I too could not be happier than the Patriots and Brady lost. I hate them with a deep passion. And yeah, Eli's escape play was awesome. Despite being sick and light headed, there were a couple times I was jumping off the couch and screaming when the Giants made some big plays.
And what was up with the end of the game? There was still 1 second (I thought it should have been 2 seconds), but everyone ran on to the field, and then had to be taken off to run the last play.

I'll have to admit, that this season was really the first I started getting into pro football alltogether. My brother, a huge giants fan, sort of lured me into following his team back when it didn't look like they were even going to make the post season. For me, it wasn't anything new to root for an underdog team, hell I'm a Baltimore Orioles fan.
It just worked out that the team I started following ended up winning the superbowl this year. I got a deep sigh from my wife yesterday evening when I told her I couldn't wait to see what happened next season.

well this was the first super bowl i actually watched with the pats playing. i am not a fan, but being from massachusetts, you still want to see them win. i could have cared less if they had lost if they werent undefeated prior to the super bowl. but it would have been nice to see the history they would have made if they won. otherwise, meh. its just football.

Go watch the pro's hit the ball 350+ yards, or stick it right next to the hole from 200 yards out and tell me it's not sweet.
One of the main reasons I like golf is because you are playing against yourself/the course, and not other people.
Anyone can smash someone into the boards... it takes a lot more finesse to roll in a 25 foot putt that breaks 3 feet left and is 2 feet downhill, or to hit a ball out of 6-inch deep rough from close to the green.

Exactly the reason why I prefer other sports with direct competition. Anyone can play their game when nobody is bothering them... it takes a lot more skill and mental toughness to play your game when somebody else is actively trying to interfere with you.

Golf would be quite the interesting sport if you could get tackled and/or checked while hitting the ball, wouldn't it?
I can see how people find golf boring to watch, but I can assure you, it takes quite some talent to actually be "good" at golf.
Try to make that 5-footer when you know it's for the Masters, Tiger is staring you down, and the whole world is watching on TV. All that pressure adds up a lot more when finesse is required rather than brute force.
Other sports you can use adrenaline; in golf, you have to control it and keep a level head..

As a golfer (of sorts) myself, I will not disparage the skill required. I simply note that, as you pointed out, you are not really competing "against" anybody at all. And to me the central enjoyment of actual sports (as compared to painting, playing the piano, and other solo activities) is the aspect of direct competition. I am going to stop you from winning, and you are welcome to try to stop me. Any sporting activity without that heads-on aspect is missing something very central, IMO, and will therefore always be inferior (as to sports).

For any sport to be ">*" it has to involve, at a minimum, each of the following criteria:
1. Significant physical exertion. Sweating must occur.
2. Reasonable amounts of pain on a routine basis. If you can have gain without pain, that is no good.
3. There must be real chance of injury. If your sport is safe, you aren't trying hard enough.
4. There must be direct heads-on competition. Side-by-side sports need not apply.
Of those, baseball only meets #4. Maybe #3. Maybe. Thus baseball is not >*.

it is declared a sport when you must practice over and over and over and over and over again. you practice consistancy and strategy. you don't have to sweat. i would bust my ass throughout an basketball game and hardly sweat - cuz i just don't really sweat, even while i'm properly hydrated.
look at golf, bowling, car racing and that. those are considered sports. you can't just jump in and do it and call it a "hobby" it's a sport.

Baseball is not a sport, it is a skill. That goes for Golf, Darts, Bowling, basketball, Snooker, Billiards, Swimming, figure skating, and breakdancing and anything else where you are not competing against people who are actively trying to get to you. I would lump soccer into skill, but it can be a real rough sport if you know how to play it right.
And for the people who say "anyone can smash someone into the boards/ tackle/ play lacrosse/ boxe...etc", have you ever tried these things? I highly doubt a golfer you do much good criticizing real sports on they're lack of finesse.

I hate the Pats purely because I bleed Jet green and hate all that has gone into the formation of the Pats Dynasty team.
