I am not a fan of gun oil. It doesnt seem to do the job all that well. I always end up over oiling the gun just to keep the parts lubed. I just dont like how it runs. Recently I have been using multipurpose grease in high movement areas, and still using oil on seals, and o rings. It makes my SL 68II smooth as butter. Put some on the barrel where the handle slides and around the valve. Am I stupid?

No, you aren't stupid for using it, but the issue with grease is that it traps dirt and metal particles much more readily which can accelerate unwanted wear. The other issue is temperature. Gun oil stays fluid even at very cold temperatures; grease however, does not. Instead of grease, I'd suggest using sparing amounts of Dow-33/shockerlube/sl33k/whatever the product of the day is.

I always clean my markers after play, cleaning any grease, I am trying to look for actual gun grease as well.

If you're wanting to try something that will give you good consistency in any weather I suggest grabbing a tube of DYE's SL33K lube. I use it on my older DMLCD/DM3 and it works wonders.

I also forgot to mention that some people use graphite on the rear bolt, but I wouldn't want to.

Oil your gun. If you have a 98 don't be afraid just open in an area where you have alot of room and can see small parts.

Unless stated otherwise, it's repackaged, repriced Dow 33.

carl,

It is actually over two years old.

showtime,

It is considered bad form to bump ancient posts.  A good rule of thumb is that if it hasn't been posted in for more than a few weeks then it should probably be left alone unless you have something significant to add.

Note:  Agreeing with something someone posted more than two years ago is not significant.  Do you actually think anyone who was in this thread back then is still excited about this issue?
