Is there anything cool/interesting about your home town? What is it?
Mine is Wharton, NJ. Its a really old (1800's) miner town that turned residential around the beginning of the 20'th century. Only interesting things are:
Picatinny Rail was developed in it kinda(In Picatinny Arsenal, which is a Military base and not really listed as being in any town. But is across the road from my town and the kids from it go to my school.) Cindie Laupers "Time After Time" was filmed in it(because of some roadside gaspumps that were illegal or something) and part of it is in my friends house) Juicy Juice is made here and some parts sometime smell like it when large quantities are spilled. Also includes huge warehouse. Mineshafts cave in every few years. Kirk Alyn was born in Wharton (The first Superman before Christopher Reeves) An Episode of Future Weapons shows some of Wharton (they're driving to Pictinny accually).

I was born in Atlanta, but I have lived here for most of my life.
The area I live in was recently changed to the name St. Johns and is no longer an area of Jacksonville if memory serves me correctly.
When I want to have fun I go to St. Augustine which is the Nations Oldest City and has several well known haunted buildings.
There has been episodes of the show on Sci Fi Ghost Hunters filmed in the area.
Tim Tebow played High School football at my local High School, though He was home schooled.

Tavares, Florida:
Was founded by Alexander St. Clair-Abrams. After fighting in the Civil War, he moved to New York and became the foreign affairs editor for the New York Herald, becoming famous for his coverage of the Franco-Prussian war. Eventually moved to Atlanta but did not do well, so he came to Florida to work for a railway system he owned. Founded the city of Tavares in hope that the state would choose it as a new capitol.
It was never chosen.

Crown Point Indiana. A city about 35 min from downtown Chicago with about 22,000 people living there now.
On March 3, 1934, Crown Point etched its name forever in the history
books as the infamous bank robber and FBI "Public Enemy #1" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Dillinger" title="John Dillinger - John Dillinger
escaped from the "escape-proof" (as it was dubbed by local authorities
at the time) Lake County Jail which was guarded by many police and
national guardsmen. Dillinger apparently escaped using a hand-carved
wooden gun blackened with shoe polish, although this was disputed by
some witnesses. Dillinger further embarrassed the city, as well as
then-42-year-old Sheriff Lillian Holley, by driving off in her brand
new V-8 Ford. The press augmented her chagrin with such headlines as:
"Slim woman, mother of twins, controlled Dillinger as sheriff."
Incensed, Holley declared at the time, "If I ever see John Dillinger
again, I'll shoot him dead with my own gun. Don't blame anyone else for
this escape. Blame me. I have no political career ahead of me and I
don't care." This embarassing episode left Crown Point with a blemish
that to this day has yet to be removed. Furthermore, Sheriff Holley
made certain the Dillinger name would have no standing in Crown Point
up until her death in 1994 at 102. Due mainly to her efforts, there is
no mention of the "Great Escape" to be found anywhere in the city, save
for a brief mention on a National Register of Historic Places plaque
outside the old Sheriff's house.
Because Crown Point had no waiting period for marriage licenses, the
city became a popular place to get married and became known as the Marriage Mill. Many famous people came to Crown Point to be wed including http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Mix" title="Tom Mix - Tom Mix , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudolph_Valentino" title="Rudolph Valentino - Rudolph Valentino , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassius_Clay" title="Cassius Clay - Cassius Clay , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackson_5" title="Jackson 5 - Jackson 5 patriarch http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Jackson" title="Joseph Jackson - Joseph Jackson and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Reagan" title="Ronald Reagan - Ronald Reagan

Glasgow Scotland
Aside from being the murder capital of western Europe it's not such a bad place, Good people (for the most part) and a good nightlife. It has become known as one of the harder cities in Britain people from England tend to think you're a bit of a nutter when you tell them you're from Glasgow However I love it here and everyone I know is proud to be from here.
Used to be a major shipping route for Victorian Britain and the main point for shipbuilding and the like but now the shipyards have closed and its just another big city. A few scenes from trainspotting were filmed pretty much where I live like when the shoot the dog in the arse with the air rifle.

