HPA is almost always better. More consistant, it is not affected by heat or cold. It always has the exact same output pressure, so there is no velocity spikes. The downfall is the price. If you can afford HPA, get it. -------------

I have checked several threads and from what I can figure out, if I want to be able to play in 30degree weather, I need to switch to HPA at least until it warms up. Since I am in Ohio, that may be awhile. Anyways, my main question is since I am most likely going to switch back and forth between HPA and CO2, so I need to take the expansion chamber off? I realize that it will not add any performance with HPA, but will it cause any issues? I really don't want to have to pull the expansion chamber and vertical mount off everytime I want to switch the tank. And yes, I have read both sides to the HPA debate, but put bluntly, CO2 is very readily available in my area and HPA isnt. HPA is available at the PB field we go to for organized games, but not many other places in NW OH. So if I want to play woodsball with my buddies without driving 2 hours, or tear apart my marker, I need to be able to use CO2. ------------- "When I grow up I want to marry a rich man and live in a condor next to the beach" -- My 7yr old daughter. |

If you buy a HPA tank there is no reason to use CO2 at all. I wouldn't bother using CO2 when you have a perfectly good HPA tank. Also everytime you switch between gases you have to chrono your marker. So if in the middle of the day you decide to switch gases you have to take your marker over to the chronograph. The expansion chamber should not interfere with the HPA, however if you are noticing pressure spikes you should take it off. -------------

I had planned on just getting a lower end HPA tank for use during the cold months since playing time is limited anyways. (30-35degrees is my threshhold of pain) I didnt really want to invest in a $170 in order to get an equivalent amount of shots that my 20oz CO2 tanks gets during warm months. Plus, I have already invested in the expansion chamber and larger CO2 tank. I know I should have looked into this more before buying, but I am relatively new to the sport. Anyways, thanks for the input regarding the X-chamber. If any one has differing opinions, let me know please. The last thing I want to do is damage something and have to spend more money replacing it. Judge, I am about 10 miles West of Lima. Lima is inbetween Dayton and Toledo off of I75. I know there are some fields towards both areas, but we usually make the trek to Splatterpark over by Columbus. They have HPA, and I am sure there are other places, closer, but I dont want to have to drive 30-45 minutes in order to fill up for a quick game in the woods. Lima...my home town. I appreciate your questions because I am considering the same issues with HPA and CO2. Just a quick suggestion for your HPA refills...go to the dive shop in Lima and have them filled. It will probably cost about $3-$4. That is the cost in Columbus. I'm trying to decide if I want to add an expansion chamber to my A-5 or just jump to HPA. ... Is there a dive shop in Lima? Not exactly the Mecca of scuba.. LOL. Anyways, I have decided to put off buying an HPA since the field we are going to actually rents them for $10/day and that includes free air. Since I will probably only have to rent the HPA 3-4 times this year, it is still more cost effective than buying the cheapest tank right now. No in fact i have never been to splatter park lol. I usually go to friends fields or fields closer than splatterpark if I am just playing to play. Yeah, not the diving mecca...but if you like to see carp and maybe a bass then Lima works. I hear you loud and clear about the renting thing...makes sense. If you decide to try to find a dive shop in Lima give me a shout. A buddy of mine lives in the Shawnee School Dist. and is a diver. He'd know where the shop is and I could get the address for you. Not to add more things to consider regarding HPA, but if you can find a used scuba tank you can get an adapter off ebay for about $45 and refill your tank. That is what I will probably do since I play alot of woodsball on private property. As far as the Big Game...I'm planning on going.
