slower which may be good for younger riders. It all depends on preference too. How much cash are you willing to put out too?

Stick with Honda or Yamaha, Honda makes great utility machines. but at the same time a Grizzly 450 would be great.

I'm sure you have heard of Can-Am, Part of the reason i don't care for them is that they change their company name every other day, they have been called Bombardier (Lots of jet skis made under that name) BRP and also now Can-Am which stands for Canada-America or Canadian-American something along those lines.
Just get the Grizzly 450 and call it good, Grizzly's are amazing quads...

I have read it somewhere, I believe it was their original name back in the day when they made dirt bikes if i'm not mistaken.
It was changed to Can-Am around the start of the summer? Less than a year ago, and before that it was BRP but only for a few months, i think BRP stood for Bombardier Racing Products.

Usually just plastics and what not, some times they will throw in suspension. You have to look it up, most likely just the plastic and graphics.
Heres the Yamaha page for the Grizzly 450

I've got a 2004 Kawasaki Prairie 700 with 26" Mud-Lites. I LOVE IT! The only complaint, and I really mean ONLY is the striahgt axle. I love it because I can do alot more fast trail riding and more "sporty" things easier than my friends with other utility quads. But the flip-side is when it gets really rutty I get hung up a lot easier. Either way I wouldn't trade it. I think my next quad is going to be a King Quad 700/800 whichever they have now.
