Wanting any suggestions for the drop forward, atm its a bit.........GREEN!!!!! lol. So advice on what to do with it, I wanna keep it though as I like the drop it gives before anyone says get rid of it ------------- Well...Putfile deleted all my pictures so I don't have a signature atm! |

Cool milling, I definately like it.
I think an ebolt would complete it though. Like you thought though, I don't like the drop ------------- <just say no to unnecessarily sexualized sigs> |

Cheers guys, as for an ebolt it would be great only they are like gold dust in the UK and go for lotsa money when they do appear so just went with the WAS e-grip which aint bad and I may LPK it to make it a bit more like an ebolt but dont plan to for a while, if ever. But been thinking for the drop I may mist on a black layer of paint then go at it with a wire brush on a die grinder to create a distressed look between black/green/bare metal to match the dragged through a bush look of the rest of the gun? But the drop is needed just due to the long tendancies of 98's (been an inline design and all) so any suggestions would be highly welcome. I put the recievers in a normal clamp on its back in a vertical mill so the grip frame and front handle are pointing upwards. Then (after leveling the reciever) took off as much as I could with the mill but you cant get in behind the front grip so i then just put it in a normal vice and VERY slowly took away the remaining metal with an angle grinder then with many lengths of emory paper rounded the shape off. Using lengths of emory paper like people shine their shoes with a rag or drying your back with a towel (if people actually do dry their back like that lol) works very well as any high points will have more pressure applied to them and will be removed and it gives a very natural curve to the work. Unfortunately the pictures I thought I had are missing??? So ill describe, they are kinda like a normal drill press/pillar drill (whichever you like to call it) except a drill press can only work on one axis (up/down) a vertical mill can work on 3 (up/down, left/right, forward/backwards) so not only can you drill a hole you can then move the piece to the left and create a slot, if you move left and forward at the same time you get a diagonal slot. The type I have appears just like a very fancy drill press (and in essence is just about is) but I can also move the piece around to create the slots etc (just like when you are trying to bodge a hole bigger and press against the side of a drill bit and it goes bigger only the mill bits are designed to cut sideways as well). You can get kinda cheap ones (as I said they are a glorified drill press lol) or you can spend 1000's upon 1000's and there are types where the piece moves around the bit, or the bigger and costly ones make the entire drill bit move around the piece. But the simple ones when doing simple things are just as easy as a drill press to use, just take small slices off at a time and measure many many times and cut a few times only taking a bit off coz you can never get it back on :-) . Every knowledgeable wikipedia has a pretty good write up of them if ya fancy a read, they can be pretty extraordinary machines and can do all they fancy smooth milling work on the bodies of some guns, and I shall retrieve them pictures to show you the method of how I did mine once I can find the darn things :-) Hope this explains (lacking pictures) what you wanted to know and that it wasnt overly boring ------------- Well...Putfile deleted all my pictures so I don't have a signature atm! |
