I'm researching this problem for a friend. He has a 98C with the response trigger and the expansion chamber and the flatline. The gun fires fine... response trigger works great... flatline is nice... But the most annoying thing happens sometimes. Probably 1/100 shots will only recock partially. The hammer blows back and is caught by the sear, but the sear doesn't slide forward enough that pulling the trigger will release it. This is quite annoying as you're cutting loose on an opponent and then the gun just fails to fire. You have to pull the cocking knob back just a little further and then it will fire again. Any help on this one would be great. We've had it in to the pro-shop once and I've torn it apart several times... even stripped the valve apart twice. And yes it's reassembled correctly. :) *knock on wood* Thank you. |

I had the same ting happen to my A-5.
I think its because with the R.T it sometimes chokes the A-5 so it doesn't have quiet enough air to blow the hammer back. ...I really never discovered the problem, it kinda went away before I could find it. -------------

Could be an issue as well of the hopper not loading fast enough and the marker pinching a ball rather than chopping it in the chamber. That was normally the issue back when I was a tech. ------------- <Removed overly wide sig. Tsk, you know better.> |

Thanks for the tips. I'll have to check out both possibilities... Is there an easy way to isolate the problem? Perhaps by dissabling the RT for some tests? I'll have to try out an agitating hopper too. Thanks for the help. Any other ideas out there? |

Try without the expansion chamber. RT+ Expansion has been known to cause some choking. -------------

The same exact problem happens with my 98C, and I have no upgrades on it besides a rear velocity adjuster, so Im pretty sure it rules out the response trigger, expansion chamber, etc. Other 98C users Ive talked to have also complained about this too. Though it does happen every like 100 shots, its still really not acceptable because it does seem to happen in the worst of times. My gun is non-ACT, but Im still unsure if its chopping, I dont know. It just doesnt sound right... ------------- Indeedly |

I'm thinking you guys are just pinching rounds that haven't fully dropped. It's a fairly common occurrence if you don't have an agitated hopper.
Also, why, in the name of all that is holy, would you put an RVA on a '98? I mean, seriously. Messing around with spring tension is messing around with dwell time. ------------- <Removed overly wide sig. Tsk, you know better.> |

Hahah, thats what I said. I bought the 98 from a guy with the RVA already on it. Its a pain, always unscrews itself and messes with my velocity. I guess I may be chopping, it just sounds odd because Im not a fast shooter... most of the time. ------------- Indeedly |

well, if you aren't using an agitated hopper, sometimes the rounds will get hung-up against each other and won't drop even after just a few shots. It gets really annoying. Don't worry though, you probably aren't actually chopping as most '98's will hang up on a ball rather than chop it in half. See if you can't get it to reproduce the effect one of these days, and rather than pulling back on the hammer to fully engage the sear, see if there is a ball jamming the bolt by carefully depressing the front site and lowering the hopper elbow (make sure you don't lose your paint). ------------- <Removed overly wide sig. Great tip tallen! Thanks. I'll try that. I also took apart the entire expansion chamber and drilled all the holes one size larger. There was some thread lock goop gumming things up a bit... We'll see if that improves the situation any. Thanks for all the advice. |

*UPDATE* My buddy and I took his 98C out this weekend and it had the same recocking issue. This time we opened it up like tallen702 said and sure enough... There was a ball pinched in the chamber by the bolt. So, he's looking at a Q-loader. |

Wow, going Q-loader. Has he used one before? It's one of those things that you either love or hate. I personally suggest getting either a 12V Revvy or and empire Reloader II if you want something that will do the trick. You can always get more expensive loaders, but unless you plan on upgrading to a tourney-level marker down the road, it's a bit of a waste. ------------- <Removed overly wide sig. I almost got a qloader but the company has major problems. Pinching balls was a huge problem for my us-5 before I got my halo. The first one almost took my finger off when I tried to fix it by hand (didn't know that the marker was still cocked and halfway through firing) After that I started using sticks but ocasionally, I would find twig pieces in it during clean up at the end of the day. After that, I stopped being stubborn and bought a halo.

I had a problem with that 'till I got my Cyclone. Second to a barrel, best thing that you can put on a 98, IMHO. -------------
