I watched a few minutes of me and it was some what above my head. I'm sure if I focused more I could get a better understanding, but I'm rolling out soon...plus I just don't feel like it. Speaking of math, I took my Alg II midterm earlier. Meh, was alright. Completely bombed my Chem midterm after it though. ------------- |

I will probably never use Calculus directly at least, but many concepts in the health sciences are derived from calculus, and it sometimes helps to know where things come from. I don't remember much from calc anymore, but I have an appreciation for that kind of thing.

calculus is neat... but even me, who's good at math, couldn't learn from this guy. too fast... and just seems to throw the rules out there w/o showing examples. |

If you ever go to sniper school you will need calculus. You won't like it, but you will need it. So some people in the military, actually do need "real life" skills. Even if those skills include the most efficient means of taking one. ------------- RLTW |

So do calculus and physics go hand in hand? I rock at physics. My teacher wants me to do something with my life dealing with physics because I find it so easy. Physics is my highest grade for core classes. Calculus is my lowest grade for a core class. |

| Once I took Calculus this year, and then Physics later on in the day, I just love math. I've always been good at it, but never really liked it (more like hated it) but I guess that was just preparation to learn the interesting stuff. |

Exactly... all the algebra and crap that you were taught for 3 years or whatever actually just takes a backseat in calculus classes. In fact all that algebra is good for is making a calculus problem look good to help you solve it. The best tests are the ones that involve almost no numbers... besides the ones in front of variables... which often times were no larger than 9. physics on the other hand... ugh... I hate it. I'm the kind of kid that can derive and integrate circles around people when i'm on top of my game... but to actually apply it in a physics class, I can't do that to save my life. Statics was the class that made me run away from the engineering school i was in.... that and the 19 page lab report confirming Ohm's law. |

Bingo. Real math begins with calculus. Everything prior to that (with the possible exception of geometry) is just warmup exercises.

that'll do it.... i was forced into a stats for health professions class... it had nothing to do with the health care field, but it was just a watered down version of the real statistics classes. I took ap stats in hs anyway too, so it helped that 75% of the class was stuff i've learned. this semester should be fairly easy for me though... except for my 9am 500 level biochemistry class. yuck. |

If anything even somewhat about the maths comes up in something I have to do, I usually get the copy editors to do it/check it all for me. It is sad, I know. I am not proud of it, but math just does not click in my noggin. -------------

On another note, new classes started today. I walked into AP calc BC and got hit with parametric and polar equations, fun! Then the next period I went to AP Physics B and got hit with more parametric equations and more advanced kinematics! Then I walk into Civil Engineering and we're back to geometry. Kind of anticlimactic. And more directed towards whale, my calc teacher sees it as a huge fault to not know calculus and English. We have to wright essays for him, partially related to calculus, once of twice a month, and they get graded by him and the AP English teacher. Last semester we had to write a paper on why it is important to be able to write well and do calculus. Needless to say, I've yet to get above an 80 on any essays. ------------- Suck, sqeeze, bang, blow, and GO!

I'm in high school calculus now, and it's getting very annoying knowing the easy way of taking derivatives, but instead being forced to use first principles, lest I fail. I understand why we need to know it, but now that I've demonstrated I do, I really hate having to spend the time

Same, I'm planning on majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
