I recently purchased the Tippmann C3, and was amazed that Tippmann
made no efforts to make the marker more upgradeable. It would not
have caused Tippmann to much trouble to have included a sight rail, like
on the 98, to mount optics. I love the C3, but the addition of a sight rail
would have given a lot more funcionality to the marker. Why did
Tippmann cripple the marker with the lack of upgradability?

Well, there's no sight rail as sights in paintball are virtually useless. The other thing to remember is that this marker was produced so that people living rural areas without access to decent paintball shops could grab a cannister of propane at the local Southern States and some paintballs from online or wherever and go play. This marker was never meant to be a main-stream item that would require a lot of work to keep it running or to improve it. It was made so it would shoot properly right out of the box and could be used by anyone regardless of where they live.

Also, this was only a "proof of concept" marker. Tippmann just produced the marker to see if the idea of propane power would catch on. It didn't so they aren't going to make any upgrades for it.

I agree that the C3 is a proof of concept marker, but I do not think the
sights are usless in paintball. I have a red-dot sight on my 98, and after I
sighted it in and made the neccasary adjustments, it proved to be a great
advantage in the field.

I'd love to go 1-on-1 with you sometime then, because by the time it takes for you to focus on the red-dot and find a target I've already snapped-to and dropped a hopper on you. It may not be flashy, it may not look all mil-agg, but once you know how your marker shoots, a red-dot is useless. If it actually worked, you'd see all the top teams using them, woodsball or speedball.

You should know how your marker fires instead of letting it do it for you.