Somerset, PA.
It was in the news a few years ago. Shanksville was where the fourth plane crashed on 9/11.
The next summer, we had the "9 for 9" frenzy when nine miners got trapped underground and subsequently rescued.
Somerset, PA and the surrounding area is notable for a lot of colonial history. The Whiskey Rebellion happened here, and George Washington passed through here as a soldier in the French & Indian War.

Charleston, WV
It's the largest city (metropolitan population of over 300,000 people) as well as the capitol city of West Virginia. First established by Col George Clendenin as 'Fort Lee' at the confluence of the Elk and Kanawha Rivers, it eventually became a major salt production center, the largest in the US until after the Civil War. The first brine wells in the US were sunk there in the late 1700's and the first natural gas well soon followed. The discovery of the abundant coal fields in the area were a result of the need for a fuel source for evaporating the brine into salt. The battle of Charleston (1862) was fought between 5,000 Confederate troops and a similar number of Federal troops which resulted in the confederate occupation of the city for the following 6 weeks. After that point, the Federal forces, realizing that Charleston was the sole inland salt-producing region of the south, returned with over 10,000 troops and occupied Charleston and the other salt-producing areas of the Kanawha valley and it's confluence with the Ohio essentially depriving the south of it's ability to provide salt for curing and preserving it's food which helped to disrupt the supply chain of the armies of the Confederacy as well as deprive the south's few industries the means to make gun-powder. Federal control of Charleston also ensured the needed coal to fuel the steel furnaces in Wheeling, WV and Pittsburgh, PA.
After the civil war, Charleston faded in importance due to the construction of the Erie canal and it's ability to provide salt to the west via the great lakes (until this time it was floated down the Kanawha on flat-boats and then up or down the Ohio river) It wasn't until the outbreak of WWI that Charleston would become important yet again in the matters of industry. The need for chlorine and caustic acid for use in both chemical and conventional warheads. Continued manufacturing and chemical growth occurred with the outbreak of WWII. The railroad system in place for delivery of salt, coal, and chemicals as well as the now navigable Kanawha River made it the ideal place to build the largest synthetic rubber plant in the nation at that time. Several munitions and weapons factories again located to the region due to the close resources and transportation network. In the 1940's after the war, Charleston saw even more economic development due to Eisenhower's decision to join interstates 77, 79, and 64 in the city's center. The building of Kanawha (now Yeager) Airport also brought focus to the town as it was one of the first local airports built for general and commercial aviation outside of the major metropolitan areas.

| My junior and senior year I played in the Windber Rotary basketball tournament. My coach is originally from Windber. My girlfriend's aunt, uncle, and cousins live in Somerset. If you're ever up for a search, check the memorial wall for a "Lakeview Basketball" beanie. I put it on there last year when we visited. |
Cool, next time I'm up there, I'll search for it...pics if I find it.

I forget which boat company, but its the boat that is small and fast. Anyways, they originated in my town, Marysville Michigan, and were originally built for running alcohol from Canada to Michigan.

Not true, you guys have hot chicks that work at the drive-through coffee stand in that one shopping area. Have no idea what it's called. My buddy was in charge of your Maple Valley Police Explorer thing even in to his 20's.
Sammamish Washington/Seattl. Ted Bundy abducted two girls from the State Park on Lake Sammamish that I hung out at when I was younger. The girl who won that TV Show The Swan was from Sammamish. That's about all that I can think of really for Sammamish.
As for seattle. Well, tons of crap. Obviously Sleepless in Seattle was filmed here. Again, Ted Bundy was around as his first wave of killings were in Washington. He attended the same University as I, although it was called University of Puget Sound at the time. Space Needle is popular, Pike Place Market is widely visited. The boat The Northwestern from Deadliest Catch calls Seattle's port home. WAYY to much stuff for me to list.

I love that whole state. Did you guys happen to hear about the stuff going on in Skykomish where they have to dig up all the contaminated dirt from when trains used to refuel there? Well my uncles company was hired to move all of the buildings/houses out of the way. Anyways, its an absolutely beautiful state, I'd like to live there.
