Might wanna check on that if you're waiting...

I don't get hardcopies of anything. If I need it on paper... I have to print it right from MyPay.

Could very well be that you'll still get it in the mail... but if you're in a hurry to get that refund (if applicable), might want to just print it right from MyPay.

you dont need your W2, you can pull ALL the info you need off your LES to file taxes. Ive done it a few times when I was on float or bouncing from DET to DET and mail couldnt keep up.

Thank God for allotments to cover important bills ( Car / insurance / creditcards / loans ) because there was times out and about I recieved mail 3-4 weeks after it was sent and would have been screwed paying bills. And we ( Marines ) all know how CO's feel about Marines who miss payments and creditors call unit....*ahem* NJP

I'm trying to figure that out myself, because they are shorting me about 10 weeks.

Where did those 2 and a half months go, the Bermuda Triangle?

Evil, in the close to 13 weeks I was there, I made only about $1,200.

But hey, let them keep ragging on an injury sustained going for military service, because we all know who joined, who has not, and who is re-upping...

Hell, many people join because the courts give them a choice between jail and the military.

Like I said, no speculations. You assumed that I meant prior service is better then no prior service in that sentence, when in fact I just said who joined, has not, and who is re-enlisting.

Not to get all nit-picky here...  I am going on what your words say.  Those words are exactly what somebody with a military-superiority complex would write.  Therefore, for all practical purposes, you said that military folks are superior.

Whether you were thinking something else as you were typing, I cannot say, but as to what you ACTUALLY typed, there is little doubt.

If in fact you did not mean to state that military folks are superior, then you need to proofread more carefully, because that is what you are writing.

Linus, get off your high horse. When people are ragging on you, it's cause you're being stupid, and you're wrong. But that doesn't seem to matter, since you seem to be above admitting fault.

doesn't enlisted get a uniform bonus once a year or so for new uniforms? i don't know how much it would be, but doesn't it help out a little more than that?

i found out recently (conviently) that the new ACU's like to tear easily and officers only get one uniform allowance when we graduate/commission from ROTC

Yes we do, on the anniversary month of your ADSD (Active Duty Service Date). Mine was only $136, but the amount you receive depends on rank I believe. If you are E-7 and above or an Officer, your uniform allowance goes up quite a bit I hear.

really? we all (the cadets) were told we get one uniform allowance, and that's when we graduate and commission. and i heard it blows. we still get food/housing allowance but not uniform. i could be wrong, but thats what the good colonel told us.

well it doesn't end there...there's plenty of things that soldiers/marines have to pay for that a lot of people don't realize. i don't know if its still in effect or not, but i remember talking to someone who was in the army who said they had to pay for food in the mess hall.

Maybe, or maybe because it sounded like something you'd obviously say until you realized someone would nail you for it. This is all up for interpretation.

Your absolutely right Linus. I felt the need to fabricate a situation where you thought you were better than other people because you tried to become a soldier because it's never happened before. You saw right through me...

Well if I would have gotten in on time I could have quoted Linus's last message about USA trying to make him look like a douche. Obviously he know's where the delete button is.

Which really adds no credibility to my side.

This is my new favorite thread. It's hilarious that someone is lying to either attack someone else or to keep from being called out. We need to get detectives on this case immediately.

If the mods had the ability to see what post got deleted, then it'd be done with pretty fast.

That's exactly right. Both of the ones you deleted in this thread.  Maybe they can check an IP log or something.

Not that it really matters. Everyone knows you already THINK you are superior to others because you tried to join the military. Regardless of whether or not you want to keep back pedaling.

Point?

If i were truly pathetic enough to try and drive someone away from the internet, I DO truly regret to inform you that you wouldn't even be my first choice of victims. Now, I know that it's hard to believe that you aren't so all-encompassing and important that everyone doesn't have a life revolving around ruining your e-reputation that you seem so concerned with, but guess what...

No.

It's not at all funny that one of the two is actually lying about something so insignificant as this? With as boring as the forum has been lately, I hardly find it immature to enjoy bickering at the thought of someone actually going out of their way to either make something up or not man up to what he said.

That, or you're obviously missing the sarcasm.

I'm not sure where pointing out this situation is belittling any one person, but you have your opinion. Linus is one of the few on the forum I actually give a hard time to, as if you don't? As for proving points, that's part of debate, and if I didn't want to look as if I was proficient or correct in a specific topic, that seems counterproductive. I actually visit the forum all the time, but I pick and choose what debates to enter, usually political.

if you are in the Marines, or were in the Marines all people should bow down to you, how is that for military superiority complex miss storm?.... (sarcasm alert)

but seriously.

i am pretty sure we do pay for food. not a whole lot, but some money does come out of our pay. a lot of things we pay for we never see because they just take it from the pay prior to us getting paid so we dont really realize it.

