Ammo you have obviously never heard blown speakers, anyways so far
installing drivers sounds like the best idea. Other than that, could it be a
sound card? I don't know not really familiar with your laptop, what
brand/model do you have?

Sounds like the system buzzer is working and the drivers are corrupted.  Reinstalling them should fix it.
