Hi all my name is James and I just bought a Tippmann A5 4 days ago, I have allways wanted to get into the paintball spirit and fianlly bit the bullet. Anyway I have already put a browning red dot site on it which so far I am finding useless, because I don't use it. I have found that paintballs aren't that accurate. I will be going to gander mountain today becuase the have a flatline barrel, and the e grip for the marker. I have probablly a really dumb question to ask and that is will the x7 egrip fit my gun, I like how it has an external switch. I will also be gong to dick's sporting goods today as they have a 68ci 3500psi tank I want for $70. As of right now I just play in the woods with some friends and I am loving it.  Any advice for a noob would be greatly appreciated.

It may be cheaper if you check out sites on the internet.

  http://www.countysports.com - www.countysports.com http://www.pbgear.com - www.pbgear.com

Those are just some cheap, good online stores.  Check out their prices before dumping a ton of money somewhere else.  If you like the flatline, maybe you should check out the BT Apex barrel.  It's like a flatline, but you can adjust it to curve the ball different ways.  Just something to look into.  I'm not sure about the X7 E-Grip.  Someone else will have to help you there.  Good luck with upgrading your marker, and welcome to paintball.

I like the Flatline (F/L) barrel, however I never recommend it for new players.  I also suggest that it not be someone's first after-market barrel.  It is a great tool for providing suppressive fire at extreme range.  It is not suitable for all situations.  Many people find they don't like backspin barrels once they get one.  It will not provide one shot-one kill capability.  The F/L makes a great alternate barrel for use in certain situations but for a primary barrel I suggest the J&J Ceramic or Lapco Bigshot.

I also suggest you browse some of the information available on the forum before making any purchases.  You will find posts on this and much more throughout the forum.

Thanks for the info so far, the only reason I wanted the flatline is supposedly its good for high brush areas. Where we play in the woods there is a huge variety of cover there are areas with allot of brush, areas with spread out trees which is what I like the best and then there is areas with small open fields which I also like. Most of the play we do it is hard to get the shot to the other person, and from what I have read the flatline and apex both are supposed to help with that. I have been browsing this site every since like 5 min after I got the gun and have found allot of information on it. I am into the performance upgrade rather than the cosmetics, and love how the A5 actually feels like I am carrying something around.

I used the flatline for a while but prefer a straight barrel personally.  I only play in the woods and scenario style.  It kind of depends if you want more accuracy or distance.  the flatline gives more distance but sacrifices accuracy. If you decide to go for a straight barrel get a J&J or a Lapco.  For the price of a flatline you can even get the J&J kit (Edge Elite) to have all of the bore sizes so you can use any paint with no problems.  Also you may want to save up for a 68/4500.  More shots (especially with the A5).  It will also be lighter if you get the carbon fiber (the 4500) and will be much more comfortable for you.

Good tank at a good price.

Well if you decide you want accuracy more than range, I've got a 12" Lapco Bigshot and love it.  It looks awesome, and it's dead accurate even with crappy paint.

Well I am going with your guys advice 1- I don't need distance but more accuracy. 2- the flatline is extremely ugly and expensive. I seen the j&j kit for about the same price and it's a sexy barrel. The tank I am definately saving up for the bigger one in a fiber wrap because the aluminun, one weighs a ton. Why exactly does the A5 use so much freggin air because I went through a 20oz  co2 tank in under 200 shots. The temp was ~60 degrees so I know that is part of the problem. Is the egrip worth the money for woodsball? I know I like to make my shots count, so I shouldn't need 20bps. How long of a barrel is optimun for the j&j  I have read on here anything over 12" is useless. I just need to decide on a barrel then I will order it and hopefully be able to try it out next weekend.

This is the barrel I am leaning to, I like it allot. I'm not sure I wanna pay 120 for a 3 round burst because that all I wanted out of the egrip. I still need to find a tank carbon wraped and big because I am going through 3 20oz co2 tanks everytime I play which has been everyday now.

Any help at all is useful like I said I have only had it for 5 days now, I really hope the barrel kit will be nice and I won't regret it later on. I wish I could find a used egrip or something some where. I hope the barrel kit will quiet it down some because my stock barrel is loud.  I am going to have a big mess by the time I am done but hopefully it will shoot good. Thats why I asked for everyones help, I figure from what I have read there allot of useful people on this site, thats why I chose it.