we do get uniform money. its called uniform allowance. infantry guys usually spend more than the allowance, thus use their own money because our uniforms get ripped up awfully fast. not saying other guys dont have that problem, i know i do. but this is all for active duty.

reserve side, we only pay for uniforms that we are issued in bootcamp. any uniform, such as my desert cammies, or woodland cammies, that i had issued at bootcamp, if they become unserviceable (such as, big rips, cant sew shut) then i can turn them in and the Marine Corps. specifically my unit, buys me a new pair. if i was active duty, i would pay with my own money.

my biggest complaint is boots. i wear a 9 4E in boots. thats size 9, with really really wide feet. none of the boots we are issued come in that size. i need to go and buy danner boots because that is the only company that makes authorized Marine Corps. boots in my size. thats slightly less than $200 out of my pocket because the cheaper issued boots dont come in my size.

Kris, you pay for food on active duty.
You have one of two choices depending on where you are. The first choice is that eat at the chow hall, in that case your $275 a month for comrats is taken away from you and given to the chow hall. The second choice you have is that you choose not to eat at the chow hall, and you are given $275 a month to eat on. Either way you pay.

Personally I like having comrats, because I can live off of alot less than $275 a month for food.

Getting uniform items on active duty sucks. I get about $300 a year for uniform items, and I spent close to $1000 on different uniforms. Cammies cost about the same as ACU's, and I wore out four sets last year, and five pairs of boots. For those of you who do don't know, once a uniform has a hole in it larger in diameter than a dime, it is considered unserviceable. Once a set of boots is missing a eyelet, or the emblem on the side is partially worn away the boots are considered unserviceable. Besides teh cammies and boots, I had to purchase a set of dress blues last year. Those alone cost close to $400, as we are not issued blues in boot camp.

A question...

In America, rotp is for reserve officers right?

Posted By: Linus
Date Posted: 10 January 2008 at 5:54pm
We have ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps), and it's more for students, while OCS (Officer Canidate School)is to get a direct commission to 2nd LT.

ROTC.

It's a pre-OTS or enlistment "major" in colleges.

Ahh.

In Canada, we have regular officer traning plan (rotp) and reserve entry training plan (RETP)

our reserve offices i believe can go to OCS if they are currently in the reserves and are planning on becoming an officer. of PLC(platoon leaders course)

haha, i didnt know that about boots, half of my unit officially has unserviceable boots. theirs are faded from iraq.

ROTC is the reserve officer training corp, you can either be a student out of hs or we even have some reserve people in it too, so they can get their college degree at the same time. right now we dont pay any allowances, we get everything issued and when we graduate we turn everything in. i go to a regular college campus, so anything i pay is anything like books or food. the army pays for my tuition, books, and gives me a monthly allowance on top of that for staying in the program. they also pay for my room, but the only thing they dont pay for is food.
you could go in enlisted and go to ocs, but with rotc you have the oppotunity to get your degree as well. both have their benefits, niether is for everyone, it depends on your personal goals in life and the military.

Carl: Regarding getting boned, no, most of that doesn't happen here.

you are issued all your kit at no cost to yourself. Included is three sets of combat uniforms, and before too long an initial issue of dress uniform. Every year you get a certain quantity of 'points' with which to order new dress uniform kit. You'll almost never use even close to all of those points.

If you tear a set of combats, bring 'em in to the quartermaster's clothing stores nearest to you, and they'll get replaced. If you lose something (personal clothing wise, anything that's not serialized), you fill out a miscellaneous kit loss report, and you may or may not have to pay for it at cost.

When on course, your food and lodging is paid for. If you're in the regular force and posted to a base or unit, generally you pay for your accommodations and meals, but (for the most part- and this is where I avoid getting into a highly bitter rant about my current situation) they are of pretty decent quality. I know noncommissioned junior ranks pay something like $3 or $400 a month to live in a two person room on a meal plan. Under some circumstances you may be employed in a place where lodging and meals are paid for by the army (like me right now- but again, there's a huge degree of bitterness associated with this).

We're also quite well paid, but you've probably researched that already- arguably the best paid in the world, actually.

Quit bragging.  It's easy to pay a military well when the total manpower numbers is in the single digit range.

Yes, quite well paid. Especially officers.

90k after 5 years of being trained sounds more than decent to me.

So my application to rmc is in by the way. I'm a little mad because my current grade 12 marks are higher than my marks last year and last year's are the only ones that matter. (They still should be high enough though).

I have my interview/aptitude test/medical early february.

So do you know if there is a physical test before I am accepted or is it just the basic training test? Also, how is the aptitude test? From what I read, there are a lot of cases where people with high marks in school are failing it.

The dollar's pretty much at par- so that $1400 I get after tax and deductions every two weeks looks pretty good.

Too bad we don't get much (if any) of a chance to go off base when we're down in Ft. Bliss next month...

EDIT TO ADD: Carl, you'll only make that much cash if you get picked up for a specialty like pilot. 'Normal' officers make about $66k after five years.
