Hello,

I've been powder coating for a while now and noticed that Model 98s are one of the most common paintball guns people have done, so I wanted to share some pictures of markers that I have done.  Let me know what you think.

they look good, but i like the non-sparkled ones better though. i like the top 98, the blue.

i've never really known too much about it, but how hard is it to powder coat, and what exactly is involved?

There's a lot of prep work, the actual powder coating part is fairly simple.  The info page on my website gives a lot of information about the process.

Too bad you aren't in the Dallas area and could get me extremely good pricing on my rims.

Not bad. I would like to see some custom milling on the 98's though.

I would suggest taking the link out of your sig as it can be considered advertising.

If I'm asked to, I will.  I don't think they'll mind, its not a major corporation, its just me.  Plus I figured as soon as I delete it, someone would ask where to have it done.

Are you using a house oven for your business?

Posted By: Snake6
Date Posted: 21 December 2007 at 12:39pm
You probably wont be asked. It will most likely just be gone one day. And the no selling rule applies to everyone not just to major corporations.

You ever do higher end markers, or fades?

Yes, I do fades (special request only) and I have done a few ions and cockers nothing super high end.  No I don't use a house oven, although I did for my first year and it worked suprisingly well.

Black chrome is sexy. I was accually concidering having my Mag black chromed, but I would have went to a chrome shop first. Never knew you could get such shine out of powercoat.

Are the reflective finishes just as durable as regular powercoats?

And btw, I dont think mods will care unless you start posting ads and stuff like that.

Yes, they are all the same type of powder and provide a very durable finish.

the black chrome is sweet, if i had the money i would have someone do it in black chrome, but i think camo would be more useful, i only play woods and some scenario, but only woods. Honestly, i hate speedball, xball, superball w/e its all called lol. but yea, sweet paint jobs.

Thanks for all the feedback guys!  I personally like the candy colors the most, but all my friends seem to like the black chrome as well.  I would honestly like to know if you guys think my prices are reasonable/ridiculous, because I really wasn't sure what to charge.  Its a pretty labor intensive process to do it properly.

Yeah, the price for the removal is inflated due to the time, not the materials.  Plus I always get chemical burns .  But I think I will lower it.

A professional Powder coat company near me said to get my rims p/c, it would cost about $80-90 each. So you could base your prices of that. Your prices look a little cheap.

I find powdercoat tends to make the guns look like "toys" I'm diggin' the black chrome though, i've never even heard of that until now.

Its not static.  Those are the reflective particles in "shimmer" powder coat.  If you ever seen a candy flake painted car or bike, it looks like that.

ah powder coated 98s bring back good memories. On my first 98 I had a near chrome base with a gorgeous blue top coat. Some people on here may remember it. This is the only picture I have left of it. Miss that thing.

Any Tippmann is gonna be the most common for powder coating because they won't take anodizing evenly.

You have any color that may come close to matching this gold? I have a few car parts I'd like to match it, and I might have another 98c that I may be getting that maybe I'd like to do it the same color as well.

Very true.  But that doesn't mean that its limited to Tippmanns.  Just as there are certain effects you can only get with anodizing, there are also certain effects you can only get with powder coating.  I've been getting more and more high end guns.  I'm guessing just because people want something different, or it could be due to association with the automotive industry.

@ Alx2785 : its very hard for me to match a color without seeing it in person.  This is due to differences in computer monitors, brightness/contrast, etc.  But I can promise to get close.
