Don't get me involved in that computer crap. I don't know anything about it. I don't care anything about it.

Logic says thin and flat = delicate. Experience says the same thing.

Thats pretty sweet, good to see someone pushing the envelope with laptops.

3 pounds and under an inch thick is win, and I'm not a mac fanboy.

I wouldn't pay the 3000 price tag though.

the 3000 price tag is just for the one with the SSD.  for 1700 you can get the 80gb HD model

But then you've still put out a ton of money for something with little hard drive space.

Basically, you are paying a lot of money for something that is just prettier.

That's what everybody was saying when the Nano first came out.
Apple has done a wonderful job creating tiny products without sacrificing
durability and I'm sure the Air will be no different.

Exactly, it is a sub notbook, it isn't supposed to be some hard core machine,
it is supposed to be used for surfing the internet. Also lots of laptops come
with an 80gig hard drive, so any argument about it being a small hard drive
IMO is pointless.

Externally storing it or something.

Ahh but then you are spending even more money to get rid of all that portability and low weight that you paid all that extra money for in the first place...

And yes, 80 gigs is small.

I agree with carl. For the price tag, I'd like so more major features rather than just pretty looks and light weight.

Negative. My HP Tablet has been dropped out the door of an Expedition (about 5 feet off the ground) onto the street. No damages. I've also seen numerous people drop their's off desks, drop them in hallways, and they've survived.

Although I've gotta give Apple credit for making a laptop so thin. It would be real nice for just casual web surfing and document typing around the house, but who in their right mind would pay that kinda money for a casual household laptop? Of course, there are tons of those people.

I think it's kinda dumb. My MBP is right about an inch thin and is a lot more powerful and even has an optical drive. For .24in less, you lose your optical drive, half your HD space, video card, lots of ports/expresscard slot, and some clock speed. Meh.

No. I buy them primarily because they are cheap, easy to find, and I can buy about 5 of them for the price of a shirt thats already ripped up, frayed, whatever it is that they do to their shirts and jeans. It addition to a great price, they are also decent looking, and you can wear them as casual shirts, workout shirts, work shirts, etc. No need to worry about ruining any shirts.

80 GB hard disc is a nice sized hard drive for a laptop. After all, a laptop is supposed to be your second, portable computer. The HDD in a laptop computer is much more likely to be dropped, stolen, die from overheating, etc than the hard drive that is tucked safely in your computer tower sitting stationary on a desk. With technology like VPN becoming more and more used with the availability of free high speed internet, you can easily access your file library quickly and securely almost anywhere you can take your laptop.

I actually like the solid state hard drive idea...I know it's expensive, but that eliminates all the problems that you get with having a portable computer containing a fragile hard drive.

80gb in a normal laptop is pretty crappy for today's laptops. Now, in a thin laptop like the air, it isn't as bad, capacity wise. But I think you are all missing the real reason the hard drive in it fails, "80GB 4200-rpm Parallel ATA hard disk drive." Slow, old technology.

/insert Mac innovation joke

Yeah, it is nice to see them offering solid state drives, but a P-ATA hard drive in such an "advanced" laptop?

80 GB of memory would be God's own computer. Hard drive space is storage. RAM is the machine's memory.

Laptops aren't built for gaming. Processors for mobile computing is designed to offer reasonable performance, while using the least amount of power, and generate the least amount of heat possible. Modern PC games require strong processors, not to mention the graphics processors. A desktop PC is much better suited for that task than even the highest end laptops.

Carl, I am not simply bickering with you for web forum superiority. You can buy a notebook computer with a processor and graphics card that is up to snuff to run the current batch of popular games, but you will spend a TON of money. Yes, you are right. It can be done. But anything that taxes your system resources (like PC gaming) is far better done on a desktop PC, where the current architecture supports the processing and graphics requirements.

The 4200RPM's is more of a hindrance than the P-ATA interface...

I suspect it's been spec'd that way for power requirements.  Not a lot of battery room in there I suspect...

can buy a notebook computer with a processor and graphics card that is
up to snuff to run the current batch of popular games, but you will spend
a TON of money. Yes, you are right. It can be done. But anything that
taxes your system resources (like PC gaming) is far better done on a
desktop PC, where the current architecture supports the processing and
graphics requirements.

Oh definately, and I never said it would be a good idea but it could
definately be done.

I would personally never spend the money on any computer that couldn't
play the newest games and all games 1-2 years down the road.

I'd rather have something windows based and thicker. I'm sure its nice, but if I had a laptop I would want one of those super durable yellow/black ones that I saw people beating up on commercials a while back. Spending a butt-load of money on something and relying on it every day carrying it around means I need it to last.

And as for windows based, I'm used to windows and thats why. I dont need the uber 1337 powers of a mac, and windows works fine. Accually, I am using a Mac right now in school and it isn't bad, so dont call me a "Mac Hater".

Although the mouse sucks.

carl, you dont really understand what its for.  its not for uber 1337 WoW frames or to be used as a backup for all data ever.  it was built to be a very light, easily portable laptop.  In that purpose, i think it will serve nicely.

Exactly, if I were an english or communications student, the air would be calling to me. In the tech program I'm in, I know it's not aimed at me.

That's what everybody was saying when the Nano first came out.
Apple has done a wonderful job creating tiny products without sacrificing
durability and I'm sure the Air will be no different.

My 2nd gen Nano is pretty safely constructed I would say. But I still get a little paranoid.

Well, technically yes. It depends on your question, does it have to be on os x? You technically CAN play games emulated on os x. I've played CS:S and TF2 on osx. If you're speaking strictly in terms of using that physical computer, then you can use bootcamp and run xp natively to play it.

Now, in terms of hardware, I don't know the specs on crysis, I just know they're nuts.

Specs on crysis aren't that bad. It probably has the largest demand from any game released last year but that will be replaced quickly.

Or should I just build a laptop that is equal/better than a macbook for less money?
