...With a shotty...

A minute or two ago, I hear a resounding "boom" echo in the distance. It's 9:00 p.m. here. A second or so later, I hear clinking against my tin roof. I thought, "Nah..." Sure enough, a 2nd boom, and a second later, more clinking on my tin roof. I wonder what was being shot at. Sounds like it was shot into the air, as there's no way the pellets would hit my house otherwise.

I swear, sometimes it's too easy to tell I'm Texan...

I've had pellets rain down on me all the time...

... Duck season.

What will really piss you off is the one day your sitting in your yard, talking to a friend..... when all of the sudden, and completely out of the blue, the back window of your minivan just shatters...

... Upon investigation you find a rogue .22 bullet laying in the back corner of the van next to the spare tire.

and your nearest neighbor lives about a quarter mile away.

The luck of it was inspiring.

It's okay though. It's just the neighbors wagging their Texas peen. It's okay, mines bigger. :D

I gotta say, the pic of me holding the stiletto makes me look dead sexy.

But, of course, should the stiletto fail, I've got some good Rusky 7.62 plinkage (Moissan-Nagant).

Or some black powder goodness, alongside a .32 pocket-protector (not actually mine, due to age restrictions).

And of course, a very old .22 LR, "The Varminter."

And those are just the ones in my little garage convert! A few steps away, I've got access to: 3 more .22's (one semi, one lever, and one that resembles an AK-47), a .410 shotty and a .22 Magnum derringer.

We got's a lot o' dem dern coyotes out har.

I've been actually peppered pheasant hunting while blocking (most of group walks through strip of whatever cover and 2 or 3 people at the end to make sure none leak out). Once I hear the shots go off I usually face the other way, or put my head down.

Benji: Unfortunately, it's not. My grandad got that Moissan for $50 at a hardware store. Since then, he's refinished it (poorly) and ran a flat of armor piercing (read: steel) rounds through it. Back in the day, one of those AP rounds would punch through a rail tie. Now, the barrel is washed out, and the cost of getting it rebarreled is simply not cost-effective.

Hey, the firing pin works, and it puts bullets down range. It's a plinker by definition! Just a bit of an over-powered plinker. Heh.

I should also mention I have at my other home: A 8mm Mauser clone (Yugoslavian), a 28g. shotgun, a 20g shotgun, a .22 LR semi, and a .38 special snub-nose.

+1! And I hope I can still say that fifty years from now

As for Mosins... price has gone up slightly on them. Ammo is also not quite as plentiful as it was. I never really had much interest in grabbing one.
Had a slight interest in picking up a Yugo Mauser (M48, not the 24/47) but that quickly faded after grabbing a Smith Corona 03A3. Know which Yugo Mauser you have? How do you like it?

I got the "Collector Grade" M-48 8mm Mauser. It's just a very good conditioned M-48. Paid $325 for it, and don't regret it! Though I do suspect the stock has been refinished or even replaced. I don't really care though, I got it to shoot, not collect.

And shoot it does! It's a blast. The 8mm cartridges aren't anything to scoff at, and it's pretty accurate. I got a 6" grouping at 100 yards with iron sights, unadjusted. It cycles smoothly and reliably, and the added bayonet and sling are fun as well. My only gripe is the built-in cleaning rod stripped fairly quickly. I need to replace that or super glue it back into place, as I don't think I'm actually going to use it...

Well... the most plentiful out there right now are Yugo 59/66, with the integral NATO-threaded rifle-grenade launcher. Used to be able to get them for around $150, now they're closer to two bills.
I haven't shot mine yet, and I've had it for well over a year now. Tallen702 is refinishing the stock for me.

It's nice, and the one I got in particular was in excellent shape... but I don't like the grenade launcher in that it adds weight up front... the rifle does not feel well-balanced at all. Aside from it being front-heavy... the only other thing I could complain about with my particular rifle is that the tritium night sights were dead, but I guess that's to be expected given the rifle's age.

But... with some blanks, I can shoot the M1A2 rifle-grenade adapters I have (with tennis balls at the end, instead of a grenade... of course). Looking forward to finding an opportunity to try that.

Cool! Thanks for the review.
I missed the boat on the M48s. Not many left out there. Using my C&R I can get collector grade 24/47s for under $150... but I just can't bring myself to add yet another caliber to the ammo cache. The 03A3 was nice in that it can share with the Garand. Only oddballs I have are the SKS and a sporterized Enfield No1 MkIII that I'm hoping to restore to original config.

I guess it would be a bad time to post this (old) pic for Shorty. Tee Hee.

I'm just goofin' aruond. All my firearms are stored safely and unloaded. All ammo is kept in a cool, dry spot away from the firearms just in case. I enjoy guns. That's probably my biggest playing into of the stereotype. But, I am an Eagle Scout, and as such, trained to safely use the firearms, and I follow strict safety procedures when shooting. I am VERY responsible with my guns, despite what the dumb pics may show.

It's just my interest.

He was driving through rural Georgia with his hand on the center console, and a bullet came through the roof of the car right through the center of his hand. I wish I had the pictures to post.

you handle firearms quite well...never put your finger on the trigger unless you intend on shooting it

-------------

Posted By: DeTrevni
Date Posted: 19 February 2008 at 2:12am
I will call out my own error, though. On the "pistol pose," my finger is clearly within the trigger guard of the black powder, and resting on the trigger of the .32. This was due to me attempting to operate the laptop's webcam with my feet while holding the empty (double checked for safety) revolvers. The natural position is naturally finger within the guard. The hammer is in the "cocked" position so the cylinder would spin freely (in actuality, it is 1/2 cock to spin the cylinder, but one needs to completely cock the hammer in order to release it again). I accidentally clicked the "take picture" button while situating, and that was how the pic turned out. I said, "Eff it," and just used that pic.

So to those that are unaware: Fingers away from the triggers while not shooting.

If you have any idea how to shoot and/or aren't a wuss, probably just fine.
I've never been bothered by the recoil from ANY gun I've shot, and that's quite a few. My dad could arm a small militia if necessary, let's just put it that way. He used to sell guns, so he has a rather decent collection.

It's all about holding the gun tight enough to your shoulder. And not being a puss.

I'm 'bout tempted to. Situate all the guns on the ground, tie a string to the triggers, and give it a good yank!