So here is my big plan for my marker not in order

1) Polish the internals easy to do and almost free

2) HPA tank bigger is better for me

3) Ratchet mod for the cyclone

4) e-grip even though I don't need it but it will be sweet

5) Off set hopper for the cyclone so I can get the red dot set up right

6) J & J barrel kit

7) A good aluminum power tube

8) The full vortex mod

9) QEPH mod

10) the double trigger for egrip

I shouldn't need an expansion chamber if I use HPA, correct? Anyway I now this is gonna take some time and money but hey what else do I got to do. This is just like modding my truck but allot easier and cheaper in my mind. I know I don't need half this stuff but to be perfectlt honest I can't stand plastic parts.

1. It helps a little

2. Unless you go remote don't go too big.  The A5 doesnt use as much as alot of ppl think.  I have an 88 and 91 but use a remote.  without it i wouldnt go above 70-72

3. unless you need to go above 15 bps you dont need this.  i limited my egrip to 11 bps and have never had a problem

4.it is sweet

5. I reccommend the X7 hopper.  it fits the A5 but is lower and offset.  Plus its only 8 bucks.

6. Good choice I love mine

7.  Not necessary.  I still have the stock one.

8. Same as answer # 3 since they are the same thing.

9.  Dont need unless you get the above (from 8)

10.  Stick with the single for a while.  Alot of double triggers end up slowing down the egrip.

No you do not need an expansion chamber for HPA.  Just make sure you get high pressure tank.  If you cant stand plastic then go for it but you really dont need them neccessarily.

you're going to waste a lot of $ unnessesarily going for all those mods on
your a-5 all you really need is a good accurate (short) barrel a good
sized tank ( a 72 ci 4500 psi tank will give the a5 about 1080 shots) but
woodsballer beware n2/hpa is much harder to get fills for so don't scrap
your co2 tanks just yet. I also suggest you get a remote with a slide
check it reduces your gun profile when belly crawling with your air off the
gun and I also suggest a good stock that you can get your head over to
look down the sight I have an aluminum mp5 sliding stock I love it. Other
than that spend your money on concealment and protection ie: mask
camo, chest protector (woodsball isn't so much about the marker but
strategy and stealth) hope you found this useful. Pm me with any
questions you have. Sorry if the format of this post looks screwy I sent it
from my iPod

Oh I got the camo taken care of I am a big hunter so I have allot of camo. Where did you get your aluminum sliding stock because thats what I want. As far as the HPA dark aemies paintball is open 24hrs and they do fills there, its 5 min from my house. I am going to to keep co2 for back ups also. With a remote what do you do just carry the tank in a back pack or something? I ordered my barrel last night I got the J&J elite package for $82. Here is the link for it.

Yea I use a vest and it carries my extra pods as well.  They also make packs for it that just go around the waist.  It comes down to personal preferrence really.  As for the MP5 Stock here is a link for one.

http://www.opsgear.com/Tippmann-A5-Sliding-Stock-MP5-p/mi-stock-mp5-slide-a5.htm - http://www.opsgear.com/Tippmann-A5-Sliding-Stock-MP5-p/mi-st ock-mp5-slide-a5.htm

You may be able to find it somewhere else for less but it will probably be around that price everywhere since it is aluminum.

*Edit: Good find on the barrel kit too.  Just remember to match the bore size of the paintballs to the correct backs.*

I just wear a camo jumpsuit, camo gloves, and my camo mask. I am not one for the vest but I did get my gf one, should I get a cup? So for woodsball you want as little of a target as possible and still beable to have all your stuff on you and move freely right? I will probably just get the belt, then because I do allot of crawling, so I don't want anything on the front of me. I can't wait for my barrel to get here, how much quieter will it be it looks like there is porting about half way down the barrel. We are going to go play in a little while and I will get to use some of this advice on my roommates who tend to team up on me because they think I have the better marker. Thanks for all the advice guys and I will keep you updated on my progress, with the marker and my learning experiance.

