That really sounds like an empty/nearly empty tank.

When it fires the 3-5 shots are they complete cycles that launch paintballs?

When was the last time you oiled your gun?

The only time I've ever needed to re-cock my A-5 during a game was after a lot of (like stupid-hopper-emptying-showing-off) firing in Response mode on the old original Egrip shooting around 15-17bps.  Every once and awhile, the rear bolt wouldn't re-seat (for lack of better terminology).  But nothing like what you're suggesting.

Have you checked the condition of/replaced your O rings?

Open it up and check orings, check the trigger sear, check the rear bolt, and after oil your marker. Also check the little piece of orange rubber that goes facing the barrel and not the other way around. The 2 legs should be facing the barrel.

I'm having this same problem. I took my marker apart, and paint was chopping to the point that it got into the internals, like the valve. I cleaned it all off and the o-rings looked fine, but that still didn't fix the problem.

I might just have to send it back to tippmann, but I really don't want to cause I want to sell it and I'd like the greatest net gain possible to fund my new marker project

Your rear drive spring is too tight.

Have you recently installed a new stock?

Get a Spring Kit and replace the spring, or clip the current one.

(NOTE do not get a trinity kit..  they don't work)