I only use the vest for the pod holders and tank pouch I got my sliding
stock at usmilitarygear.com for $120 you can find them for less but mine
is tactical quality (I broke 2 $60 dollar sliding stocks before I found this
one) no problems with it yet. You're very lucky to have hpa fills so close
to home I have to travel 40 minutes to the closest field while co2 is 3
mins away.

I was just looking at remote lines and all I can find is 3000 psi rated lines, Is there a better line out there somewhere? Also what is the differance between a regular quick disconnect line and a slide check line. I found a belt I will probably use its a 6+1 and I would wear it on my back probably. The remote line will work like an expansion chamber until I get my HPA tank right? Do I need to buy a 3000psi rated tank since the line is only rated to 3k psi?

Posted By: roamingrican
Date Posted: 02 February 2008 at 1:58pm
The slide check allows you to cut off the air to the marker at the quick
disconnect so you can detach your gun without having someone turn off
your tank I have broad shoulders and cannot reach my valve without
taking off my vest and in respect to your other question remote lines are
rated at half of their minimum burst pressure so a 3000 psi remote needs
at least 6000 psi to burst. I cannot recommend using a 3000 psi remote
with a 4500 psi tank. all I can tell you is that I do.

Well I was thinking about the remote lines and the output pressure of most HPA tanks is 800psi that is well below 3k psi. I just had a mind lapse in the car and realized the line doesnt hold 4500psi  the tanks does. If I am wrong could someone correct me before I make a deadly mistake. I ended up getting a small back pack with plenty of room to carry all my gear, hold my tank extra pods, and it also has a camel bladder in it so I wont be thirsty.  We did not get to go play today but I did get some accessories like my remote line with a 3k psi rating, a backpack with the camel bladder. Extra pods, and yet another co2 tank.I know a back pack is not easy access but I think it will work out for me.

Posted By: Mack
Date Posted: 02 February 2008 at 5:59pm
jwhitten, you are correct.  A 3000 psi remote line will be fine with a 4500 psi tank because the regulated delivery pressure for HPA is between 800 to 900 psi and LPA is approximately half of that.  In the case of a regulator failure, the burst disk on the tank is designed to empty the tank so for you to actually put 4500 psi into the remote line two systems would have to fail simultaneously.

Go to http://www.pbnation.com - www.pbnation.com and look for a used E-Grip.  I believe I heard of Raion selling E-Grips, but I don't remember if they'd work with the A-5 or not.  You should deffinetly check out a used one though, since you aren't too happy with the hefty price tag.

Posted By: ammolord
Date Posted: 03 February 2008 at 3:27pm
eh, you realy dont need a e-grip for woodsball. its more of a want thing. the stock trigger works perfect for playing in the woods becouse its low matiance (SP??). the only problem buying a used e-grip is that it might not work. i would get a stock and some kind of red dot right.

I use a response trigger w/ a super r/t mid dialed back to 16 bps and I
love it and the best part is its still semi auto so its legal on more fields
than the e-grip I also have a double trigger which I really wouldn't use
with the e grip but I play all woodsball and I use the response more often
than you would think.

Is the response trigger worth it? I hear allot about it but I am not real sure what it does I am assuming it uses air pressure to reset the trigger. I got my bag all set up today I cut up some old long johns  and sewed them into the bag to keep my tanks and pods from moving. I guess I got the remote line without the slide check is there anyplace that sells just the check valve?

Um, you are wrong. The E-Grip is legal no more fields than the R/T. The R/T is considered full auto on most fields, and in all tournaments. If a field/tournament  doesn't allow full auto the R/T will not be allowed. The E-Grip's full auto can be turned off with tournament lock, so it is allowed on fields where the R/T is not.

The r/t's can be disabled by removing the external fittings and hose then plugging the hole in the valve with the provided screw.

Mack, true but it defeats the purpose then. With an E-Grip even if you are shooting semi you still have a advantage over stock because you can walk the trigger. That was my point.

all of the fields around me know that the r/t is semi auto meaning one
ball per trigger pull and I never have to dismantle my trigger while my
friend with the egrip has to shut his off at two of the four fields we use

You can find 98 E-Grips used around $20. If you feel like modding you can go that route.

Your fields are not the norm. For the rest of the world, it is the exact opposite.
